Perhaps I should clarify what happened from my viewpoint.

A couple of seconds before my exit I had a sudden drop in frame rate ( down to 25-30fps? ).  I missed my turn in and was expecting the corner to be difficult, but I never got to find out because I had a CDT.

No screen freeze, no Igor, just straight back to Windows desktop....race over.

Axel's timings from the server are interesting. AFAIK Phil was close behind just before my exit. But it is strange that he appears to pass me as I vanished, but then despite not being there I manged to overtake him??...bizarre Huh

  • Screen Freeze - GPL stops mid race, the graphics appear frozen and the sound turns into a buzz that increases in volume and pitch. The only way to get out of this situation is to use Task Manager to kill GPL or to do a hardware reset (i.e power off the PC).

Me too, Phil, am very disappointed for you.
for your analysis, it is indeed the 2nd remark: screen freeze.
that's exactly it.
that's exactly all the symptoms you describe. There's nothing else.

once in a while I can accept. But 9 times out of 10, no.   Angry

I'm going to try the pete solution at the next race, and also for the others, and we'll see what happens...

Yes bizarre  - but you must have had a lag that was longer than this second! As the server tries to predict your moves itself - even when you were gone...

PS

real Freezes  are track related only! Your wheel taps in an infinite gap in the tarmac as he needs an reaction of the tyres ...
It expects 60 times per second a feedback from the underground.

I'm pretty sure my problem was a network issue, quite possibly caused by me having UKGPL04 and UKGPL05 both running at the same time I was racing on UKGPL08. I can't find any evidence in the server logs etc but having 3 machines running different races through the same router is probably not a good idea. It wasn't intentional, I'd simply forgotten UKGPL04 and UKGPL05 were running, I won't do that again.

As far as turning off anisotropic filtering is concerned, I won't be doing that because I don't think my problem was graphics related. However, I did try it for interest. I found the kerbs more pixelated without anisotropic filtering. The GPU is doing less work with the filtering off so maybe that will help with Screen Freeze in situations where the GPU is struggling?

Yes Phil, imo you were taken out by the disco of Clive - I doubt that 04 + 05 had anything to do with it,
but when I have a race server running I do not allow any net traffic on any other PC too.
TBH the data volume of a client is tiny and even a full server needs only 1-2% of the possible net load. I think Dave does monitor such things...

AF was allways maximum here since we got GEM+ and GPUs like Geforce 2 and 4 were en vogue... Roll Eyes

Yes, the traffic involved seems pretty light; especially if the servers are otherwise idle/no connections.

Looking back at the recent Monza67 privateers race (21-Feb, UKGPL_10).
I see 16 driver sessions, outbound traffic from the server is approx 1.1Mbps, inbound 210kbps.
(This also includes Teamspeak & local monitoring traffic for related servers).

Cheers,
Dave.

Hi Philippe, where have you installed GPL and GEM? If inside C/Program/86x  try to unistall everything, included GEM and reinstall both outside Programx86 with administrator rights; create a new folder in C for example, or in D if you have multiple partitions of HD. May sound strange but  Win10 it's a nightmare and files ( especially third party ones like GPL mods or GEM) could get corrupted, or simply, even if you have full administrator rights, it's not true and for example GPL could not open a .dll because in reality has no full permission and then freezes. Turn off any updtates of win10 ( you can only delay by 7 days) on race weekend, win10 updates kill literally your connection and CPU resources , and turn off the chat when driving. Have you tried to enter the race via GPL multiplayer instead of IGOR? Do you have and Invidia GPU? maybe the problem could be related to some settings. I don't think ( but you can try) it's antialiasing fault, i have a GTX 950M on my 2017 laptot and i can run whit full antialiasing and anisotropic filter a 60 fps, i just reduced the detail to 35 inside GPL.
