Season 38 1965F1 – Round 2 – Works - Cadwell Park

Cadwell Park is a much loved racing circuit in Lincolnshire in Eastern England.
In 1926 Mr. Mansfield Wilkinson bought a part of the old Cadwell Hall country estate adjacent to his farm. His sons, Charles and Christopher, started to race each other around the gravel drives on their motorbikes. The track was improved, widened and lengthened over the years to become what it is today. The names of the Wilkinsons live on in the names of some corners. The track is used more for motorbike racing rather than modern high powered car racing, because of its narrowness and lack of run off areas in places.

Freeze for me during the race  Sad
What a fun track! Qualy was surprisingly good, taking the pole. Then dropped to 3rd at the start and soon went up to 2nd after Evil went off the track.
After that, a nice chase trying to follow and overtake Tristan, but in this track it seems possible only if the car in front of you makes a mistake. By the way, apologies to Tristan for the tap on lap 10, I guess. Ididn't think my car was so close to you, but the game made us touch. Did the shift-r and waited for you to take the lead. Sorry again.

After a few laps, freeze in T1. A disappointing end for a fun race in a fun track. Hope to have more luck in the next one

Cookie - why did you fight me for that corner? You'd already pushed me wide as you rejoined, so I was always going to win it with the inside line and higher speed... It didn't need to end your race, you could have Shift + Rd...

I seem to have a setup top frustrate those behind me - I was so slow in the last third of the track, but I had the grunt to pull away coming out the last corner, and keep people behind me for another lap - I bet you all loved that :-). I lost concentration for a couple of laps and slipped all over the place and totally lost position - it was only the fear of being lapped towards the end that seemed to get me to focus again. Fun overall though.

Cadwell is a great wee place, been to British Superbike races there - after the race all the local villagers stand in the streets as the bikers leave and wave to them - a real party atmosphere, very friendly... and there might be a wheelie or two, and some serious overrevving to keep them entertained...

There are resets for Works driver too? I am so used to no reset available that I retired when my clutch broke  Sad
Anyway I was unprepared to this race, noone decent lap in Q and last spot on the grid, I could only hope for a regular pace, but...

There are resets for Works driver too?
Yes, this is a relaxed series with minimal rules. An opportunity to have fun on a Tuesday evening  Smiley

In case you didn't know, the rules for each series are always published above the championship tables. So the easiest way to check is to click on the appropriate link in the series box at the top of this page. In this case S3865F1. We've only split into 2 servers because of the number of drivers, not because the rules are different, they are the same in this case.

Sorry if it is a bit confusing, it is for me too sometimes. I find a quick check before the race is always a good idea.

Yep Phil, I know, it wasn't intended as a critic. Anyway in Series page there isn't any word about resets, I have found it in this race post that I hadn't read well when I red it for the race pw. Plus I confused this series with OW 65 last race where I had to retire too for a crash... Roll Eyes

 Smiley Good morning all

Well done Tristan, Evil and Mike.

Fuel oil reset before the last lap, I thought stupidly that the race was doing 28 laps Huh??
I lost 2 places to finish 5, it's a shame because I had better speed after finally having understood some passage of the circuit, without several stupid errors I could have been better placed.
Well done everyone, great fun on 65.

Thanks to Admins  Wink

Thanks, but the placing was through bad luck of others as much as myself, Phil. I tapped Cookie at T1, sorry I didn't expect you to lift off, that lead to a Shift-R and then a long lonely chase with two more self inflicted trips to the scenery on the way. Had a nice couple of laps dicing with Arf after his incident, but Alain and I were doing similar lap times so, he would have got 3rd but for his fuel probs, I was carrying 12 gals just to be sure, and forgot to check at the end how much was left, silly me.

Yes at Cadwell you need to rely on the guy in front getting excited and losing his line.

Anyway, I'll d/l Philip Island and see what it is like, looking forward to the next race  Wink

Grats to Tris and commiserations to those who did not make to the finish.

My race started well when I got past Raoni and tucked in behind Tristan. I was caught out on lap 1 when Tris slowed where I did not expect him to and I had to take to the grass to avoid a collision ( and a penalty  Roll Eyes ). That dropped me almost to the back of the field and my chances did not look good on a track where passing is almost impossible no matter how fast you might be.

The rest of the race was all about controlling frustration, as I caught cars easily but then had to wait and watch for a mistake whilst sitting as close as I dared in order to be able to take the chance when it came. There were several "squeaky bum" moments when the car I was following closely had a wobble, or braked, where I wanted to carry my speed.
Slowly I climbed the places and after many laps battling with various drivers I found myself in 2nd spot, but with Tristan almost 800mtrs ahead and only 3-4 laps left to run I backed off and ran carefully to the flag.

Nice to see Mike Beattie back in GPL and not looking too rusty after his lay-off  Wink

Think I was one of the cars. Thank you for your patience behind me.  Evil
