Moderator's Report

Summary
Pole position, fastest lap and a race win earn a hit-trick for Tristan Bot. Tom Guérout, in another Ferrari, pushed Tristan extremely hard losing pole position and fastest lap by mere thousandths of a second but in the end, he had to settle for the runner-up spot. Alessandro Isacchini claimed the final podium place with a brilliant drive in the Brabham BT7.

Server replay time: 0h00m54s

Lap 1 – Courbe Armand Brouzes – David Rainier and Francesco Molteni
David gets a decent start and is cautious into Courbe Armand Brouzes, wary of a pile-up that occurs far too often at on lap 1 at Albi. Francesco also gets a good start but rather than stay on his own side where there is a clear track ahead, he moves over to get right behind David as they approach the braking zone for Courbe Armand Brouzes. Francesco rear ends David and a big accident occurs. Both cars continue but David needs a reset.

David did nothing wrong.

Francesco was caught out by David’s cautious approach but there was no need to move over right onto David’s gearbox when there was an empty road ahead. It would have been far safer to remain on the right-hand side of the track where he had the inside line for Courbe Armand Brouzes.

The contact was unintentional, but Francesco must take responsibility for the incident. More care on lap 1 please.

Season 37 MIXED OPEN WHEEL – Round 6 –  Albi

The Mixed Open Wheel series in which we will be using cars from 1965, 1966, 1967 (F2) & the newly released 1968 mod. Drivers entering this series must select a manufacturer group & keep to that group for the whole season. Where more than one chassis is allocated to the group you can select any car. Pro / Works standard drivers cannot use Group 8 or Group 9.

Round 6 means the second outing for the 1965 cars. We visit Albi in the Midi-Pyrénées region.  Racing first started on the Circuit des Planques in 1933, the pits and startline being on a short straight before the road twisted down into St.Antoine. At St.Juery the cars had to contend with an extreme hairpin bend, followed by a railway level crossing. The 5.531 mile circuit was shortened in 1951 to 1.859 miles, before being closed in 1955 following the Le Mans disaster. Racing resumed at the nearby Aerodrome in 1959 which is the circuit we now know as Albi. The Chicane du Sequestre was introduced in 1988 but we will be using the original layout as raced in 1967.

Tom,

18 drivers attended the last race so there should be a space for you.

As Gareth said you need to vote to join.

Fulvio can't make Tuesday's so Cooper's could do with a replacement driver but you can choose any chassis apart from Lotus or Brabham.

Fulvio - I have reassigned you as reserve.

Quick question as a reserve...

How do I know if there is space for me? Should I wait in Igor UKGPL chat and wait to be given permission? Last time I rudely just jumped in at Watkins Glen so I hope I didn't deny someone else the slot.

Hope to join you later as a back marker in the BT7.

The process we usually adopt is that we have 19 full time drivers. These guys should join between 20:45 and 21:00. After that it is a free for all, the reserve drivers can join if there is a space. There usually is. It is very rare for someone not to get a drive unless we have more than 5 or 6 reserves. We have 4 reserves at the moment so things are getting at bit tight (but we've not got enough drivers to warrant a second server).

OK, I get it. See you later. I remember the days of 3 servers in the VROC F2 club driving the F2 Trainers with a dial up 56K modem. How things have changed for the better.

Tom,
I have processed your entry so you should see the password.

We have a total of 24 entries but several drivers are only part time. For the next race I will publish the rule that reserve drivers should not join until after 9pm which gives the full time drivers a opportunity to reserve their slot.
In practice I expect that everyone who wants to drive will be able to join.

Help! I'm trying to join qualifying but I get error saying that I'm not qualified to join... 23 minutes to go Sad

Update: Sorry, I was unable to join tonight. I tried various methods but I kept getting same error message. I could initially join server but then got message saying that I was not qualified to join. At first I thought it was because it had seem by practice times Wink I tried rebuilding the gpl65c.exe and even re-installed the track. Made sure that Albi was in my 67season (but I don't think that makes a difference). I definitely have the correct 60FPS patch but still nothing. Any ideas? I was gutted not to be able to join as this is the only chance in a fortnight I get to race online. How can I avoid this situation next time around? Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks. I hope you have a good race.

Update: I've got everything set up for the next round: 1966 Mod, EagleT1F, 60FPS, Clermont, reliable set-up, fuel. I'll try to arrive a bit earlier next time so that I can make sure I can join the server.

We always have the race server running for a few hours before the race for drivers to check their connections. It isn't easy to sort out connection problems just before the race. Apart from the race password, everything will be the same. So if you can connect in praccy before the race, you should have no problems. I appreciate this is of no use now and I'm sorry you missed the race. What I will do is set UKGPL_4 up tomorrow night with exactly the same settings as tonight (65s at Albi). Then you can try to find out what the issue is and we can try to help.

A difficult race for me, the Cooper is very slow and I don't have the skills to compensate. I was overdriving a bit to try to stay with the pack and consequently I dropped to a distant last and I resigned myself to a lonely boring race. However, I decided to persevere as you never know what can happen up front. For some reason unbeknown to me, I manged to catch a couple of people and I found myself on Billy's gearbox. I tried very hard but I couldn't engineer an opportunity to pass. Uli caught us up and I stayed wide in the last corner to let him by to lap me. Billy was equally gentlemanly and allowed Uli past at T2. I saw an opportunity to sneak past and I took it. Sorry Billy, I don't normally resort to dirty tactics but the Cooper was annoyingly slow. There were only 2 laps to go and I thought Billy would find me a sitting duck on the long straights and take the  place back easily. But I think red mist must have descended and I saw him make a mistake in my mirrors and I was safe.

Grats to Tris and Tom for being the class of the field in their very fast red machines but my vote for driver of the day goes to Alessandro for getting the BT7 onto the podium. A very impressive drive!
