Season 37 F1 Full Grand Prix – Round 9 –  Zeltweg

Just 2 races left in the season and a possible 5 way battle for the championship.

This season we are experimenting with some Grand Prix length races which we estimate should take 90 mins to complete.
This change to our normal format has required some changes to our rules and etiquette, so please read everything carefully to ensure that you understand.

Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 22-11-2020
Time = 20:30 UK time (21:00 GMT) RACE WILL START AT APPROX 21:00 UK LOCAL TIME
Track = Zeltweg 1971       http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=5256
Race length = 48 Laps (90 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Pro
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Password: see above
Replay = https://www.sendspace.com/file/2i609w

Please check the Season 37 details regarding rules.

Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND BE SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.
QUALIFYING
During qualifying drivers are expected to drive back to the pits after each qualifying run. It is not permissible to return to the pits using the "Esc" key. If a driver crashes his car in qualifying and cannot return to the pits safely under his own power, he must not participate in the remaining qualifying period. The driver will allocated the grid slot achieved at that point.
REFUELLING
On some tracks it may not be possible to complete the full race distance on one tank of fuel. To avoid having to drive conservatively in order to save fuel, it is recommended that drivers make use of the Pit Stop patch which allows refuelling. Details are on the UKGPL web site on the Game page under the rules section.

We are using Lee Bowden's pit stop patch V 1.0 available here
http://srmz.net/index.php?s=2f2b26bfa1b153fa8e44e9fc470d61a9&app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=28268

This patch allows cars to refuel in the pits to the same level as when they started the race and does NOT allow for tyres to be changed.
 You do not have to make a pitstop and may choose to run the whole race by filling your tanks from the start.

For Season 37 we are promoting the use of TEAMSPEAK for those who wish to use it. Details can be found here
This allows drivers to speak to each other if they wish, IT IS NOT COMPULSORY.

Important!!!
RED FLAG RESTARTS
We hope that drivers will be cautious on Lap 1 and avoid any moves that might cause a crash.
However, because this is racing there might be an occasion where several cars are eliminated, or badly damaged, by an incident on lap 1 and we could be left with 4 cars that have a lonely 90 minute race ahead of them.
If the moderator decides that any such incident on Lap 1, has removed too many cars from the race, he is able to order a RESTART, and he will announce this on Teamspeak and then through GPL CHAT.
The server will be shut down and restarted. There will then be a SINGLE lap qualifying session to determine the grid placings. Drivers will be allowed a single outlap followed by ONE flying lap to set a grid time. After completing your flying lap please pull off the track and ESC to pits to keep the track clear.
A Restart will only be called ONCE for each race and will only apply to Lap 1 incidents. If there is a multi car incident on Lap 2 then tough luck!! These are long races and a certain amount of caution should be used.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Registered drivers are  :    Car allocated
BELOW IS THE REVISED CAR ALLOCATION FOR THE FINAL 5 RACES.  PLEASE CHECK THAT YOU KNOW WHICH CAR YOU SHOULD USE.

  Congratulations Uli, you were perfect and the final fight to pass the 1st was fantastic, the two pilots were at the edge of the razor's edge.
  In the final part of the race I got tired and lost ground, I really needed the 3rd, but I couldn't keep up with Fulvio, who was very fast in the final part.
   At the beginning I had a dispute with Farina side by side for some turns and it was a very critical moment and the adrenaline was high, but my friend Farina was very correct even forcing a passage, we were all very fast, but for me these races are forcing a lot my neck.
  In the end Eric Bilodeau passed Farina, they were together and it must be hot there !!

  Congrats Rainier!!! Champion Privateers!!!

Not really proud of my race and my season  Sad
I will be Privateers champion (depending of the moderation) only by the fact there was no real opponents.
Alain and Axel are way quicker than me but had no luck at all and rarely got to finish a race.
And Philippe took part at this championship halfway.

Yesterday, as usual my first objective was to finish the race (or at least 50% to score).
But  I drove in a too relaxed way and lost a wheel by inattention.
I did 10 laps or more with only 3 wheels, and it was easier than expected ...except in left turns !

I hope everything was ok when other racers overtook me (several times !!)

Congratulation Andy and Fulvio, big hand to you,  thumbup2
that was great racing yesterday, THX to you Andy and Fulvio.
At the start I had again no chance against Andy's Ferrari Power and Andy's SUPER Start – congratulation! But I was able to follow Andy surprisingly well and even built up more and more pressure during the race, getting more and more pressure from Fulvio.
After Axel and Alain were out of the race I tried everything I could to get out of that "Ferrari Sandwich“ passing Andy, waiting for a mistake. But that don‘t come easy – great ride Andy!  thumbup1
Finally, on lap 37 the time had come. We ride through the Dr. Tiroch curve side by side, giving room each other – with the better end on my side! Only the best have this overview in a close duel. I hope you have fun to see that Fulvio, first row spectator. Wink It looked fine in the replay from your point of view.
Andy attacked me in lap 38 at the end of the start and finish line just before the Hella curve and passed me. My counterattack followed immediately, and so we went again side by side through the Dr. Tiroch.
Poohh, those were 48 laps of Full Power almost always at the limit - I didn't imagine the “Long Distance Races“ to be like that Wink there was no time for tactics, it was just full throttle whatever worked.
Congratulation Dave for getting Privatiers Champion!
Great racing again this time here at Zeltweg!
Looking forward to an exciting final.

I did not expect this race to be as stressful and enjoyable as this. It started at the start when I had an unexpectedly good start and passed Uli and Fulvio before T1. Alain went wide to the barrier in T1 and I was up to P2. He soon repassed me and disappeared up the road with Axel. Unfortunately they didn't see the race to the end. I found myself in the lead with Uli pushing very hard to find a way past. After about an hour he went up the inside in T2, but ran wide so I could cut back under and stay in front. Soon after, again under braking for T2, he cleanly passed around the outside. Brilliant driving. I then had a good run on him at the start line and passed before T1. We had a very lucky incident there where we touched wheels, but were barely affected. In the replay we held our lines, were close, then gradually came closer. I was so glad we were alright. I didn't know what happened at the time and wondered if it was my fault and I should give the place back, but Uli came through again at T2 anyway. Then the race was done. Fulvio was very close behind watching us throughout this. Great driving and I'm glad we made it to the end.
I was very surprised to find that I had the fastest lap as I felt I was holding Uli and Fulvio up. The chassis allocation worked well here as the fastest laps for the 9 fastest drivers were within 0.7 seconds.

Two lowest scores are dropped in the final championship table. With two dropped and one race to go, subject to moderation, the numbers look like this:
Jonny 285
Enrique 283
Uli 281
Andy 278
But with Jonny never finishing worse than 4th all season, we have to do better than 4th to catch him.

I have a possibly unpopular opinion about this race. I was surprised to see two drivers who haven't signed up for this series (or any UKGPL series) allowed to access the server and start the race. We are all for larger grids and I guess they are respectful and innocent drivers from GPL Brasil, but everyone has had to register and be allocated a chassis until now. I hope they register for the next race.

Yes I also noticed it.
Very strange, I can't see them in Registration Groups (LM2 for moderation) !

Thanks Philippe.

About a 18 races championship, it is not up to me to decide but UKGPL habits are to manage 2 championships per year.
18 races in 6 months is not possible, moreover when you remove holidays times.

TBH those drivers didn't even read the race post and did not know our GP rules in Qualification....
We have to ask JJonnyO if he can tell us what happened?
It makes some extra work importing such a race and find out if an unknown driver ever was registered at UKGPL Roll Eyes

My race ended too soon, as I had only short concentration because of strong headache Sad

Sorry gents my fault. Ricardo PM'ed me before the race (quite late 20:29 UK time) and I said it should be OK, there won't be a full grid.

I didn't think about whether or not they had read the rules, I just assumed. I further realise that I should have forwarded the request onto Clive as Divisional Moderator to make the decision.  Ricardo did the right thing and the new drivers had been given permission to join, albeit erroneously by me. I'll be more careful next time and make sure everyone is informed before a decision is made.

Grats to Uli and the podium and all finishers.

Fortunately the 2 "guest drivers" did not have a huge influence on the final result, or things might have got complicated  Wink

I was trundling around in my Cooper gradually finding where the pace was ( I have used the same setup for the whole season, just small adjustments to gear ratios) I was just beginning to find a steady, quick pace and close up on Enrique when the strain became too much for the engine and it popped!! At least is was beyond 50% distance.

I watched the race at the front for  a few laps and WOW! !! to have 3 cars that close after 90 mins racing at 100%  I Am Not Worthy I Am Not Worthy I Am Not Worthy

With 1 race left, it looks like a 4 way battle. Good luck guys  sweatdrop sweatdrop sweatdrop

Question.

Looking at the fastest lap times posted in the GP & Sprint races & there isn't more than a spit of difference between them. Are the cars slower on GP settings or is it down to starting on a heavy fuel load?
