Season 37 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 1 – Oakes Field, Nassau
The first race in the 1955 Grand Prix series sees us taking a boat across the Atlantic Ocean to Nassau in the Bahamas. The first Nassau Trophy Road Races meeting for Sports Cars was held in 1954 on the Windsor Field Course. For 1957, the meeting was moved to another airfield location, the 5 mile Oakes Course, which was closer to the main population areas on the island. The new course, despite being quite bumpy in places, was relatively well-received, though there were a number of close shaves near the pits as it was too close to the racing line. To combat this, the race direction of the track was changed to clockwise in 1958. The circuit was also shortened to 4.5 miles by cutting out the original Blackbeard's Bend and Ecky's Twist, whilst a new left-right-left corner combination was built to connect the Sassoon Straight and Bethell's Pass, cutting out the tight hairpin which had previously taken the cars off the runway. Due to much needed track repairs and the lack of additional funding by the Bahamian government, as well as competition from more races running in December, the event was discontinued after the 1966 meeting. It is the clockwise 4.5 mile Oakes Course that we will be using for tonight's race. Please read the championship specific rules on the championship standings page.

Thank you Clive. I'm not really quick enough but given that I won the Privateers division last season I had to move up. I'll do my best to snatch the Championship off you but somehow I don't think I'm the person you should be worrying about LOL I'm saying nowt! The beauty of the 55mod is that it is difficult enough such that even people who think that they may know what they are doing can find themselves in bother!

Looking forward to the 55 season and resuming hostilities in these cars. I have to agree with you Clive, just when you think that you have tamed these cars they find a way to suck you in, and then spit you out into the scenery!!! .......................but I guess that is what makes them so compelling

My car keeps looking for the Oaks, but keeps on finding the weeds! This track was given the wrong name.

I can scarcely believe that you would try that on the first lap, Jonny. It's a 'deja vu all over again' of the first race last season when Covisi did the same to me at Zolder.

Great race with Dulima and Bastian. I had a good chance of 3rd place but I made one mistake too many and Dulima and Bastian passed me. A very close race so this is going to be an interesting season.
Sorry about the squeeze at T1 on L1 Fulvio. When Martin bogged down on the line I had to pass him on the left because I couldn't be sure who was on my right. Thankfully I got back on the track before the bridge, I stayed as tight left as I could but I think it was a bit tight!

I've reviewed my shunt with Jonny and yes, I did see him coming but thought it was largely a bluff. Pretty racey for Lap01. I point you all...and not for the first time, I believe...to this thread... http://forums.speedgeezers.net/index.php?showtopic=39796...and in particular, note post #3 and the notation regarding a certain MGA. In keeping with my policy of safe driving of the 1955's, I'm considering my shunt today as very serious with almost certainly injuries requiring hospitalization if not a trip to the morgue. Accordingly, I'm standing down from UK GP55 events not returning til round #6 at Silverstone as a simulation of recovering from injury.

More pedal trouble, with a scattering of engine parts left behind, to grow amongst the weeds. Up until then, a lively setup meant every new lap was a new adventure. It was all hanging together nicely until mid-field, mid-race, where one bad gearchange too many lightened the crankshaft. A tragic end for metal lovers. Stayed to watch a modern day Fangio head the field, while others explored it. Then, a great Connaught duel - they don't make cars like that anymore.

Doni, I always try to have a safe lap1 and give space to whoever is ahead, in this race a big mistake in the setup left me with the 1st gear very long, Gordini's start is something dangerous, useless, and it was a shame, he just didn't get out of the place, it went slowly slowly. Logically, it took me out of my usual way and unfortunately the nervousness made me have stupid aggression, within my logic. Therefore, any and every gentleman pilot manual, I am always a defender of the idea, but unfortunately as a simulator that is, in the GPL we can do stupid things that victimized real people in the 50s. But in the simulation of a time to recover the injuries, I want to make a defense, was the touch enough to eject your car as it happened, or was it a common mistake of the GPL contact limitations? Is this doctor who simulated an appointment a local doctor? Were there good doctors in Nassau? Your doctor in Canada may have another verdict! Let us pray !!! I am simulating an amateur driver, so without the coldness of the official drivers of the time, I am simulating a sentimental driver, who may not have the motivation to run until the return of the affected driver. I look forward to your fast improvement Doni !!!
