Season 38 FUN – CANM66 +71 Race – Hockenheim

WIP

To greet Easter 2021 - we are going to Hockenheim to have some fun with the big CanAms. The same cars raced here in the Interserie.
The track was originally called "Dreieckskurs" (triangle course) and was built in 1932 using roads in the forest as an alternative to the Wildpark-Circuit in Karlsruhe. The track was used for motorcycle racing and was expanded to be used as test track for Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union in 1936. In 1965, an updated version of Hockenheim circuit was built, which incorporated a new "Motodrom" stadium section. Two fast chicanes were added after Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident.  A small memorial was placed at the site of his accident near the first chicane. In order to improve safety even further, the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970.

Rolling Start!

Start procedure:
Overtaking is prohibited until the exit of curve T1 - Nordkurve!

Flagman gives the start.

The polesitter drives ahead with moderate speed and the others follow in a single line with safe distances.
At the exit of turn 1 the race is released.

I hadn't read the regs at all. I was at a loss this evening as the Groundhog Fun Race at Torino suffered from terrible server connections so Jani and I had to quit. I stumbled on this race on iGor with ten minutes left of practise. I needed a bit of magic so I jumped in a car with a name that seemed to promise it. These beasts are new to me so my intention was just to make up numbers, keep out of the way and drive some clean laps. I think I managed it. I took a gamble at a setup and went to the grid. These are great fun to drive and it's a pity that they don't come out of the garage more often.

Anyway, thanks one and all - my favourite "pick-up" race to date. Have a great Easter Weekend.

With the CA66 Doni hit me in T1,probably had not read the rule.Little bad the race was fun anyway. The CA71 start with the reduced screen and the default setup. Ok,after the qualy all adjiusted but in curve 1 comes the damn defect of my steerinwheel, all at left without possibility to regain the control.I will try another time.

Not only you Fran, a streak of bad luck has come my way.  Races not finished , and/or not even started! Cry

In 1966, I was cruising along behind Doni midrace, when Lasse zoomed up in our slipstream, to make a surprising mid-corner outside pass.  One small central mirror wasn't enough to see him there.  Some destructive squeezing.  Fun race so no problem here - keep racing Lasse.  My car needed re-tyreing.

Race 2, i watched our final qualifyer enter the Stadium.  Mistake!  I'm often thrown out, for watching from trackside without a ticket, or perhaps a track glitch I cannot cure.  So, looking for a bad luck cure.   Smiley

Freeze on tv camera while in motodrome is a well known problem also for previous version. Look for a camera update on SRMZ.

Thanks Axel. Good times. Had no mirrors in the Chapp but could hear Doni sneaking up pretty fast on the last lap. Got smoked. Grats podium. Sorry I missed the '71 race, the wife had other ideas....

Cheers,

Will

There have been several fixes and I have a pretty stable version - I uploaded it here: http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=14102&#entry156566

Thanks to Fulvio and Cookie  These twin Fun races start a little earlier than usual.  Have downloaded the track version above to test.

Tried the track fixes years ago, and even made new camera views myself, but no success.  Best I found was a Caballero track update, made in 2004.  Probably had better camera placement, and only sometimes thown out on my ear!   Huh

While at SRMZ, I noticed the new Dundrod track, by the same author.  More testing to do - it's a hard life but somene has to live it :  http://jrpearson.homestead.com/DundrodDownloads.html

Apologies to Fran in the CA66 race for the Lap01, T1 contact.  I lost track of where you were and thought I should follow the Chaparral that was directly ahead.  That didn't give you adequate room when you turned in.  Sorry.

Regardless, this and the CA71 race were real hoots.  Great fun!  I do have an issue with the AAR Lola not being considered as a 'works' ride.  It's easily in the class of the Surtrees Lola or factory M1B's.

TY for hosting!  Smiley

There have been several fixes and I have a pretty stable version -
Tested the Lachele Hockenheim graphics kindly provided - trackside problem fixed.  As I prefer the Caballero graphics, took the HOCKENHM.CAM from the fixed Laechele, and put it into the preferred track folder.  Trackside problem fixed!

On my computer, the only fix is to not look at the problem, by using T. Lachele track cams.  Cheesy
