I was going to schedule a fun race on wednesday to check the performance and handling on intermediate tyres. Just been testing offline. With rain set to 10% I'm quicker on slicks, on 20% I'm quicker on full rain tyres. Are the inters completely pointless?  Huh Or are they only of use on a drying track?

The correct procedure is brake-swear, not swear-brake.

Is it possible to set up a drying track? So you have to start with wets or inters, and make a stop halfway for slicks.

How many laps did you do? Wets will get warm quickly which will give you fast times but will go off very fast if not properly cooled. If you can keep slicks hot enough they will be fine as long as there is no standing water. Inters should be good if there's enough water on the track to stop slicks staying hot enough, but not enough for full wets to stay cool over a race stint length.

To finish first, first you must have fins.

You can only get this with changeable weather, and then it happens very rarely - you can't force it in any way.

Only did a few laps Dave, and the tyre temps on wets seemed to be OK with 20% rain. Didn't look closely though, I'll try a longer stint.

I wasn't checking the tyre temps enough or running for long enough, soft wets overheat with 30% rain. Looks like there is a small window at about 20-30% rain where inters are the best tyre.
