It was nice racing last night.

I was quick in Practice session but with fuel for half the race distance so i knew it won't be easy on qualifying. And this was the case, i started from P4 but just 2 tents behind the pole sitter.

The start was good as i was able to avoid Ziu and overtake him. After that we started good battle with Geoff and Dan. Little by little i started to be slower than Geoffers, Daz and Ziu and had to drive in P4 after Dan made a mistake on turn 1.

I wanted to stay in the battle for at least podium but the guys in front of me were in a different league that evening.

Congrats to Daz for the win and to Geoff and Ziu for their podiums.

Good race, quite enjoy these as they are FWD.

Was surprised by the laptimes in practice as I had only just got into the 2.06s in testing, so I was quite pleased to do a low 2.06 in qually for 3rd on the grid.

In the race it took me a few laps to really get a good pace & after dicing with DD & Dan at the beginning I was able to ease away & chase Daz. The gap between us didn't really change for much of the race, some laps Daz was quicker, some laps I was quicker, I think both of us found it difficult to be consistent, a small mistake at one of the chicanes easily lost you half a second. In the second half of the race Ziu had recovered from a bad start to get into 3rd place & tenth by tenth was gaining on me & it was only a few really good laps near the end that stopped him from catching me. Also gained a bit on Daz near the end but without a serious mistake from him it was unlikely I would catch him. All in all happy with 2nd on a track with so many damn chicanes.

Congrats to Daz & Ziu.  clap clap

I am not sure how many I need to apologise to for the Lap 1 T1 fracas. I have not looked at a replay and I do not know who it was yet.

I did try and warn you a week ago that I am now using a race rig with "H" pattern shifter. It does not excuse bad driving, but I simply missed a downshift and nudged the car ahead as everything slowed for the chicane. I think there was a knock-on effect with several cars suffering  Sad.

I waited for cars to pass me before picking up the pace again around Curve Grande.

Despite a lot of pre race practice I was struggling in the early laps to find any consistent pace with small mistakes costing me half seconds. TBH I was not expecting to be anywhere near the front runners as I get used to a seat that is not on castors and a different gearchange. That is a lot for my small brain to cope with.

I need to investigate the brake pedal parameters in the Logitech Profiler because everyone else in the race used half the braking distance that I found that I needed!! Plus, it was very noticeable at the chicane before Lesmo 1, that when I lifted OFF the brake pedal the front wheels remained locked up and the car would just understeer into the gravel ??  Undecided To overcome that problem I had to start braking before the bridge and slow the car to almost a crawl to get it turned in.
I had a similar issue with Parabolica and I was braking from BEFORE the 200mtr board to have any chance of turning into that corner.
As the race progressed and the fuel load came down ( plus I was getting into a rhythm with the H shift ) I gradually reduced the braking distance by about 25%, but it was very much "on the limit".
In the last 5 laps I found some pace and started to post some more respectable lap times.

As regards the brake pedal I would appreciate some feedback from you guys about what I noticed at the end of the race.
After crossing the line I slowed the car down and dropped the shifter down to 1st, then into neutral. Normally any car I have previously used in GTL will simply roll forward when in neutral for quite a distance. But at Monza last night, when in Neutral it simply stopped as if the brakes were being applied?? I actually repeated the move a couple of times just to be sure I was not imagining things, but each time was the same. This might be the Profiler settings actually not reducing the BRAKE pedal to zero upon release, but I don't think I have experienced that before.
Anyway that is my excuse for not winning!...I drove the whole race with the handbrake on  Tongue

Clive your problem with pedal brake could be the potentiometer. Go in the controls sheet of GTL and watch if the brake progress work just when push pedal, if no you need clean the potentiometer. I replaced potentiometer of accelerator because flickers, i try to  clean it before but not has been useful so i replaced.

Clive,
Did you accidentally check the "combined pedals" box instead of  separate pedals. in the control centre or in game?

I have just watched Dimitar's video of the Scirroco race and it sort of confirms that I had a problem.

It is very obvious that he is braking at around the 100mtr board and in the same corners I had to brake at the 200mtr board to have any chance of keeping control of the car and actually turning in to the corner. Last night, if I waited until the 100mtr board my car would have just gone straight to the gravel trap with the front tyres smoking, without even attempting a turn in.
It could have been my setup, but Geoffers was decent enough to share his setup with me,  so it had to be something else. I don't claim to be as fast as Geoffers, but I would like to think that I can use the same brakes to slow a car down in the same distance in a straight line?

So I have reviewed the Logitech Profile and that all seems OK, checked the settings within GTL and found that today I needed to allocate/re-configure the controls??. Then I tried a few laps offline at Monza88 with the same setup as I used last night and focusing purely on the braking distances. If I applied the brakes at the 200mtr board I could get the car to a complete stop 50mts before the corner, just as well that it was offline as it was almost embarrassing  Roll Eyes more like Mr Molehusband ( those of you of a certain age will remember Reginald Molehusband!) Undecided. The 100mtr board was definitely the point at which the anchors should be applied.

So it appears that something was awry but it is not permanent fortunately and all seems good now.
