Season 38 - SC67 - Lola vs Ferrari Cup – Round 4 - Dundrod

WIP

Round 4 of the S38 Lola vs Ferrari Cup takes us to Dundrod in Northern Ireland.
The Dundrod Circuit was first used in 1950 for the RAC Tourist Trophy Sports Car race and for the Formula One (non-championship) Ulster Trophy. The Sports Cars raced again in 1951 through to 1955 and the Formula 1 cars from 1951 through to 1953. The circuit comprised public roads closed for racing including a section of the B38 Hannahstown Road between Glenavy and Hannahstown, a section of the B101 Leathemstown Road from Leathemstown Corner to Dundrod and a section of the B153 Quarterland/Tornagrough Road from Cochranstown to the road junction of the B38 Upper Springsfield Road/Hannahstown Road at the Lindsay Hairpin. The last car race held on the Dundrod Circuit was the 1955 RAC Tourist Trophy race in which sadly there were 3 fatalities. The narrow, high-speed nature of the circuit, meant it was just too dangerous and since then it has only been used for motorcycle racing.

In view of the fact that fatal accidents can easily occur on this track, the shift+r is not limited

Please check the Season 38 details regarding rules and the Lola vs Ferrari Cup pages in particular.
In order to add an element of realism, and to hopefully reduce the possibility of rear-end incidents, the brake light patch will be used  eek

Handicapping

"Works" drivers will carry extra weight in form of 10 gallons of race fuel (to remain in the tank after the race). No limit in quali!
Drivers are expected to behave in a fair and gentlemanly fashion and declare how much fuel they have left after the race.

In order to ensure there will be 10 gallons of fuel left after the race, the minimum race fuel load for Works is expected to be:

  • Lola T70 = 27 gallons (~102 litres)
  • Ferrari P4 = 28 gallons (~106 litres)

resets will be allowed (there is no need to carry out a Stop and Go in the pit lane if you make a Shift-R).

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.
Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please restrict chat to emergency messages only including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Clive the main thing is the name of the track directory Dundrod (NOT Dund1950)

Jim Pearson gave a graphical update at last Xmas but track is same.

I will start the server now

Yes that's right Clive. We use the earlier version with the Leathamstown bridge for the 1955 cars. Not just because it is more authentic for that period but also because without the bridge to slow the cars down, Deer's Leap would be insane in the 55 cars. The 1965 layout is also prettier after Jim's amazing update.

The update is excellent and transforms the whole track, very green and realistic everyone should make sure that they have it installed.

I only did a few laps when I discovered the "missing bridge" section, just in case I was practising the wrong version, but the biggest challenge  I discovered is that jump in these big heavy cars.
In the 65's and F2's it is almost flat out, but certainly NOT in the GT's lol, at least not with the setup that I was using yesterday. I think that the suspension needs to be stiff enough to withstand the landing, but not so hard that it makes the car too twitchy for the rest of the lap............some testing still required.

Hello, hate to be a pain but have you checked the minimum ping on the server has been bumped up for us far-away types?

Mark this will be no problem! I will not activate the ping!

Test it, it's running

You lot are worrying about missing bridges, trees and pings. I'm more worried about the narrow grey line of tarmac which you have to keep the car on. It's hard enough in practice so goodness only knows what it's like to race on.
