Heh, quite fun considering i wasnt intending to race tonight.
Jumped into practise about 10 minutes before race start after watching a DVD of this years Le Mans race (gave me the taste for it !) and decided to give the throaty C5 Corvette a blast for the first time. (No Aston to choose :'( )
Felt comfy straight away in it and set regular 1:30's in my praccy and then repeated the feat in qually. Thought i had set a blinder but then quickly realised every other bugger was putting in 1:28's and 29's
I for some reason had assumed a 1:30 was a quick GT time
Only qualied a measly 22nd with a 1:30.4
Race start was pretty good, i seemed to have tons more traction out of the corners than the ballerina Lambos and was glued to the back of Lincescom for quite a few laps and had to take some close avoiding actions under braking.
Also made up a few places as others had off's and got to the giddy heights of 16th at one point (whoohoo
). But alas soon my tyres were overheating and the car was getting very unpredictable under braking as i hadnt had time to practise any race setups beforehand and i had to try and fight off the Lambos of Jon M (unusually) and Madd-Rip, failing in both cases, firstly to a rather cool move up the inside by the maestro Jon and then to some sloppy brake slide by myself to allow Madd through.
Started to catch Jan later on but then he had some terminal engine fire and dropped out and then i came across TT emerging from the pits
was thinking of having a nice little battle with him but he un-explicably waved me through with a flash of the lights and then came back at me a lap or two later
Didnt know whether to concede the place back or whether he was toying with me
So in true Mclaren fashion i kept the place
Amazing pace up front as usual. Enjoyed my few battles but was expecting to be amongst the action a bit more. If anyone hasnt installed it yet, go get the V8 soundpack, the Corvette sounds simply 'real' and is fantastic on every note, from the tickover to full screaming horses.
With a better setup, i could be enticed to drive this beast more often.
Congrats to Ruskus on the win.
