Moderator's Report

A very hard fought race at the front with first 3 cars crossing the finish line within 0.5 seconds.
All stop & go's were complied with.
Commiserations to Tom who completed almost the whole race but took an illegal Reset near the end and must be excluded from the final result.

Server replay time: 0h40m26s

Tristan makes a pass on Raoni into the last corner. Tristan's car is ahead although he has to brake very hard. Raoni has the wider line and must turn into the corner. He runs into the back of Tristan on the apex. The overtake was rather risky. Tristan had completed the pass but was blocking the line that Raoni had committed to.
The incident has been reviewed by the mod team & called as a Racing Incident.

Server replay time: 0h47m26s

Similar to the earlier incident between Tristan and Raoni but the contact was caused by warp.

Server replay time: 0h48m00s

Tom Johnson takes a reset. Pro drivers are not permitted to take a reset in this series.

Season 38 MIXED OPEN WHEEL – Round 3 –  Spa-Francorchamps

For this round, the MixOW entrants will drive the 1967 F2 cars at the Spa67 GPL track which is NOT the original Papyrus version.
In the early 1920s, motor racing began to be held on the public roads between Francorchamps, Malmédy and Stavelot in Belgium, about 50 miles west of the (still to be proposed) Nürburgring in Germany. The Spa track was enlarged in 1951 to become the layout used here. This track hosted the Belgium Grand Prix until 1970, when the F1 drivers association declared that it was too dangerously fast. Part of the old track was used to create a shorter lap in 1979 and the F1 cars returned in 1983. Eau Rouge is one of the most famous parts of any track in the world. The stream gets its name from the presence of iron oxide deposits giving it a reddish colour. The track crosses the Eau Rouge again halfway around the lap, on a bridge seen as a low parapet either side of the track just at the start of the Stavelot corner.

This is the third race in the Mixed Open Wheel series in which we will be using cars from 1965, 1966, 1967 (F2), 1968 and 1969. Drivers entering this series must select a manufacturer group and keep to that group for the whole season. Where more than one chassis is allocated to the group you can select any car. Pro / Works standard drivers cannot use Groups 7, 8 or 9.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Full Driver lists and divisional rules including manufacturer groups can be found here Championship Standings page

With the addition of Billy Nobrakes and Tom Johnson since the last MixOW race, there's a chance that the grid may be a full one. On these occasions we ask that those drivers that signed up expecting to attend less than 75% of the races (reserves) to remove themselves from the server with 35 minutes to go and not rejoin until 30 minutes to go to let any full time drivers in. I've added this to the race announcement:

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Reserve drivers for this series are GregT, Raoni Frizzo, uli, leomenegucci and Tom Johnson.

Disaster. I was pleased with my qualifying time but then I made a complete hash of Les Combes bumping in the back of a sliding Lotus (I think). Sorry if I caused you any pain. That shunt plonked me on the bank on the left hand side. I though that I was going to have to do a Shift-R but I did manage to reverse off and join the back of the race. I then picked up a few places again before sliding off Burnenville just through pushing too hard unnecessarily. That required the use of my one Shift-R. A few laps later my engine blew! Aaarghh.

Hi all,

I was having a great time until I got my wheel stuck in a fence on lap 11, whoops.
I was having a really good race with people all the way round and I think I performed much better than I did in the last one.  Grin

See you at Silverstone.

well that eases my bad past with Spa.. tonight it went well and I managed to finish... last but I finished .... remember, to first finish last, you first have to come last  laugh

had some good racing with Alain and Bernie..  You may have noticed Bernbie I accepted your kind invitation and I did follow you home tonight. not for 3rd sadly but for a finish. and really enjoyed it. Grin

hey Will, good stuff tonight young man. you were going very well and quite able to carry enough speed to overtake me which you managed a few times. And very cleanly I might add. Wink
at all other times we had a good dice and you never ever tried to get the better of me anywhere dangerous at all at Spa althugh we were racing close and you were far faster than me... and this place has some dangerous places to overtake.  Bloody nice driving mate. !!!  Cool

only real problem for me was top end speed. I had a really nice stable setup, but no matter what I did with my gearing 163MPH was tops for me on the straights, I jumped behind Bernie as often as possible and collected a draft, taking me to 169/170 MPH but as soon as i was out of the tow I just couldnt keep up.

but as always, thoroughly enjoyed it tonight and the old dog learnt a few new tricks as always... its a good view from the back.  Wink

thanks Mods, and well done to the top 3 and all finishers.

Paul V.

Grats Will, practice makes perfect. You've got a good coach on hand with your dad. He is getting quicker Wink

Unfortunately the F2 Ferrari is a bit of a snail. But you've got greats cars in the other mods, it is what makes this Mixed Series interesting. Top speed in my Protos without a tow was 170mph.  Quite a difference!

I think I"ll have to clean my G27 crankset and especially my throttle pedal.
Some laps, I was running at 267 km/h and sometimes only at 220 km/h on the long straight before Masta.

Bravo Tristan and the podium.

Nice driving, Will !

Just getting into he action and looking forward to a good race when a real life domestic intervention occurred as I negotiated Eau Rouge on Lap 2.

I can now offer this nugget of advice... "do not take your eyes off the road and your line whilst exiting Eau Rouge at max veloce"   it does not end well!!!

Grat to all finishers  Wink

Good to be back on the GPL circuit now I have sorted out my hardware problems. The new wheel behaves rather differently to the old one & I am gradually tweaking my set up.
Most of my races at Spa67 end in a high speed crash so I was happy to get to the finish. I did have one incident during a battle with Fulvio - entirely my fault for missing my braking point. I can go home with a top 10 finish.

I watched replay Billy and I'm sorry that you were caught off by my early braking coming to Stavelot. I was inside after the pass and I went very cautious.
I forgot to check what happened with Leo later though  wheelchair
When we touched passed Stavelot I did a nice trip in the air and with my surprise I landed on the track and could continue, Leo had less luck though  Sad

I wasn't so lucky mate  Cheesy

I ended up in the bushes and had already a reset after a misfiring engine. I should have waited for the next straight to pass. Good you could continue  angel

Don't know about this mechanical failure. I had a good long final gear that alowed me great final speed and was short shifting before 5th. Probably I just abused the downshifts. stupid
