Finding a reliable race setup for the mediums was a struggle, I had to max out the power diff and stiffen the dampers to get any kind of traction out of slower corners. I see others also struggled in turn 15.

After avoiding the mess at the start I picked up a few positions from frex and John.
After lap 1 I just stuck it on map 3 and settled in for an extended hotlapping session. Geoff and John had issues so I eventually found myself alone in 2nd trying to hold the gap to frex. Jos was in control at the end and while I was doing my fastest laps I couldn't get close to him.

Congrats to Jos and frex.

Is "F1 1990" the right classification for these cars or do they belong to a broader set of years?

They can't say exactly I guess because of licencing, but they are supposed to "1990's style"

Official development notes refer to fictional cars based on F1 designs racing in the early nineties. Raceroom store lists them as specifically from the year 1990. Either is probably fine.

I have to thank Birger for flagging up the 30 laps race length just before the start. Wasn't sure that my setup would last that kind of distance so I went very conservative with engine map (map 3) and other last minute tweaks to just try and make the car as drivable as possible. That probably backfired on me however as although it was very safe, it was also full of understeer and very slow in the middle sector. This got worse as the race went on as the grip was so much biased towards the rear that the rear tyres hardly wore at all, whereas the fronts were wearing fast.

Shame I mis-shifted again early on (similar to last race) and lost touch with the leaders, but Geoff re-appeared in front or behind me several times to keep me entertained  Grin Sorry for holding you up so often Geoff, especially through that middle sector, and sorry for the last corner - didn't realise we touched there, hope that was ok. Another lap (or even just one more corner!) and you would have had me.

Congrats Jos and Toni.

I'm guessing that some of you may recall Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix From 1991

That was a bit early for me, but I spent many happy hours with GP3 and GP4 around 20 years ago! That's when PC games would come with thick printed manuals that I would pore over for hours.. Good times.

Fun fact: A few of the AI driver names in the Raceroom Formula 90 cars are tributes to real-life drivers (mostly hill-climbers), but the majority of the AI names are lifted straight from the original Grand Prix game as a tribute to Geoff Crammond. The Formula RR2 cars have them too.

Interesting to read the differing engine maps used. I used map 1 in the race with medium tyres & map 3 in qually with soft tyres. With my setup more powerful maps seemed almost undrivable, but judging by my race performance that was probably more to do with the inept driving than anything else. Roll Eyes

Never had Crammond's Grand Prix original version, GP2 was the first I had, still got it in a box in the cupboard.

Not F1 but this was the first proper racing game I played, also by Geoff Crammond

One can relate!  I was always hoping to find an extra few tenths in the circuit description. Cheesy

The rest of this series should be more suited to these cars, Spa is an absolute hoot  Grin
