Part 1:
Jari makes a mistake exiting Sachskurve which gives Stefan a run on him approaching Elfkurve.
Stefan moves to the inside and gets sufficient overlap (slightly over half a car length in this instance) and Jari then turns right directly into Stefan resulting in contact.

Both cars loose control which results in them exiting the final turn at the same time and another incident; to be detailed in Part 2.

In this instance Jari clearly turned into Stefans car causing contact.

Drivers should pay careful attention to the stock proximity app and/or Helicorsa if they are off pace and know they are around traffic as the car/s behind will take advantage of any loss of pace if they can.

I would normally encourage any re-dressing of position to NOT occur mid corner, but as result of part 2 of this incident it is very hard to determine Jari's intention after the contact.

Server replay time: 269s

Part 2:
Following the contact at Elfkurve both Jari and Stefan were out of shape entering the final turn (Opalkurve).
Jari was infront but due to running over the large circular kerbing on the outside was much slower, this allowed Stefan who was on the correct racing line to pass cleanly in the inside of the corner.
Exiting the corner Stefan moved across onto the racing line, however he was not fully clear of Jari at this point which resulted in Jari's front bumper clipping the rear of Stefan's bumper - spinning Stefan into the wall.

Jari was on the left hand edge of the track and driving straight at the time of contact.
He was also travelling slower than Stefan at this point so Stefan would have been fully ahead before the S/F line and the braking zone for T1, which would redress the earlier incident - whether intentionally or not.

As the intention to redress the 1st incident is impossible to tell due to the subsequent contact, the overall penalty is being determined based on the outcome of this 2nd contact.

In this part of the incident the fault actually lies with Stefan for moving across before he was clear when entering the Start/Finish straight.
After that contact Jari pulled over and waited until Stefan had got under way again and was ahead - placing himself very much last.

Jari's redress of the spin - which in this case was not really attributable to him - and the time lost as a result is a sufficient penalty of itself.

Both instances were caused by a lack of awareness regarding opponents cars - drivers should be certain it is safe to move over before doing so.

Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 138s

After travelling through T1 alongside SRW and having some light door to door contact after hitting the inside kurbs, Kimi is slow exiting and finds himself sliding to the far right of the circuit.
This allows Stefan to pass cleanly to Kimi's left on the run to T2.

As SRW is returning to the track on the left and travelling slower, Stefan positions himself towards the centre of the track for his manoeuvrer.

After recovering from his slide to the right, kimi moves back across towards the left and drives straight into Stefan, who himself is moving slightly left under braking having realised he won't catch SRW in time.

Stefan's Car was visible in Kimi's mirrors as he moved left exiting T1 to make his pass, the arrow from the stock app clearly moved up alongside Kimi's car to the left while he was out of view and he was alongside and visible through the side window before the contact occurred. In Helicorsa the positions of the 3 cars were also very clear on the lead up to this incident.

After the incident Kimi did not wait for Stefan or re-dress the contact.

When a driver makes a mistake and/or ends up off line for any reason they do not have a right to just drive straight back onto the racing line.

As the fault is clear in this instance and the place was not re-dressed the full penalty of 2 positions is applied.

It is strongly recommended that Helicorsa is used by drivers as it massively increases the situational awareness of it's users (It should be noted that this sort of incident is much rarer in ACC when away from public servers as that has a built in equivalent).

Server replay time: 284s

Approaching T2 Kimi has braked on time but missed his turn in point and run wide leaving a car width to his right on the inside. Stefan has braked on time and makes the apex which allows him to turn inside Kimi.

Kimi is continuing to slow in an attempt to turn down onto the apex when contact between himself and Stefan occurs.

The racing rules are very clear on mistakes of this nature:
"If the driver ahead runs wide and provides an opportunity for the following driver to get alongside, both drivers are responsible for leaving each other racing room."
This can be found at the top of the following link :https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3349.msg65156#msg65156

As Stefan was under full control and would have made the corner, the fault in this contact is not his, he was under no obligation to slow or redress as a result.

For future reference for correct procedure; on the same lap and the same corner, Matteo and Maxime find themselves in the same situation - Matteo out-brakes himself and misses his turn in point. He recognises his mistake and leaves room for Maxime on the inside who is already moving to take advantage.
No contact or even significant slowing of the opponents occurs as a result.

I was happy to recover the 2nd position after two overtakes on Matteo and Tim (sorry Tim for our slight contact at T4 but it looks to me on the replay that you had the needed room at the apex, hoping you feel the same)

No worries - it's touring cars!
I'll be honest the only contact I remember is from Matteo so yours must have been pretty slight Grin

I'll watch the (full) replays at some point if I have time, but it's the opening 2 rounds of Ozy touring cars this weekend at Bathurst so I might not get time Cool

Finally had time to deal with the reports - you lot gave me a few hours of work you buggers! hammer

All of the instances here can be argued to have occurred due to a lack of situational awareness, if you don't already have Helicorsa please consider doing so.
It may not be all that realistic (Neither are the spotter comments from crew chief though if we're talking road racing), but in the game - especially on a monitor - we are missing a huge and important part of our awareness of what's going on and this helps to fill that gap. Smiley

Avus was a rear end shunt caused by a group of cars slowing unexpectedly though?
The incidents are totally different. Lorenzo was even penalised for it.

Had he got on the brakes at Avus as soon as it was clear your car was slowing but still hit you (which he would, just as yourself and the other drivers couldn't avoid hitting each other) then that would also have been a racing incident too as he would have done everything possible to try and avoid you.

Unless you're talking about an incident you didn't report in which case I haven't seen it.
