Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 197s

This incident occurred as a result of contact between Lorenzo and Fabri further up the cue of traffic on lap 1 (Quickly redressed by Lorenzo on the following straight) which set in motion a cascade of smaller bumps and check-ups back through the following train of cars in Lycee hairpin.

Looking at the replay and the cascade of contacts that followed I would normally be inclined to call a contact of this sort a racing incident.

The slow/crashed cars ahead WERE visible, and Syd DID change his line and slow to turn inside the near stationary cars.

Unfortunately the contacts to the cars outside of the corner resulted in Stefan being fired across Syd's nose just under a second before the incident happened.
This did provide time to brake, but Syd did not - although the replay also shows that he didn't accelerate more than he had already been and was still turning to avoid Stefan's car.

Even at these speeds it is very likely that the collision would have happened regardless of Syd's braking or not, and Stefan would have been fired nose first into the barriers instead of spun - but the lack of braking, even after initial contact, makes racing incident much harder to apply.

I have reduced the standard penalty from 3 places to 1 as I feel contact was inevitable in this case - however a penalty is appropriate as more could have been done to try and avoid it.

I had a lot of fun yesterday.

First, I must acknowledge Maxime's help with the setup that helped me get my lap times in the reasonable zone (1:28) and gave me a chance to be relatively upfront at the start of the race... It's hard to overtake here.

The first lap defined 95% of the race for me. The accident at Lycée hairpin between Lorenzo and Fabri pushed me to the left and I couldn't close the turn enough which wasn't great but then I was hit by Mark that was suffering similarly from understeering (I believe). In any case, nothing really changed there for us. Mark went ahead and I found myself in a very compromised parallel run with Maxime that played it very respectfully as we were approaching that terrible left corner at the top of the hill  thumbup1

Mark's error in the last part of L1 was my opportunity to be in P5 and the rest of the race was perfectly described by Mark in his comment. I had some lap time management and pressure from Mark at the end to keep me focused.

I leave the video of the race in my youtube channel for those that want to see 'consistency'  yes from my viewpoint.

I'm delighted with the podium!  clap

I agree with all of that except the bit about me hitting you. I do believe you hit those outside concrete bales and bounced back into me as I exited the hairpin  angel  but nice video as always  Cool

Thanks Mark. We might be both right. My car indeed bounced back after hitting the bales but there was really not space in the track at the left of your car... Anyhow. Great race.

Actually, I forgot to add that you can see this at 0:48 in my video (I think).

All the best,

Ouch, I get it my friend.  Wink Wasn't serious anyway of course, but surprised me that you could do that just for fun.
That end of session "out of control" phenomenom always bugged me by the way.  Roll Eyes

Apologies for the late moderation - I hadn't actually realised there were reports.

Please take note of the comments about braking in this instance and that all possible avoiding action should be taken in similar occurrences.
While I appreciate there will be instances when you feel a car has just pulled straight across into your line - even if you're correct in that feeling you should still take all avoiding actions available to you.
