Season 37 F1 Full Grand Prix – Round 2 –  Buenos Aires

A new version of an old track. Created by Ginetto for the launch of the 1955 mod, Buenos Aires hosted the first round of the 1955 grand prix. Inevitably the race was won by Juan Mauel Fangio

This season we are experimenting with some Grand Prix length races which we estimate should take 90 mins to complete.
This change to our normal format has required some changes to our rules and etiquette, so please read everything carefully to ensure that you understand.

Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 19-07-2020
Time = 20:30 UK time (21:00 GMT) RACE WILL START AT APPROX 21:00 UK LOCAL TIME
Track =Buenos Aires http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=11589
Race length = 57 Laps (90 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Pro
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Password: see above
Replay = https://www.sendspace.com/file/avqw9m

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND BE SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.

QUALIFYING
During qualifying drivers are expected to drive back to the pits after each qualifying run. It is not permissible to return to the pits using the "Esc" key. If a driver crashes his car in qualifying and cannot return to the pits safely under his own power, he must not participate in the remaining qualifying period. The driver will allocated the grid slot achieved at that point.
REFUELLING
On some tracks it may not be possible to complete the full race distance on one tank of fuel. To avoid having to drive conservatively in order to save fuel, it is recommended that drivers make use of the Pit Stop patch which allows refuelling. Details are on the UKGPL web site on the Game page under the rules section.

We are using Lee Bowden's pit stop patch V 1.0 available here
http://srmz.net/index.php?s=2f2b26bfa1b153fa8e44e9fc470d61a9&app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=28268

This patch allows cars to refuel in the pits to the same level as when they started the race and does NOT allow for tyres to be changed.
 You do not have to make a pitstop and may choose to run the whole race by filling your tanks from the start.

For Season 37 we are promoting the use of TEAMSPEAK for those who wish to use it. Details can be found here
This allows drivers to speak to each other if they wish, IT IS NOT COMPULSORY.

Important!!!
RED FLAG RESTARTS
We hope that drivers will be cautious on Lap 1 and avoid any moves that might cause a crash.
However, because this is racing there might be an occasion where several cars are eliminated, or badly damaged, by an incident on lap 1 and we could be left with 4 cars that have a lonely 90 minute race ahead of them.
If the moderator decides that any such incident on Lap 1, has removed too many cars from the race, he is able to order a RESTART, and he will announce this on Teamspeak and then through GPL CHAT.
The server will be shut down and restarted. There will then be a SINGLE lap qualifying session to determine the grid placings. Drivers will be allowed a single outlap followed by ONE flying lap to set a grid time. After completing your flying lap please pull off the track and ESC to pits to keep the track clear.
A Restart will only be called ONCE for each race and will only apply to Lap 1 incidents. If there is a multi car incident on Lap 2 then tough luck!! These are long races and a certain amount of caution should be used.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Renato Jungle                       Ferrari
Fgubbels                              BRM   ( I see that Frederic has a GPLRANK of -70?!! so his car has been changed )
Daniel San                           Honda        ( well it just has to be the Honda doesn't it? But again this might be adjusted when we see how fast Daniel is )
Alain Maurice                        Honda

The intention is to promote close racing for the duration of the race and is based upon driver's previous performances within UKGPL.
The car allocation will be reviewed mid season and may be changed at the moderator's discretion.

No, there was a typo in the race announcement which has been corrected. No shift Rs at any time.

Also you must drive back to the pits in qualifying, don't use ESC key.

Hi all,

What does the following sentence mean?

"You are a first reserved in combined?"

I will use BRM, but I guess that I need to make a world record to have the pole position. I understand that close racing is good for fun, however I wonder if a BRM driver will be able to win this championship even if his ranking is -90.

We have 19 drivers registered so the reserve status is irrelevant.

However if we had 20+ drivers registered (but not enough to warrant a second server) then there is a risk that more than 19 drivers would turn up to race. If this happened the reserve drivers would be expected to leave the server and let the full time drivers race. It would be unfair to deny a full time driver the chance of winning the championship because the race server was full. It is unlikely a reserve driver (who did not attend 75% of the races) would be a championship contender.

If we had 30 drivers registered we would have to consider having 2 servers  and 2 championships.

I will make everyone a Full Time driver to avoid any confusion. Any driver joining the championship during the season would then be a reserve driver.

Hi Fred,
don't be pessimistic, the car choice is made to get a good leveled grid,
I assure you that a BRM driver of your class is able to win races ( http://freeleo.hu/weekly/index.php?p:events/season/GELI2020-1/ )

Thanks for your replies. I'll do my best with the BRM. No worries. At this point my objective is to have fun and retrieve feelings of simracing. See you tonight.

Thank you for your comments guys, and for Fred's acceptance of the BRM.

As David has said, the intention is to have close racing ( which is what makes GPL fun ) and to try and avoid the situation where the cars are totally spaced at 50% race distance with the aliens cruising to the podium places.
I will review the cars after 5 races and if I feel that the results are looking one sided either at the top of the table, or at the bottom of the table, drivers might find themselves with a faster ( or a slower ) car for the final 5 races. Don't give up yet......things might change  Roll Eyes

From my many years ( and far too many races!! ) in GPL it seems that the really fast drivers can win in a shopping trolley with only 3 wheels........but we don't have one of those in the pits  Wink Unless of course, someone wants to create the necessary graphics and physics software???
