Season 37 F1 Full Grand Prix – Round 1 –  Kyalami
For the opening race of Season 37 we go back to where GPL all began.
Kyalami in South Africa hosted the opening round of the 1967 Grand Prix season – won by Pedro Rodriguez in a Cooper Maserati.

This season we are experimenting with some Grand Prix length races which we estimate should take 90 mins to complete.
This change to our normal format has required some changes to our rules and etiquette, so please read everything carefully to ensure that you understand.

Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 05-07-2020
Time = 20:30 UK time (21:00 GMT) RACE WILL START AT APPROX 21:00 UK LOCAL TIME
Track = Kyalami – Papyrus original.
Race length = 63 Laps (90 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Password: see above
Replay = https://www.sendspace.com/file/ttwofp

Papyrus Kyalami circuit is being used

You do need to ensure that you have the pit wall in place.
The standard Papyrus track has a pit wall but there are patches available that remove it.
The absence of a pit wall will not stop you from joining the race
but anybody seen by the moderators miraculously driving through the pit wall on the server replay will risk disqualification.
Normally this makes little difference to the racing, but with the possibility of pitstops in this race the barrier could be very important

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND BE SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.

QUALIFYING
During qualifying drivers are expected to drive back to the pits after each qualifying run. It is not permissible to return to the pits using the "Esc" key. If a driver crashes his car in qualifying and cannot return to the pits safely under his own power, he must not participate in the remaining qualifying period. The driver will allocated the grid slot achieved at that point.
REFUELLING
On some tracks it may not be possible to complete the full race distance on one tank of fuel. To avoid having to drive conservatively in order to save fuel, it is recommended that drivers make use of the Pit Stop patch which allows refuelling. Details are on the UKGPL web site on the Game page under the rules section.

We are using Lee Bowden's pit stop patch V 1.0 available here
http://srmz.net/index.php?s=2f2b26bfa1b153fa8e44e9fc470d61a9&app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=28268

This patch allows cars to refuel in the pits to the same level as when they started the race and does NOT  allow for tyres to be changed.
 You do not have to make a pitstop and may choose to run the whole race by filling your tanks from the start.

For Season 37 we are promoting the use of TEAMSPEAK for those who wish to use it. Details can be found here
This allows drivers to speak to each other if they wish, IT IS NOT COMPULSORY.

Important!!!
RED FLAG RESTARTS
We hope that drivers will be cautious on Lap 1 and avoid any moves that might cause a crash.
However, because this is racing there might be an occasion where several cars are eliminated, or badly damaged, by an incident on lap 1 and we could be left with 4 cars that have a lonely 90 minute race ahead of them.
If the moderator decides that any such incident on Lap 1, has removed too many cars from the race, he is able to order a RESTART, and he will announce this on Teamspeak and then through GPL CHAT.
The server will be shut down and restarted. There will then be a SINGLE lap qualifying session to determine the grid placings. Drivers will be allowed a single outlap followed by ONE flying lap to set a grid time. After completing your flying lap please pull off the track and ESC to pits to keep the track clear.
A Restart will only be called ONCE for each race and will only apply to Lap 1 incidents. If there is a multi car incident on Lap 2 then tough luck!! These are long races and a certain amount of caution should be used.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Renato Jungle                       Ferrari
Fgubbels                              Brabham   ( I have no info on Frank's pace or rank so this car might be adjusted )
Daniel San                           Honda        ( well it just has to be the Honda doesn't it? But again this might be adjusted when we see how fast Daniel is )
Alain Maurice                        Honda

The intention is to promote close racing for the duration of the race and is based upon driver's previous performances within UKGPL.
The car allocation will be reviewed mid season and may be changed at the moderator's discretion.

That'll be a nice challenge! Honda is by far the worst challenge for a keyboarder due to its weight (even worse than BRM, that at least it has 6 gears). But let's see what is possible to do. At least finishing the races would be something cool. That's the spirit of this new format Wink

 Two bad points for me in the new rules, which are placed very close to the race, may have riders still unknown tomorrow.
 First point, returning to the pits during the qualy, this can cause a lot of problems for riders in the way of a quick lap!
 Second point, a big accident and provides another restart, bad point is, lap launched from pilot to pilot, this will take a long time ....... many pilots work on Monday, please reflect that.

Understood, but the rationale is to be realistic as possible. In real racing if a car breaks down out on the circuit, the qualifying is over for that driver.
I agree this means there is extra danger with drivers returning to the pits but it is expected that drivers will be extra careful to compensate.

Agreed, we only expect to have a restart in exceptional circumstances and this would only be for a first lap incident. I very much hope that drivers will be sensible and a restart will never be needed.

Thanks for replying to Jonny 's questions Phil.

Just to confirm that we are trying to re create the true GP races.

Drivers need to protect their cars and should not risk a Hari-Kiri qualifying lap at 150% that ends in the barrier and flames.

We hope that drivers on their "out lap" or an "in lap" will watch the mirrors and stay off the racing line to allow cars on a hot lap a clear track. Make it clear by your speed and track position that you can be passed safely.

 Just like real life racing, it will be a case of finding yourself some space to run your fast qualifying laps.

Please remember that if you are on a fast qualifying lap and you catch a car that is doing his best effort at a qualifying lap, he might be slower than you!. But that slower driver is still entitled to complete his lap and does not have to move out of the way if he is on a genuine qualifying lap.

The race is approximately 90 minutes duration, so grid position is maybe not so important as for a shorter race. A fast driver who starts at the back of the grid and waits until the pack has spread out will probably be at the front within 30 laps......and that is only half distance!!!

 ....anyway i want to leave a suggestion: to reflect.
In need of restarting the race on account of a big one: Upon returning to the server with 5 minutes of qualy, drivers enter the server in order of calling the grid of the previous race, so no driver can enter the track before the start race, this will maintain the entry order positions and maintain the original starting grid.

Joao I agree this is the way to handle, but it only works if you have a disciplined bunch of drivers but costs a lot of time.

It also would work if you all have TS and listen to the moderator - so not possible.

Easy to say do your lap and ok - costs 5 min of concentration - for a long race
