Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 197s

This incident occurred as a result of contact between Lorenzo and Fabri further up the cue of traffic on lap 1 (Quickly redressed by Lorenzo on the following straight) which set in motion a cascade of smaller bumps and check-ups back through the following train of cars in Lycee hairpin.

Looking at the replay and the cascade of contacts that followed I would normally be inclined to call a contact of this sort a racing incident.

The slow/crashed cars ahead WERE visible, and Syd DID change his line and slow to turn inside the near stationary cars.

Unfortunately the contacts to the cars outside of the corner resulted in Stefan being fired across Syd's nose just under a second before the incident happened.
This did provide time to brake, but Syd did not - although the replay also shows that he didn't accelerate more than he had already been and was still turning to avoid Stefan's car.

Even at these speeds it is very likely that the collision would have happened regardless of Syd's braking or not, and Stefan would have been fired nose first into the barriers instead of spun - but the lack of braking, even after initial contact, makes racing incident much harder to apply.

I have reduced the standard penalty from 3 places to 1 as I feel contact was inevitable in this case - however a penalty is appropriate as more could have been done to try and avoid it.

At least I'm doing T1 better since seeing how you do it in the video Smiley Still way to slow through Foch. I wish I could control slides like you did at Avenue Smiley

Don't worry about emulating that Syd - I can't remember where the setup is from but it clearly isn't suitable for Pau.
Not drifting quite so much should still be faster over race distance (Probably is fast over a flying lap if I don't crash though, Manteos will match/beat me without so much as a small skid probably Wink )

Half the reason I decided to go drifting was that by the middle of the 2nd lap it was clear my rear tires were aready over temp/pressure.
It's a huge amount of fun, although drifting a 911 on slicks is very hard work!

I spent a couple of hours trying to understand how to downshift without scratching the gearbox, but I was unsuccessful. I'll try to race but I bet that even this time my gearbox won't last more than 20 minutes. The worse thing is that I never managed to do more than 5 or 6 laps without smashing my car somewhere on a titanium coated hay bales, so I bet that gearbox won't be the main issue during the race.

This combo is simply murderous Grin

I might open a Porsche Parts business in Pau, think i will have a lot of customers for new bumpers, bonnets and gearboxes  Grin

Braking into T1 at full chat with other cars at the end of each lap will be an eye-opener  Shocked

Nice track to....sitting in a nearest bar watch cars passing by when you have finished your 3rd bottle of cheap red wine. Wink

main thing i hate on this track are the jutting concrete bales so you cant even use the track width or its an instant dnf if you hit one.

Lucky you  Wink

Miserable track....maybe ok if you have a rift but in single screen it's a joke. Highlight was dropping into a hole about 5 laps in, at least I didn't throw up  Hit with a wet fish

I had a bit of difficulty "finding the pace" in qualifying, but I still got the third position on grid.

The start was good, but I had stay behind the first two. Unfortunately at the Lycée hairpin there was an unfortunate contact between me and Lorenzo, which made us lose contact with the leaders, and probably caused a mess to those behind.
I had to control Lorenzo for some laps, until he had some problems and he retired.

From here on I simply controlled the race, being far from the leaders and having a lot of advantage on 4th. I cruised in total relaxation. Going so slowly I avoided all risks.
Matteo's retirement (gearbox problems) gave me the second position.

Probably this was the race where I pushed less  angel

Lap-times of Tim and Matteo were truly remarkable.

Congratulations to everyone who finished and Tim for the win!

That was embarrassing. I manged 8 laps before the leaders caught me up, I bailed so as to not cause any problems. If this doesn't get any easier I think I'll be AWOL for the rest of the season  Embarrassed

A tough round this one but a good result.  Smiley

Qualified quite well until with 2mins to go I got a tank slapper at t1 so missed last two laps of short qually. Shame as I dropped from 3rd to 5th I think in last minute.

Race start was good and clean up to the 3rd hairpin where a couple of cars caused a little clash but nothing major. But on the downhill final sector my car felt awful with cold fronts and this allowed Jos past me. I chased him hard for pretty much the entire race but unable to pass as he was always quicker in that last sector to pull a gap. He got a little respite mid race as that damn low kerb launched me and I lost about 4 seconds. But re closed and pressured him until the end. Finished 4th  Smiley

Stunning pace from Tim and Matteo around this track   Shocked

Exept from the chaos at the Lycee hairpin in the first lap I had a good race long battle with Maxime. Finally after many laps he made a slight mistake onto the s/f straight and I could overtake. That was solid and fair racing Maxime.

Kimi, what the hell were you doing mate? Out of control and smashing into the walls like you hadn't practiced this track. It caused another big crash into T1. Mistakes can be made here easily, but this looked just stupid to me..

Oh and congrats to the podium. Well done on this difficult track.

I still don't know how I did the qually lap - I ran a very understeering setup in qually to get better drive with a very tight diff, watching my gear changes through the final twisty section onto the start straight I think this is where a lot of the time came from. I was in 5th about 100 meters earlier than I ever could be on the race setup having the threaded the needle without lifting out of that last hairpin Shocked
It wasn't a very good setup to race with here though I decided, as it required crazy accuracy to go fast with. It was actually slower than the race one when driving carefully and was much harder to save if it wandered towards a wall....
The qually replay is almost boring to watch externally as there's none of the car movement visible in my race setup - I was almost driving as straight as Manteos does, which explains his pace normally Cool

Thanks to Manteos for managing to do the complete opposite of my warnings prior to the race start ( Tongue ) I managed to finish the 1st lap with a nice gap of about a second back to 2nd (I have to admit to laughing a bit as he sailed past me into the Hairpin Grin ).
Right up until he lunched his gearbox I was really being forced to concentrate though, as after respective errors between us we settled at about 3 seconds and then just stayed there with a bit of sea-sawing each lap until about 20-25 minutes in.
As you can't get to your clutch properly maybe try turning on autoclutch if that can work with a H-Shifter? It's not as good as doing it yourself but at least you can then rev match and keep the gearbox alive?

Well done to Fabs and Jos on the podium, and to all finishers - This round was the seasons 'Evil technical' track, having a legit 70's layout was just a bonus, so finishing here is good work. Especially given just how nasty the braking zone between T1 and T2 is (Fantastic when you do it right though  angel )

Thanks for taking part all and see you at Spa for the special next week - server is already up and I'll sort the announcement thread after work today.

It's true that on a flat 24" screen it was really a tough track..

@ Fabrizio : plz mate don't crash for fun into me like that (end of qualif) cause it's not so good for the wheel, then I believed I had put it straight back but actually on the grid I realised I was 360° left or right, thankfully the game told me ! Could have led to a mayhem on the starting grid. Plus it's quite immersive killer.  Wink

Starting went bad here : looks like my clutch wasn't well calibrated since last PC reboot so that I started to move very slightly as soon as I engaged 1st gear.. -> drivethrough penalty.

Sorry Picnic, Goldtop or Spanner (no idea as the nicknames don't match) for the little back-tap at T6 entry, was surprised. Thankfully it didn't have any consequences as you managed to control it well.

Someone let Stefan and me pass for no reason due to the bug of the track not counting the right driver positions and giving continous blue flag as soon as there was a car behind us. Or was it only at my end ??

Solid chase from Stefan who was putting a huge pressure on me as he was much faster, very clean pressure mate, it was very nice to be confident in your fair driving as usual. Then he got an opportunity when I made a mistake as he said yet, so that it was justice for him to pass me.

Sorry also Tudor Morris for that big crash at T1, you had managed to avoid Stefan''s perpandicular car but I couldn't see the things in time, only later than you and it was too late when I jumped on the brakes on that tough part of the circuit.

Congrats of course to the top drivers, amazing pace on such a track and special congrats to Jos for his beautiful podium ! thumbup1 clap

Edit : corrections.
