Season 37 F1 Full Grand Prix – Round 3 –  Mosport

A Papyrus original track and home of the Canadian GP for many years.

This season we are experimenting with some Grand Prix length races which we estimate should take 90 mins to complete.
This change to our normal format has required some changes to our rules and etiquette, so please read everything carefully to ensure that you understand.

Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 30-08-2020
Time = 20:30 UK time (21:00 GMT) RACE WILL START AT APPROX 21:00 UK LOCAL TIME
Track =Mosport      Papyrus Original
Race length = 62 Laps (90 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Pro
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Password: see above
Replay = https://www.sendspace.com/file/gqoe0c

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND BE SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.

QUALIFYING
During qualifying drivers are expected to drive back to the pits after each qualifying run. It is not permissible to return to the pits using the "Esc" key. If a driver crashes his car in qualifying and cannot return to the pits safely under his own power, he must not participate in the remaining qualifying period. The driver will allocated the grid slot achieved at that point.
REFUELLING
On some tracks it may not be possible to complete the full race distance on one tank of fuel. To avoid having to drive conservatively in order to save fuel, it is recommended that drivers make use of the Pit Stop patch which allows refuelling. Details are on the UKGPL web site on the Game page under the rules section.

We are using Lee Bowden's pit stop patch V 1.0 available here
http://srmz.net/index.php?s=2f2b26bfa1b153fa8e44e9fc470d61a9&app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=28268

This patch allows cars to refuel in the pits to the same level as when they started the race and does NOT allow for tyres to be changed.
 You do not have to make a pitstop and may choose to run the whole race by filling your tanks from the start.

For Season 37 we are promoting the use of TEAMSPEAK for those who wish to use it. Details can be found here
This allows drivers to speak to each other if they wish, IT IS NOT COMPULSORY.

Important!!!
RED FLAG RESTARTS
We hope that drivers will be cautious on Lap 1 and avoid any moves that might cause a crash.
However, because this is racing there might be an occasion where several cars are eliminated, or badly damaged, by an incident on lap 1 and we could be left with 4 cars that have a lonely 90 minute race ahead of them.
If the moderator decides that any such incident on Lap 1, has removed too many cars from the race, he is able to order a RESTART, and he will announce this on Teamspeak and then through GPL CHAT.
The server will be shut down and restarted. There will then be a SINGLE lap qualifying session to determine the grid placings. Drivers will be allowed a single outlap followed by ONE flying lap to set a grid time. After completing your flying lap please pull off the track and ESC to pits to keep the track clear.
A Restart will only be called ONCE for each race and will only apply to Lap 1 incidents. If there is a multi car incident on Lap 2 then tough luck!! These are long races and a certain amount of caution should be used.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Daniel San                           Honda        ( well it just has to be the Honda doesn't it? But again this might be adjusted when we see how fast Daniel is )
Alain Maurice                        Honda
Iestyn                                  Cooper

Hello, Clive, Dave...

I withdrew my original application to this series when I became aware that the events would be of a race distance outside my endurance.  I opted for the 'Sprint Series' instead.

But no probs Doni , I shall remove your name from the list.

really one of the worst races I've ever had.
   Initially, I arrived with 10 minutes to finish qualifying and that did not let me make a good qualification, I only did 1 good lap of the 5 a attempts, and can put in 4 place ( uffffff)
    In the race I had a cheek with cheek with gubels in turn after jump, and loose 3 places..... which was very damaged, and from that moment, it was error after error, I committed many stupid things, I left out Raoni Frizzo, for my bad entry to the track and I deserve a penalty. definitely a disaster for me, and I apologize if it bothered or caused that because of me, someone other than frizzo, lost to finish this race.
   I just want to highlight the good work of Tristan and Uli, for knowing how to defend their positions, for the rest, nothing to talk about me.
   And to finish my worst role, I went out with a 35-lap set-up, and I didn't set it to 64 laps  and I had to go into the pits, to lose even more positions, but anyway, more races will come.

  P.S. Very good job Jonnie, you are coming strong and also congratulations to Andy for driving very concentrated.
   See you next time

Good morning all  Wink

Grats Andy, Johnny et Fred  Smiley

Difficult race for me too.
Back from vacation and no training before qualifying, the evening promised to be difficult.
Objective, finish the race, successful objective Smiley
But good for mistakes, the Honda is very, very solid.
At 45 laps from the end, my car following an exit from the track with the rear axle which behaves strangely.
In time to get used to it, I will find myself last.
Soon the leaders will pass me as well as all the other pilots.
No big deal, because as already said above, I finished the race (with still too much gasoline, 21 laps)  Huh
Well done everyone, thank you to the admins and see you soon

This was all a surprise to me. Most surprising of all was finding myself on pole.
Mr. Jungle let me go first into T1, then he went wide and off in T3. I think he would have been a big threat in the race. Fred followed me in his BRM until Jonny took over around lap10. Then he filled my mirrors and thoughts for 50 laps. Jonny is a very gentlemanly driver and I felt safe with him so close behind. I had a few bad moments, but he did not try to force a pass on a half chance. I knew that if I took the inside line on the slower corners, he could not pass my Ferrari in his Cooper. And so we continued for over an hour, with Fred not far behind. Very impressive to drive like that for so long.

This was my first race with my new 32" 4K monitor and new computer. I had 60 fps throughout at 3840x2160, which helped me a lot. In setting up my wheel this week, I read that many people use 390 degrees and 7:1 ratio, so I used that (after 20 years with 270 and 15:1). The steering input is similar, but it feels like I can correct errors more easily. I had a few moments in this race that perhaps I would not have recovered from using my old rig last week. So with this result I feel that my new pc and monitor have paid for themselves already.
Thanks to all and thanks to the admin.

Grats to Andy and the podium places, plus all who finished of course  Wink I was watching the times on Prib and it was a very close race for almost the whole race   thumbup1 some great driving there guys  I Am Not Worthy

I would like to say that the Cooper is not a good car for Mosport, but Jonny has destroyed that excuse!!! lol
Just Like Maurice, my plan was to finish and I knew that my Cooper needed about 3-4 laps to get the tyres nicely warmed through, so I was not pushing at the start and sat back a little from the cars ahead, so that I could avoid any incidents. But that allowed cars behind to close up and there was contact.  Undecided

I did suffer from some damage when I got a nudge into Moss, which spun me 180 and into the armco  Undecided I had to wait until almost the whole grid drove past before I could recover. I was not too bothered as there was still 60+laps to run and plenty of time to chase down the field. I worked my way up to somewhere around 7th place over the next 30 laps....but,
After that impact I had serious troubles with my rear tyres, I could lap at 1:23, but if I pushed just 5% too hard then the tyre temps went crazy and the car lost all rear end grip. I had several spins, or half spins, when I exceeded the traction limits.  Eventually things got a little wild on the exit of Moss and I ended up stuck in the bushes with 3 wheels.
The longest possible walk back to the pits, that was bad planning#!!!

Very solid race from Andy and Jonny. Congratulations for your race!

BRM or brrrrr... Close racing with BRM. You must be kidding in Mosport. Well the challenge could have been OK considering the qualifications. Only at 0.06 s from the pole. I gave all I could to have this gap, but that was vain.

I started 3rd and became 2nd when jungle went large in a corner. Then I gave what I could to avoid the misery of the corner after the straight bump. With full tank, it is hard time every lap. Step by step Enrique was closing the gap and then he tried the exterior in the bump corner. I could only pray not to ruin my race because there is no way for the BRM to escape from the line. Unfortunately, there was and he went wide. There was nothing I could do, but with a bit more patience he could have taken me later in the race. Especially, because later I did one mistake in this bloody corner and went wide. That was when Jonny passed me. I took the rest of the race just to try to maintain or reduced the gap. Each time I was coming close to the 2 battling together, there was a lag and I had to compromise at the hairpin corner not to crash. I lost some seconds at least twice because of this lag, which I do not understand, but anyway, I could not have passed these 2, because I'm driving a BRRRR and also because this track is not made for overpassing at all.

The 2 in front were close racing the entire race, which is impressive as there was no collision between them. So just for that you have my applause.  clap

  Mosport has a relationship of love and hate with Cooper, you can be fast in the lap time, but you cannot threaten any car on the straight, because it is impossible to accelerate more than any other GPL car.
  So I only got positions by mistakes, one by one, Jungle, Raoni, Farina and Frederic.
  When I touched Andrew, the only thing that could happen is his mistake, but in two small moments of error it was not enough to do without taking a risk, it's a long run, and Andrew was perfect until the end, a deserved victory! !!!
