GTR2 Night Race at Oschersleben-B

All forum members welcome.

Date: Wednesday 11th October

Qual 2: 8:30pm (15 mins)
Warmup: 8:45pm (2 mins)
Race: 8:47pm (20 mins)

Cars allowed: 350Z, TVR, Mosler, Morgan
Weather: Dry

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the UKGTR Rules - especially the speed limiter starting procedure.

The correct procedure is brake-swear, not swear-brake.

I've added another race this week due to the high turnout tonight. We need to test night races at some point, so this is a good opportunity. You may need to turn down your detail levels to get playable frame rates. In particular, turning down the lighting and shadow levels will speed things up. I've also turned off anti-aliasing on my PC - I don't really notice the difference when racing.

The following gave me extra FPS on my ATI card, useful for night races:

- Turned down the resolution from 1280x960 to 1024x768. I noticed practically no difference in quality between the two.
- Changed Anti-Aliasing to 'Application Controlled'.
- Turned off Adaptive Anti-Aliasing.
- Turned off Vertical Sync in GTR2 config - made sure it said 'Application Controlled' in ATI Tray Tools as well.
- Reduced Anti-Aliasing to Level 2 in GTR2 Config - got a huge FPS increase. Turning it off completely made things look very ugly.

Also ive disabled Shadows completely for the biggest fps boost and lowered special effects a bit. Ive got 7800GT SLI and night time fps = 60 avg

AA has always been off in GTR2 config and driver setting, if u need AA and u notice it during a race...ur obviously travelling very slowly Cheesy hf

I notice it when coming up behind slower cars Tongue The car itself ends up all pixellated - makes it look like I'm driving a very detailed Sega Saturn game.

Cant make this one, shame as it would have been interesting to test the night conditions with a big grid. Ah well gives someone else a chance to play  angel

Great idea to have a night race. I relly hope I can make this one.

I haven't done any testing with night settings yet, I'll have to give it a go to see how my FPS are affected.
