Season 37 F1 Full Grand Prix – Round 5 –  Rouen les Essarts

This season we are experimenting with some Grand Prix length races which we estimate should take 90 mins to complete.
This change to our normal format has required some changes to our rules and etiquette, so please read everything carefully to ensure that you understand.

Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 27-09-2020
Time = 20:30 UK time (21:00 GMT) RACE WILL START AT APPROX 21:00 UK LOCAL TIME
Track = Rouen    Papyrus Original
Race length = 44 Laps (90 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Pro
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Password: see above
Replay = https://www.sendspace.com/file/f0450g

Please check the Season 37 details regarding rules.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND BE SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.

QUALIFYING
During qualifying drivers are expected to drive back to the pits after each qualifying run. It is not permissible to return to the pits using the "Esc" key. If a driver crashes his car in qualifying and cannot return to the pits safely under his own power, he must not participate in the remaining qualifying period. The driver will allocated the grid slot achieved at that point.
REFUELLING
On some tracks it may not be possible to complete the full race distance on one tank of fuel. To avoid having to drive conservatively in order to save fuel, it is recommended that drivers make use of the Pit Stop patch which allows refuelling. Details are on the UKGPL web site on the Game page under the rules section.

We are using Lee Bowden's pit stop patch V 1.0 available here
http://srmz.net/index.php?s=2f2b26bfa1b153fa8e44e9fc470d61a9&app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=28268

This patch allows cars to refuel in the pits to the same level as when they started the race and does NOT allow for tyres to be changed.
 You do not have to make a pitstop and may choose to run the whole race by filling your tanks from the start.

For Season 37 we are promoting the use of TEAMSPEAK for those who wish to use it. Details can be found here
This allows drivers to speak to each other if they wish, IT IS NOT COMPULSORY.

Important!!!
RED FLAG RESTARTS
We hope that drivers will be cautious on Lap 1 and avoid any moves that might cause a crash.
However, because this is racing there might be an occasion where several cars are eliminated, or badly damaged, by an incident on lap 1 and we could be left with 4 cars that have a lonely 90 minute race ahead of them.
If the moderator decides that any such incident on Lap 1, has removed too many cars from the race, he is able to order a RESTART, and he will announce this on Teamspeak and then through GPL CHAT.
The server will be shut down and restarted. There will then be a SINGLE lap qualifying session to determine the grid placings. Drivers will be allowed a single outlap followed by ONE flying lap to set a grid time. After completing your flying lap please pull off the track and ESC to pits to keep the track clear.
A Restart will only be called ONCE for each race and will only apply to Lap 1 incidents. If there is a multi car incident on Lap 2 then tough luck!! These are long races and a certain amount of caution should be used.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Grats to Enrique!
Just after the start all other cars disappeared for me. I kept going and when the cars reappeared I was in the lead! Pribluda and the pitboard were ignoring me. I spun going down to the hairpin, so Enrique and Axel passed me. I passed Axel when he went off, but he came back and he repassed me on the straight. I was relieved to see that he could obviously see me in doing so. It seems that I was still connected and visible, but not being counted on the leaderboard. Sorry to see you didn't quite get to the end, Axel.
I inherited 2nd and finished there about 30 seconds behind Enriique and 10 seconds in front of Fred.

Yes Andy I was wondering when you dissappeared and later reappeared... I ~ fixed it Wink

It is very cold and humid at the moment here, only about 12°C and the janitor has not turned on the heating.
I couldn't keep concentration until the end, partly sweating partly freezing,
so I made the mistake and then overloaded the engine while catching up - valve damage!

Thanks Axel.
I just watched the server replay. I was on my own in a parallel universe until I suddenly appeared in Fred's car after Lap1 hairpin. Must have been quite a shock for him. It didn't seem to cause the usual wild explosion, thankfully. I don't remember being near any cars when I rejoined the land of the racing.

thanks andy.
   I had an excellent result, I ran very concentrated and did not make any mistakes.
  But Andy, your car disappeared at the start and I thought you had a disconnection, but after the fork you appeared out of nowhere, practically on top of the BRM, something very strange .......
   in qualification I crashed on the fork, with 27 minutes remaining for the qualy to end, but I had doubts if by doing shift R I could get back on track again, and that's why I took the dare to bother in the chat with the question about That, because I was confused with the oAo rules and came to think that I could start again with 5 minutes to go before qualifying.
  Thanks Axel for clarifying my doubts and by the way you helped Joao, because I also think he was wrong in the rules.
   About my race, I think that few times I have run as concentrated as yesterday, I did not make a single mistake and I was quite fast, at first Axel was on my heels, but I was able to stay firm and with that I achieved an advantage that gave me the long-awaited victory, I was very, very happy, with this result, since I had a couple of months very full of work and I have not been able to train much, for the other leagues I run, and my results have been very bad.
   Today I am relieved of that weight and I was able to win and that makes me happy.
  congrats andy for your 2 place and frederik for your 3 place.
  but it is worth giving a big hug to joao for the high recovery, after having given up all the positions in the start to pay for his mistake in qualy, that's a gentleman's act and joao has plenty of that.
  see you in goodwood
  Thank you all and I apologize again, for having written in the chat, I know that it is prohibited, but thanks to that, 2 runners were saved Grin

Grats to Enrique and the podium places.

 We have had some great racing in the 5 rounds so far, and everyone has shown great respect and skill in avoiding incidents. Thankyou, it makes my life much easier  Wink.

When we started this Grand Prix series it was a new thing for UKGPL and we wanted to keep the 90 minute races interesting ( and fun!! ). We are now at the half way point in the season and it is time to review the car allocations  scared shifty

Over the next 24-48 hrs I will look through the cars/drivers/points and some of you will get an upgrade, and some will find that they have a different car for the last 5 races.
The plan will be that when we reach the start line for race 10, the championship will NOT already be decided, and maybe 3 or 4 drivers still have a mathematical chance to take the top place.

IMPORTANT!!!!
ALSO PLEASE NOTE..     The next race was scheduled to be GOODWOOD, but we have tested this track with some fun races and discovered that it is bad for disco's and screen freezes.
The moderators are discussing which track should replace Goodwood and this decision will be posted asap.

Congratulation Enrique, Frederic and JJ
Since I had only been released from the hospital for 2 days, I was glad to be able to be there at all and I really just wanted to arrive. After some probs (wrong version of track) with only 28 min to go I could start practice. As often in Rouen!! a super great race followed, never boring, always under pressure, always at the limit, luck on our side - hadn‘t we Frederic? - thx for waiting Smiley - from P7 to 5 to 4, to 3, from 3 back to 5 (two fast BRM caught me back), then 4, then 3 and with three laps to go even to P2 and because I was doing too well Wink P4 in the end. Thanks to Tris, Fred, JJ and Clive - I had a lot of fun, I hope you too. With pleasure once more! Cheesy

The next race will not be at GOODWOOD as there are some issues with that track. Instead, race #6 will be at WEISBADEN.

 BELOW IS THE REVISED CAR ALLOCATION FOR THE FINAL 5 RACES.  PLEASE CHECK THAT YOU KNOW WHICH CAR YOU SHOULD USE.

This race was a kind of repeat of previous races. I can do a good quali with a light BRM, but even in pole position there is no way I can keep my position with full tank. As the chassis were redistributed it may seem fair for everyone, but I don't feel this totally fair as I have no chance to battle for the title.

I really enjoy GP races. This is hard but this is what it was then. This is the reason I will continue racing for this season. But I would like the organizing committee to think about the fact that close racing is not an excuse to prevent a driver to win the title. GP race in BRM is not so funny as it might appear. I do my best to gain position in the quali and then I get pass by 3 drivers in the first lap because I'm so slow with full tank. I battle each and every race to keep the car on the track and to keep my engine not to blow. In the first laps it is sometimes very tricky because driver behind are surprised about "my slow pace".

Poitn done. Anyway, this was a fun race like Uli mentioned. First the ferrari from Andy appears in front of me after the "Nouveau monde" what a nice coincidence... Without this lag he could not have passed me so early, but then soon after Enrique (brab) and Cookie (lotus) are just leaving me far behind. I could have done better if I could manage this heavy car consistantly on the track but I cannot avoid little mistakes and keep the pace of front drivers. Tristan was very close to overtake me as he was very quick with the BRM but he was also struggling with the BRM. While I'm trying to keep some control to secure the finish line Tristan is giving it everything Smiley. He apparently had a problem as he finished 4 laps behind. After my miserable engine blowing from last race I kept it cool in the first part of the race. But then I started to make more little mistakes. Uli understood that perfectly by putting pressure on me during the second half of the race. He was successful in this attempt 2-3 laps before the end grrrr .... But he made a mistake shortly after. I finished 40 sec behind Enrique. Then I realised that Andy was still in the race 10 sec in front of me. 3rd is not so bad. Grats to them and to Uli and Jo and also the finishers. 44 times the nouveau monde is an achievement guys  Cool.

Enrique took me 1 s per lap. How can I do close racing with him.... ah yes he now has the Honda this is will be a bit easier. Jo is now in Honda too hmmm.... Iestyn is in cooper with a better ranking than me  Huh... I would like to understand the logic there Smiley well if he does not show up anyway...

I'll give it my best for the remaining of the season. We'll see where this leave me in the championship....

I understand why you might feel penalised by having the BRM. I am sure that you are not the only driver that wishes for a faster car?
However, the faster drivers are all near the top of the table after 5 races??  I do not claim to have used a perfect algorithm to allocate the cars to the drivers, I am just not that clever!.

If we look closely at the points table, things are not quite so bad for you as they at first appear. Do not forget that under the rules, all drivers have to drop their 2 worst scores at the end of the season.
If we take the single worst score from each of the first 5 races for those cars around you, things get a little closer. Looking forward, some of those drivers also have a slower car for the remaining 5 races.
 If we drop 1 score from the first 5 races the points are:-
Enrique    187
Jonny       166
Andy        144
Uli            138
FGubbels   127
Evilclive     115

I do not think that this championship is decided yet as we are only at 50% distance, so everything could change again. A single DNF when one of the top drivers has not completed 50% distance= zero points. I would guess that any driver from the top 5 or 6 could still take the championship?

 This is the first time that UKGPL has run a series like this with 90 minute races and it was an experiment, plus there are many new drivers on the grid and we did not know their true pace, which is why we have reviewed the cars after 5 races.

@ FG. If you find that your BRM is much faster with less fuel. You can always run 50% fuel and take a pitstop at half race distance? I will leave you to do the calculation to see if it works for you.

If we run a similar 90 minute format for the next season, we might change things a little to keep the competition element interesting....maybe just tokens to buy cars for each race?, maybe tokens but also with timed pitstops for the faster cars?, maybe free choice of 2 drives max per chassis ?? Nothing is decided yet, but the moderators will start planning soon.

I hope that all drivers continue for the whole season as we have had some tremendous racing and great respect on track too. Thanks to all who are trying their best with cars that they might not have selected for themselves.
