Came across this little gem of a film purely by accident and had never seen it before.

A great soundtrack for the engine sounds, just loved the Lancia growl. I had to laugh at the commentator's comment about "running out of brakes" at the hairpin.  Wink Wink. I guess we know how that driver feels ?
I was more surprised by the comprehensive failure of the Mercedes 4 car team. One car crashed out in qualifying, Spare car retired early in race, Fangio out at half distance in the race and Moss's car develops a bad smoking habit and retires?!!

Nice to see realtime footage, and quality colour reproduction.  Half of U-tube's pre-2000, has been speeded up. Roll Eyes

BTW - the Merc was a special short wheelbase version, made for the tight corners.

Yes I have.
And I think that I also met him during my early kart racing days.  Big bloke!  Not the sort of figure that would fit in a modern F1.

He was more like Froilan Gonzales than the Alain Prost type , just think what Gerry Marshal might have done had he lost 15 stone  Grin
