Season 38 - SC67 - Lola vs Ferrari Cup – Round 6 - Brands Hatch

WIP

Round 6 of the S38 Lola vs Ferrari Cup sees us in Brands Hatch in Kent.
The first race to be held at Brands Hatch took place on 16th April 1950, it featured 500cc cars competing over a version of the "Indy" circuit (without Druids Hill Bend) in an anti-clockwise direction. During the 1950s the track was extended to include Druids Hill bend, Paddock Hill bend and the racing direction was changed to clockwise. It wasn't until 1960 that the full Grand Prix circuit was created. The British Grand Prix has been held at Brands Hatch on 12 occasions and the European Grand Prix has been held there twice.  The 1967 Grand Prix was won by Jack Brabham and the 1968 race by Jo Siffert driving a Brabham Repco BT19 and a Lotus-Cosworth 49B respectively.  There have also been numerous non-championship Formula 1 races most notably the Race of Champions in 1967 which was won by Dan Gurney in the Eagle-Weslake T1G.

Please check the Season 38 details regarding rules and the Lola vs Ferrari Cup pages in particular.
In order to add an element of realism, and to hopefully reduce the possibility of rear-end incidents, the brake light patch will be used  eek

Handicapping

"Works" drivers will carry extra weight in form of 10 gallons of race fuel (to remain in the tank after the race). No limit in quali!
Drivers are expected to behave in a fair and gentlemanly fashion and declare how much fuel they have left after the race.

In order to ensure there will be ~10 gallons of fuel left after the race, the minimum race fuel load for Works is expected to be:

  • Lola T70 = 28 gallons (~106 litres)
  • Ferrari P4 = 29 gallons (~110 litres)

2 x resets will be allowed there is no need to carry out a Stop and Go in the pit lane if you make a Shift-R.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.
Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please restrict chat to emergency messages only including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Cookie. So Sorry. No idea what happened. Half way down that straight a window popped up on my screen - just a small part of this website. Not even the whole page. Weird. It's as though the browser window took priority. I couldn't see where I was going for about 2 seconds, all controls froze and then was an almighty bang as the inevitable happened. So sorry for wrecking your evening. Once my car had stopped, GPL Window came back into focus and I could Shift-R.

GPL is full of surprises. I've NEVER had this happen before.

I managed to crawl my way back up and was having a great battle until I ended on the grass and on my side. No more SHIFT-R so it's another terrible race in the Sportscars. I love them but something always seems to happen on a Friday night. Axel, once again, I apologise. I'll make sure that no other windows are open on my computer next time.

Sad

Edit: Curses. I've just read that I was allowed 2 resets. Never mind. I was too angry to drive anyway after that second crash.

So is explained the sudden and strong brake.I was behind and surprised by the braking and also unable to avoid the strong touch.

Pete there seems something strange has happened
- I had also big flickering and a full black screen for some seconds at the end of the straight...

My car was behind the barrier and I did a s+r to come back on the road, but in the following corners again big flicker and so I retired.
Not your fault!

I had only strange flickers in quali entering Druids but did not think about it, but in race these became massive Shocked
I am researching tomorrow about what it is - maybe track!? allways flickering at same place!

Francesco, so sorry. I have fitted a large bouncy air-bag on the back of my Lola just in case this happens again.

There was fun to be had, throwing these lively cars around at Brands Hatch, but I hadn't the speed to put a dent in the grid.  To compensate, I was able to squeeze the motor too hard twice, early on.  Decided to park it.  No Championship hopes here - better to quit while behind, than face the blue flags ahead.

Stayed to watch some pit activity during the race.  Either a refuel, or an unforseen penalty for those whose rule reading is rusty?  And I shall expect a penalty for putting Doni into a spin at Druids, after a rear wheel tripped over a blade of grass.  I apologise for our brief panorama.

Highly polished performances from those out front. Superb technique!  There were tales of old, of front running cars purposely having leaky gearboxes, or pipelines, to improve their winning chances.  That must explain the front running polish all over my tyres!  Undecided

it seems to me that this track "brands hatch" has already caused problems in the past.
I think you should use another version.
I don't know what it is about this version, but I had read an article about it, on srmz or something. to check.

for me, another race without freeze, (7+1 = Cool  Grin

Phillippe the fixed track is not the problem,
Ginetto made a fix for the old version - what you can find at SRMZ. (= no bump at the pit exit Wink )

I tested this afternoon with a Gordini in Bremgarten and had the same flickers.
I found that my AA settings had been too low - after maximizing to 16x SS I had no more problems.
