Tough long race that.

Only qualied 12th despite getting a 1:54.7 Shocked, every other bugger was getting in the 1:51's to 1:53's  :'(  No matter what i tried i couldnt get any quicker times as when i got one part dead right i made an error elsewhere on the lap Roll Eyes

Race start went reasonably okay except we all seemed strung out crossing the line and i seemed to be 2-3 secs down by the craner curves Sad and these fairly even matched cars its hard to make up that deficit unless others make errors.
Anyway, found myself upto 9th place and thats where i stayed for an age, battling the ever present Adam Parle who seemed to be continually harrassing my ass and we swapped places more than once. Great racing teamie  Cool That was a big scary moment when you lost it big time and i was flat out in 4th trying to guess which way your spinning car was going to end up ! Shocked...the downside was it allowed that rascal Shark to close right up where he continued to annoy me like a mosquito for 3 or 4 laps before i got out of shape under braking at the chicane and he waltzed away nicking my place Embarrassed
Brought it home 10th in the end, just couldnt seem to close the gap on the front boys at all. So not a job well done Sad
Great pace up front guys  Cool

With GTR2 I cannot get into GTL anymore, it feels so dull. During this race I was also pushing hard, but it felt like siteseeing

I found coming back to GTL after so much GTR2 was really enjoyable. I'd done no practice at all beforehand but after a small setup change I felt really comfortable in the car and really enjoyed the feeling of being able to take liberties with the car I just wouldn't get away with in a modern GT car, sliding into and out of corners and being able to use a wider choice of lines with the slower cars.

Was really interesting having GTL PD monitor running on my other computer's monitor. It showed my tyres at the end were only 7% worn which makes sense with me feeling in any GTL race I've ever done that the tyres feel exactly the same at the end as the start practically. Where others complain of wear, I don't get it, just my driving style I guess.

I'm really not getting to grips with how to set these cars up. I've tried radically different things to find something that works and nothing does. I'm unable to stop wheels locking under brakes no matter what i do with brake balance and pressure, I just don't get it.

I had GTL PD up too (though I really need to find a way to mount my laptop behind my wheel because glancing down to the left to read it was rather distracting) and although tyre wear wasn't bad the tyres were overpressure, especially the left rear, and it was definitely having an effect on the handling.

The Healey has very iffy brakes and you really can't use more than about 60% brake pressure for more than a fraction of a second. I've modified the controller settings in my .PLR file to give finer control which helps a bit but basically you have to pump those suckers, you can't use them with a single smooth application like you would in a modern car.

Having said that the Healey is quite happy to leave massive smoke trails everywhere with no obvious ill effects. Grin Grin Grin

Yea great racing. Sorry if the pace lap was too quick - I really wasn't sure how fast to go as that was the 1st (and probably last!) time I had to lead the pack around! Smiley

Had great dicing with Ruskus and Pero for the whole race. I also had the PD monitor going (coz have been having trouble with my throttle), and noticed after about 12 laps that my tyre temps were really low (fronts about 50; rears about 65) which is way lower than the 6 laps of qualy I did so realised I wasnt pushing enough but I was worried about ditching it. Got my confidence back about half way through and started catching up on the 2 spots I lost through being too conservative. Was praying for another lap or two as I think I had the run on Ruskus at the end as his tyres faded and mine were still coming up to temperature. So, note to self; push from lap one - especially against these fast buggers Wink

See you next time!
(and sorry once again to Pero for skidding into you Sad    )

Ah, apparently the wear units in GTL PD monitor, as well as the other PD monitors I've found out are in fact magic Simbin units, it's not a percentage.

We don't know what the max value is, but when it reaches 30 the pit crew call you in for worn tyres.

I just can't seem to get my pc set up right at all.
Just when i was getting between 50 & 60 fps, i installed a new soundcard, and everything has gone pete tong - only gettin 30 fps max at Donnington, so had no chance to correct any small mistakes, which then lead to big ones.

I will have to spend all day tommorrow setting up again!

But a good race by all - grats to all who finished.

What happened to you Matt - disco'd at start?

afaik the magic number is 60 (it was stated in a GTR MoTeC setup guide I had ages ago, but that was probably a guess by the author!).

Does the PD monitor have a real-time data logging function?  if it logs the values for tyer wear you could do a burn-out and see what the wear value is just before they blow up.  I might try that if I get bored one evening Cheesy

No logging no, but I thought of that already. Tried it once and blew the engine before the tyres went. Then I was too tired to try again.  Grin
