Really dislike this track; those agonizingly slow and seemingly never ending hairpins are pure torture.  Picking a car presented a bit of a dilemma - with the self imposed Elan-ban by the aliens, they made anyone else contemplating using it look bad.  Picking something else would put me behind them as usual - unless they all showed up in Lotus Elites, but that would be a bit optimistic to hope for!  If the remainder of the field used Elans however, then I could potentially be last  Shocked   Thus kept the Elan ready until I had sized up the opposition, but preferred the Alpine.

Start went ok, but it was quickly clear that Matt was a real threat in his Healey.  After some close opening laps, he got a little out of shape entering the back straight, losing about 4 secs. Thought it would be a small breather, but was alarmed over the rate at which he was catching up again. It was clear that to keep my position, I would have to live up to my very best.  By setting new personal fastest laps - each lap - I could just about maintain the gap. That wasn't easy..  Shocked  Only towards the very end did the gap stretch a little, when his tyres went off faster than mine.

Grats to Geoffers on the win & Daz for the podium - and thanks to Matt for keeping me honest the entire race  Cool

Did myself no favours here by practising on the full layout, whoops.... oops

Then, could get nowhere near the stellar laps Geoffers was doing in quali, the gap was a rather worrying 1.6 seconds I think eek. However, I did some late tweaks that made the car corner rather better, and changed the gearing down so it was a little sharper around the lap, just didn't get to set a time. It still would have been a good bit off the pace Geoffers was setting though thumbup1.

Got a good jump off the line, but by the time turn 1 was hoving into braking point time, I was already off the tail of Geoffers, and being caught rapidly by Erling. This raised my suspicion level a little higher, and try as I might I just could do nothing about Geoffers and he streaked away. I am sorry if it ended up a little boring out there Geoff......Realised very quickly that 2nd was the best I could do, so just brought it home after trying too hard a couple of times and spinning.

Now, at the end of the race I had a look in the controls screen, and sure enough the brake was showing as dragging a small amount, bad enough to begin with, but also the throttle was not giving 100% either, more like 95. Jumped out of the game, made some adjustments, then went back in. Checked in controls, all now good it seemed, so jumped on and did a few laps to check. That seems to have done the trick, as the laptime was suddenly very different, so should be OK going forward. A bit frustrating, but that's racing right.... hammer thumbup2

Believe it or not, I didn't think I got the best out of the Alpine, I'm sure a bit more setup work would net another 0.5s. The car would initially turn well but understeer mid-corner, but I could not find a way to improve the mid-corner grip without making the car oversteery on both corner entry & exit, so had to put up with it.

So I was really not expecting to be so fast & it was one of those races where you just reel off the laps & have no excitement. Happy to win but it's more enjoyable if there is a battle.

Congrats to Daz & Erling on the podium.  clap clap
