Part 1:
Jari makes a mistake exiting Sachskurve which gives Stefan a run on him approaching Elfkurve.
Stefan moves to the inside and gets sufficient overlap (slightly over half a car length in this instance) and Jari then turns right directly into Stefan resulting in contact.

Both cars loose control which results in them exiting the final turn at the same time and another incident; to be detailed in Part 2.

In this instance Jari clearly turned into Stefans car causing contact.

Drivers should pay careful attention to the stock proximity app and/or Helicorsa if they are off pace and know they are around traffic as the car/s behind will take advantage of any loss of pace if they can.

I would normally encourage any re-dressing of position to NOT occur mid corner, but as result of part 2 of this incident it is very hard to determine Jari's intention after the contact.

Server replay time: 269s

Part 2:
Following the contact at Elfkurve both Jari and Stefan were out of shape entering the final turn (Opalkurve).
Jari was infront but due to running over the large circular kerbing on the outside was much slower, this allowed Stefan who was on the correct racing line to pass cleanly in the inside of the corner.
Exiting the corner Stefan moved across onto the racing line, however he was not fully clear of Jari at this point which resulted in Jari's front bumper clipping the rear of Stefan's bumper - spinning Stefan into the wall.

Jari was on the left hand edge of the track and driving straight at the time of contact.
He was also travelling slower than Stefan at this point so Stefan would have been fully ahead before the S/F line and the braking zone for T1, which would redress the earlier incident - whether intentionally or not.

As the intention to redress the 1st incident is impossible to tell due to the subsequent contact, the overall penalty is being determined based on the outcome of this 2nd contact.

In this part of the incident the fault actually lies with Stefan for moving across before he was clear when entering the Start/Finish straight.
After that contact Jari pulled over and waited until Stefan had got under way again and was ahead - placing himself very much last.

Jari's redress of the spin - which in this case was not really attributable to him - and the time lost as a result is a sufficient penalty of itself.

Both instances were caused by a lack of awareness regarding opponents cars - drivers should be certain it is safe to move over before doing so.

Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 138s

After travelling through T1 alongside SRW and having some light door to door contact after hitting the inside kurbs, Kimi is slow exiting and finds himself sliding to the far right of the circuit.
This allows Stefan to pass cleanly to Kimi's left on the run to T2.

As SRW is returning to the track on the left and travelling slower, Stefan positions himself towards the centre of the track for his manoeuvrer.

After recovering from his slide to the right, kimi moves back across towards the left and drives straight into Stefan, who himself is moving slightly left under braking having realised he won't catch SRW in time.

Stefan's Car was visible in Kimi's mirrors as he moved left exiting T1 to make his pass, the arrow from the stock app clearly moved up alongside Kimi's car to the left while he was out of view and he was alongside and visible through the side window before the contact occurred. In Helicorsa the positions of the 3 cars were also very clear on the lead up to this incident.

After the incident Kimi did not wait for Stefan or re-dress the contact.

When a driver makes a mistake and/or ends up off line for any reason they do not have a right to just drive straight back onto the racing line.

As the fault is clear in this instance and the place was not re-dressed the full penalty of 2 positions is applied.

It is strongly recommended that Helicorsa is used by drivers as it massively increases the situational awareness of it's users (It should be noted that this sort of incident is much rarer in ACC when away from public servers as that has a built in equivalent).

Server replay time: 284s

Approaching T2 Kimi has braked on time but missed his turn in point and run wide leaving a car width to his right on the inside. Stefan has braked on time and makes the apex which allows him to turn inside Kimi.

Kimi is continuing to slow in an attempt to turn down onto the apex when contact between himself and Stefan occurs.

The racing rules are very clear on mistakes of this nature:
"If the driver ahead runs wide and provides an opportunity for the following driver to get alongside, both drivers are responsible for leaving each other racing room."
This can be found at the top of the following link :https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3349.msg65156#msg65156

As Stefan was under full control and would have made the corner, the fault in this contact is not his, he was under no obligation to slow or redress as a result.

For future reference for correct procedure; on the same lap and the same corner, Matteo and Maxime find themselves in the same situation - Matteo out-brakes himself and misses his turn in point. He recognises his mistake and leaves room for Maxime on the inside who is already moving to take advantage.
No contact or even significant slowing of the opponents occurs as a result.

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

Welcome to Round 8 of the DTM season. This will be held on the 'short 2' variant of Hockenheim in order to replicate many DTM events of the past.
Ballast will be applied to the following drivers as follows:

+20Kgs = Manteos
+15Kgs = FMG
+10Kgs = Fabri
+ 5Kgs  = Maxime

The 'Short 2' variants is a fast but short lap around Hockenheim's infield - it was picked over the alternate variant purely because it doesn't feature the clumsy chicane when re-joining the main track.

When joining the server please ensure you select the correct car.

pleb question:    ABS, yay or nay ?

with it on I can feel the brake pulsing on/off quite hard (and worse, slowly, so it seems quite primitive compared to modern systems), especially if the F/R balance is bad

ABS in the Merc is much worse/slower than no ABS.
In my experience it will only work properly once and is then next to useless Grin

It's pretty good in the BMW and very good in the Ford (as I don't think they modelled in any factors beyond ABS:Y/N in that).
I'm convinced the Merc and BM simulate heat build up in the system which is why they both get worse if you over trigger them.

Thanks Tim

I'll use that to explain my being tortoise like last time out  laugh

Yesterday I also found a bad setting on my wheel software which explains some other problems I had with feeling the car - now AC is much more like it used to be many moons ago, so perhaps I can make some progress and find that missing speed (or maybe I just got old and slow Shocked)...

I am very sorry Syd for spoiling your race.
Got severely distracted just before braking point and tried to miss you both.
Had to leave mid-race.

My apologies once more.

Yet again, my teammate's setup (or his cats') was a masterpiece and, despite the lack of practice, I was soon matching pace for the top of the leaderboard.
Video of the qualy here: https://youtu.be/4Hpsu0JDK1M
Qualy started well. Following Tim on the outlap, I went for Softs (quite tricky on the Sierra) and delivered a low 1:08's which should grant a place on the first two lines in the grid. Maxime didn't took long to improve it and, to our surprise (considering practice times), Matteo put together a great lap relegating me to 3rd in the grid. Softs were heating up too quickly so I got a couple of times into pit to start afresh. In the final stint and with 5 mins left, I came out after Matteo and we did a couple of very fast laps and I grabbed a fantastic pole (SB time in this track with the DTMs  thumbup2). Not a bad way of returning after missing Mine.
Race 1 video here: https://youtu.be/2bR2bdqgcv0
Starting the race, Matteo and his Alfa's AWD blasted into P1, closely followed by me (and Maxime in 3rd). And with that move, the hostilities started. The Sierra's were doing very well in this track and Matteo perhaps was feeling the pressure at the end of the 2nd lap, making a couple of small mistakes in the final turns that allowed me to overtake. He immediately inverted terms and pushed hard in the first turns of the following lap but I managed to keep composure and sort of secured P1 from his attacks... Until Maxime went through and began the hostilities within the team  2guns
If it wasn't easy to follow my car on this track (Maxime's ditto) it was even more difficult being followed by him. He mounted a brutal attack until the end of the race reaching the climax in the hairpin before the final right turns on the final lap...  Thank goodness we didn't lose the cars and kept a great P1&P2 in the race...
The very intense race 1 and a tiring last few days outside the track took a toll on the second race  wheelchair and, despite a great start and lead for most of the race, I could only finish in P2 after the tremendous drive from Maxime. We are making a great team (The Sierra boys XD ) with the Ford.

My replay https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v6o5-LFdscL05Fu0ZZXi0HfU36dPyG5F/view?usp=sharing

Pure fun in both races! I have the regret of not being able to put more than 20 horrible laps before the race, so my defense was like a "wall of butter"  Grin Grin
This was surely the "Land of Sierra", so after they were ahead of me the only chance was that of watching the hostilities going on until the end of the race. Jos' brutal defence against Maxime at some point let me in 2nd position again. But Maxime was in a Clubber Lang racing mood yesterday, so my wall of butter melted almost immediately  Cheesy

Sweating like a fountain I started race 2, without being able to pass both Sierras before T1 this time. However I tried my best to defend from Maxime until we had a contact at the braking of the bend "Sachs kurve". After watching the replay I'm sure that you did the right thing waiting for me, cause your left side wasn't absolutely free and you turned on me. However, as I said yesterday I appreciated a lot your patience Wink It was well rewarded with a superb comeback on Jos, that was drinking a daiquiri dancing with the maracas in his hands all alone in front with the victory in his pocket  Tongue Grin
It was a pity when Tim's car spun halfway through the race, as I was gaining something and a good duel would have probably started soon. After your mistake I paraded a bit with my fellow MAlfioso Fabri until the checkered flag, even if he was trying to put me some pressure with his usual "game of lights" flashing me during the lap Cheesy Cheesy. It was almost working after a couple of races like this!

Well done to the Sierra boys!

See you for the next Wink

Qualif : I was quite happy with my laptime and needed to preserve my left arm for the races so kept the rest of the time watching.

R1 : It was a tough one. Matteo had easily taken the best at the start, then it was a sandwich party between Jos and Matteo for most of the time. Very uncomfortable to stay in such a situation. ^^ At a time I thought I could open a door at T2 with a bit of luck but Jos told  nono and he was true that I was a bit over-optimistic. Matteo took the opportunity to retake the 2nd position. Unfortunately he did a mistake later at T4 and I was back to later chase Jos.
Couldn't find a way to pass my teammate and we got a couple of scary moments near the end of the race but at that time it was a tad less dangerous as we had created a bit of gap. Probably Matteo was starting to suffer from his tyres.

R2 : Sorry Matteo for the contact, I wasn't expecting you to have a front wheel at the high of my rear ones once my braking point was reached. Then It's mostly a problem of lines : mine is using quite some trail braking at this T6, so that my braking line goes toward the apex since my braking point. Really sorry, unfortunately it cost you a bit of time, enough for Tim to grasp the opportunity. I didn't want to wait for you in the esses, so waited to be into the S/F line to back up. After that I thought my race was nearly finished, but Ford's God asked me to quit. I was happy to recover the 2nd position after two overtakes on Matteo and Tim (sorry Tim for our slight contact at T4 but it looks to me on the replay that you had the needed room at the apex, hoping you feel the same), and then realised I might even give Jos a bit of worries once again. At a time I dived at T2 in a quite brave move and got P1.

Jos, I think you posted the same vid twice. Wink  whistling
