Season 38 – 1967 F1 PRIVATEERS – Round 9 – Mount Panorama (Bathurst)

For the 9th race in the 1967 Grand Prix Works series,  we visit Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit Bathurst a motor racing track located in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia.
It is best known as the home of the Bathurst 12 Hour motor race, held each February, and the Bathurst 1000 motor race, held each October.
The track is 6.213 km (4 mi) long, and is technically a street circuit, as the circuit is a public road when no racing events are being run, and there are many residences which can only be accessed from the circuit.
The track is an unusual design by modern standards, with a 174-metre (570-foot) vertical difference between its highest and lowest points, and grades as steep as 1:6.13. From the start-finish line, the track can be viewed in three sections; the short pit straight and then a tight left turn into the long, steep Mountain straight; the tight, narrow section across the top of the mountain itself; and then the long, downhill section of Conrod Straight, and the turn back onto pit straight to complete the lap.

Another race down the toilet. Not sure how but I managed to mute the sound between end of qualifying & start of the race. I tried a couple of laps but my engine went sick on the start grid (second race in a row) & I found its really hard to manage the gear changes with no sound. After binning the car at the end of the 2nd lap I decided to retire. Might have got tangled up with whoever was running last (Albert /Sochenna?) as I was trying to hit shift / exit. Sorry if that caused you any delay.

This has happened to me a few times. I don't know what causes it but I think a mouse click sorts it out (might be a tap on the space bar, I can't remember).

I've certainly lost sound when driving in the past (years ago). I found the same thing - clicking a mouse button brought the sound back.  Suspected it was AV notification/similar generated in the background, stealing focus although GPL was otherwise still running fine/accepting control inputs.

Around L5 I noticed that Ricardo was behind me. I know that on a track like this he's going to be at least one second faster than I am, probably more, so I let him by on the next lap as we started the long straight. That put Eric behind me. Now Eric I can deal with sometimes, so I thought I'd make him show me what he had. I kept him in check by a second or two for the next ten laps, at which point he had a much better exit from the corner onto the long straight than I did. A few moments later I blew up the Ferrari's motor in a futile attempt to hold Eric off. He immediately overtook me and when I went into the pits for a stop-n-go, David R swept by me as well. I tried my best to reel at least David back in but with my full tank, that was going to be a hopeless task.

This is a tough track for me, especially the walls in the narrow canyon areas. Getting through a full race here without damage is an accomplishment, and I almost did it.  Smiley

Pepe,

I know you are a very good and safe driver but you did 2 bad rejoins on track just when I was coming.

The 1st one occured during qually when you left the pits right in front of me trying to do a good time for the grid.
the 2nd one was very dangerous, it occured during the 1st lap of the race when you went out at the corkscrew and rejoined the track. I almost had to stop the car to avoid contact in such a dangerous place.

Are you using (and looking at) Pribluda ?

This wasn't as easy as the numbers show. The most trouble I had was lapping backmarkers, only becouse they would spin in front of me in the mountain sections. The last one we even had a colision and the guardrail held me from running down the clif.

Phil was as constand driver as ever and made me keep concentration at a high the whole time.

As I blew a few engines during practice, I was very careful not to over rev the Cosworth, and by the last laps I was coasting and praying for it to last.

Note to one who is being laped, don't panic when you are being blue flagged, do your race line and in the next straight the faster car will find its way through.

If you're playing the sound through a TV\monitor using a HDMI cable, that could be another cause. I lost engine sound to start the first race of the Works season. It was happening offline occasionally. I started using my headphones plugged into the 7.5 mm jack on the motherboard and I haven't had a problem since. I managed to finish the Works race without sound but I was lucky and slow and stayed away from other cars to do it.

My story is one of hardship, and fortitude, or forthitude as I tried to cling to P4.  It comes in two halves, or duitudes [ not in Dictionary ).  Cheesy

Several years since I last raced in 1967.  Several pickup races at 36fps ran well, but this week, the Ukgpl training Server would not connect.  Finaly had to make a new install twice, and transfer a working player folder.  Then, with the correct combination of cersored magical words, "Success!"  How anyone new can ever get our Sim up and running, I know not! Huh

Onwards!  Car seemed slightly off on a full grid, but by mid-race, I'd hopes of clinging to a P4 unto race end.  Until there came a sudden black screen with unaffected sound, followed by - daylight restored with a reset, so pace car not needed!  Except, the car was now locked . . . . in 1st gear.  Hense, used spare fortitude to try to rennovate gearbox, but found magical words and fiddling to be ineffective.  Grumble!

The biggest hardship on this day, never before suffered in a League race by this Onliner, was Pribluda.  It had refused to unpatch.  I am not a Programmer, so had next carefully yanked out the Prib. specific files, and discovered, the Sim would not run without them!  Grumble!

At least 10 years since I last suffered a black screen while Online.  Buyer beware!  I must leave you brave 67 folk until another Season, and go seek a Gremlinitis jab. Undecided

Martin to get rid of pribluda just run the pribpatcher.exe in the gpl folder.

Prib changer and pribpatcher, were 1st things I tried!  I think the Sim. installer should come without Pribluda automatically installed.  At least, there should be instructions how to, displayed during installation.  But I suppose things are less tragic for the 99% who race only offline. Cry

Pribluda is a prime suspect, for the problems the Pros. suffered.  We have no experts, but I think it adds to any strain caused by signal fluctuation.

pribluda patches the gpl.exe, so you must run GEM+ first to get the gplc67.exe unpatched Wink
