Season 38 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 1 – Privateers - Oakes Field

This race announcement is for the PRIVATEERS

The first race in the 1955 Grand Prix series sees us taking a boat to Nassau in the Bahamas. The first Nassau Trophy Road Races meeting for Sports Cars was held in 1954 on the Windsor Field Course. For 1957, the meeting was moved to another airfield location, the 5 mile Oakes Course, which was closer to the main population areas on the island. The new course, despite being quite bumpy in places, was relatively well-received, though there were a number of close shaves near the pits as it was too close to the racing line. To combat this, the race direction of the track was changed to clockwise in 1958. The circuit was also shortened to 4.5 miles by cutting out the original Blackbeard's Bend and Ecky's Twist, whilst a new left-right-left corner combination was built to connect the Sassoon Straight and Bethell's Pass, cutting out the tight hairpin which had previously taken the cars off the runway. Due to much needed track repairs and the lack of additional funding by the Bahamian government, as well as competition from more races running in December, the event was discontinued after the 1966 meeting. It is the clockwise 4.5 mile Oakes Course that we will be using for tonight's race.

Happy to see this separate thread here for Am's, to prevent confusion.  Some advice for new drivers - if you see these words . . . .  (you are a first reserve in Works) . . . .  together with the race password, stay with the Amateur race.  Password is good.

Igor shows both races running off the same address.  This prevents me from joining the Server. Undecided

You need to specify the appropriate connection port after the IP address if connecting directly.
For UKGPL05 (Privateers):  86.6.125.152:32666

Thanks Dave!  I am via IP, and tried that, but did not erase all and start again.  Privateers server has now disappeared from Igor here.

Privateers server has now disappeared from Igor here.

Ah so it has.  When I last looked, there were approx 7-8 drivers on each server.
If there are server issues, I expect Phil is busy with preparing/starting the Works race.

I could offer to stand up UKGPL10 for privateers,  but it's getting late / short sesstion details may not be found in time by all entrants.

Ah good news!  In that case, sounds as thouth the server is still running (although not visible in iGOR now)  & direct connection is possible.

I want to race with the Maserati but online was with only 4 gears,so i have chosen the Conny(one of the 4 gears).
Next race i want to use the Lancia but i want to test the work server before to check the gears than i join the privaters.
Is only to understand if the server have an influence. The last season was without this problem in all the races.
With the 67 i have avoided the cars with 6 gears(normally have problem) but with 55 don't exist a car with 6 gears and the 5th have always worked.

I doubt it, but I'll set the Works server up tomorrow for a test session.

Couldn't understand the issues with the server "no iGor " so after fumbling around for an age waiting for the race list to update I had a brainwave and decided to try direct connection , each time I tried to connect the password was bad ! Thinking it was my typo I tried a few times then back and forth to UKGPL to check , it took and age to twig the colon: instead of the usual dot  Roll Eyes

Managed to join with about 8 mins of qually to go , just long enough to fuel up and get sorted . All in vein, as my race lasted about 2 laps before the engine went POP .

I cant say I was too miffed because I was freezing me nuts off up in the loft and glad to get back to thaw out and watch the footy  Smiley

Had similar connection problems with the 65's Watkins race and just managed to join with seconds to go to the start then ran out of go juice halfway through the race (had no time to check the tank before joining )

Don't want to sound as if I'm complaining but I think this could do with sorting before too long .

Transporter problems made my arrival at the track late, where it emerged that some fiend had repainted my car overnight.  This was not all bad, as I took the lead on the 1st lap.  But then discovered some fiend had also removed the brakes!  Which meant from 1st, to 4th, to 7th - the Vanwall had more go, than stop.

I realized the best speed would be had, by bumping the car ahead on the straights, and leaning on it's tail into the corners.  But then realized, without a pre-arrangement, there'd most likely be a re-arrangement of bodywork.

After learning how not to brake, I was able to give David a lively race to the finish.  For his helping to get my transporter sorted, I buzzed all around him in racing blue.  And managed to clip the markers at the final corner, to let him keep his well run 3rd place.  Good race! Grin
