Hi All

1st race back after quite a few years away from sim racing

and 1st time driving the 55 mod, lots of fun and realise how rusty i am

I disco'd after a number of laps in race which was really annoying as was having a good race with two others

I had also disco'd in practice and qualifying

I checked my internet connection and had good ping (18ms) and up (35mb) and down speeds (9mb)

any suggestions on settings, patches or PC config i should check/change?

i see in results lots of others disco'd too. was that though choice due to crash or network like me?

any advice/help much appreciated

cheers

Peter

Grats to Clive ( looks like he has his mojo back) and Doni who drove a very steady race to 2nd spot.

I confess that taking the Gordini was a big gamble, but my token account was looking a little empty with so many fast tracks still to race. I also reasoned that Avus is always a track where there are multiple casualties and the Sudkerve always claims multiple victims. So, driving the Gordini and aiming for survival might cost me nothing, but might just score a few points.
I actually did some offline practice to sort out the gears and brakes, but the big hole in the Gordini's performance is the start!! With only 4 gears and low power setting the ratios for the slipstream is essential, but spreading the 4 gears to drag the little snail up to top speed is a nightmare. If 1st gear is too high then the car can hardly drag itself off the grid allowing all of those lovely tow trucks to escape on the first lap!! So I practised the start, and the use of the clutch, over and over....but still almost messed up the start and had to dip the clutch go again.
Fortunately, I got the little car up to speed quite quickly and sat myself behind one of the huge Silver Arrows down to The Sudkerve for the first lap. All my plans almost went t*ts up at the first braking point when a group of Merc SL's applied their brakes about 200mtrs earlier than I was planning to do in the Gordini!!! I only just avoided taking out a few of those Mercs  Roll Eyes.
I was never going to overtake an SL, but I quickly realised that my little car was much faster through the Nordkerve and under braking, but with a silver road block ahead I could not take advantage of that  Undecided
There were a few casualties in the early laps and I found myself in 3rd place!!! Doni was ahead following Clive, but after avoiding a few cars that lost control under braking, Doni was frustratingly just a few metres beyond the slipstream range and I could not get the tow that would have dragged me away from chasing pack and perhaps take me all the way to the finish?.
After a few more laps I was joined by Phil and later by Bastian and so began a mutual slipstream event , until Bastian got the banking a little wrong and that left Phil and myself running 3rd/4th.
By swapping slipstream we were able to maintain the gap back to Fran's SL and it was possible that we could keep our places all the way to the finish  Smiley

That was how it worked until we caught Fulvio to lap his Lancia and suddenly we had a much faster car with us on the straights. I knew from a rehearsal on lap 15 that if I was faster through the right hander before the Nordkerve and if I was ahead there I could hiold Phil at bay until I crossed the line. So, the plan for the last lap, was to let Phil be in front at the Sudkerve, slipstream him up the return straight and draft past before the righthander to take a glorious 3rd place.
Brilliant plan, which almost worked lol. But... Fulvio's Lancia ( no complaints Fulvio you were very careful to not influence our race ) found itself  ahead of Phil and gave Phil a little extra speed that I could not match. I was resigned to 4th place as we entered the Nordkerve for the last time, but that was way, way better than I had hoped for.
Even my wife said that she overheard my shocked cry  when Phil went off right at the end of the banking, presenting me with a gift of 3rd place in the Escargot.
I really felt for Phil as he had driven a faultless race, whereas I had made a few mistakes and made a some miraculous escapes to get to the flag.

Commiserations to those who did not reach the finish, and congratulations to those who did.

Just my sort of race, nice and simple!  Start from the front, avoid being taken out in the first corner (Don't know how as I thought it was a certainty!), pull away from the pack and drive to the finish.  Although I almost managed to talk myself into binning it on the last lap!

Well done Doni and Fran.  Evil's third place was astounding!  I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was to see that!   Tongue

What can I say?
It was your inspirational remark about a snail on the return straight that did it Clive, after that it had to be the Gordini  Roll Eyes....I knew that you would be secretly pleased  Wink

And very hard luck on JonnyO.  I think that the last time that I can remember that happening was around about Season10.

Good morning all

Cautious start anyway I was last I think.

A few places gained following the accidents until I hit the wall on the pit side at the end of the turn.
The result was a maximum speed of 230klh before breaking my engine on the leader's 13th lap but only 9 for me, so I wasn't even classified, too bad.

Congratulations to the Winners and thank you to all

Hearty congratulation to Clive Loynes for a convincing victory.  Pole position, FTD and the win.  Doesn't get any better.

Fantastic run for Evil to put the little French puddle-jumper on the podium.  Really quite an admirable performance but in the same breath, I have to say that I'm shocked and dismayed to see Phil's excellent run come to grief within sight of the flag.  Shades of J. R. Hildebrand at Indy, 2011.

I didn't bother to look for a tow in qualifying and in hindsight, that cost me.  Starting P6 gave away too much to Clive and those ahead.  Ahhh, except for Jonny, of course.  Mon Dieu!  What a tragedy!  I had a similar result in a UKGPL race with GP65 cars some years ago at Montjuic.  Joined the grid, was warming up the engine at about 7K when WAMO!

Gareth having the misfortune to stuff it comprehensively at the end of Lap01 handed me P2 with some clearance behind.  Clive was almost in reach and I worked to close but a serious gaffe coming off the banking cost me dearly and I could see the writing on the wall.  For the balance of the race, I just cruised satisfied with P2.

Thanks Doni and well done for coming in 2nd.

I think he probably forgot to allow for the fact that I was towing him down the straight and so he arrived at the right-hander at more than normal Lancia speed.

Well observed Clive.  Wink I think I saw Gareth's demise at the right hander and had to take avoiding action to avoid Lancia bits ( I think there was another car involved too ). That hesitation was where I think I  lost the opportunity to get my tow rope onto the back of Doni's car.

The change in braking distance was something that became very noticeable in the Gordini, because when I picked up a good tow, my top speed went from 162mph ( in clear air ) up to 175mph or higher if I hooked up to one of the SL's. In fact I had a couple of lucky escapes at the hairpin early in the race when I thought that I had the braking under control....but I clearly didn't and ran around the concrete wall scraping chrome off the wheels.

There is that gut wrenching moment with the 55's when you realise that the retardation has evaporated at the last moment and the corner (and the barriers ) are approaching far too quickly  scared scared  I seem to experience that far too often lately  Undecided

Nothing to do with streaming, it was just a mistake.
If you think there was other cars involved or that is where you lost the tow I think you should watch the replay.  Wink

I could not avoid hitting Ricardo (I think that blow left him out ... hang sorry Ricardo) and restart badly, hitting another car, I went to the grass and goodbye motor.
mine is terrible in this season and in other leagues, I am sorry if and some riders are uncomfortable, it is just lack of training due to overwork no

I will protest !!!! I want my money back ....... Mercedes gave me a broken engine for the race. cursing
Very unlucky JonnyO, an engine blowing up at the start is rare.
Surly you wont charged for the Merc as you didnt start the race.
