Yeah it's difficult for close racing in these cars. In Porsche/ Alfa it was less dangerous.
@ Christian
The maker Jim Pearson said he has allready made the track much wider than it is, in the presentation thread.
I had done too much laps in the afternoon and lost concentration in lap 2...

@Cookie, It was my first race under linux ... Wink
Apart from the excessively long loading time of the track (much longer than under Win10) and disconnections, I find the image almost more beautiful than under w10 !! (despite the absence of fine adjustments as with Nvidia inspector ...!) The FFB was good (as much as my G27 allows!)

Do you know a solution to recover the shifter? because the pallets are not very natural !! (gplshift does not work nor Fairshift)
And can you tell me your settings to have the position of the pilots displayed in the middle of the screen?

I have G27 and shifter on Linux. All you need is a Leo Bodnar adaptor. Costs about £20. Works a treat although reverse doesn't work.

Is it just an adapter?  Is there any settings software too?

Edit : it's good, I have the answer!

Congrats Tristan, Giovanni, and Doni! It looks Tristan and Doni were the tortoises and Giovanni was the hare. I appreciate Doni's consideration. It was kind of him to let me pass twice. It was nice to see Phil near pole position. I knew he must like this track to be as well prepared as he was.

I did 2+ laps offline before the event. I got two CTDs during that time. One was like Phil's. I had a horrible crash and the other was like Fulvio. I entered the car and while sitting in the pits. It slowly drifted to the left and once it touched the wall, GPL booted me back to the desktop. Prior to this event I had only driven 2.5 or 3.5 laps, three half laps and one or two full laps. The 3 half laps were from CTDs. Every time I'd leave the trees, going up the mountain, I'd run wide in a right hander where there is a parking spot on the left. I'd hit the bank on the left. It would launch the car and I'd get a CTD. Luckily my computer was flawless throughout this event.

On my first qually lap, I hit someone who was going the wrong way  eek. They must have crashed and got confused.

That was me Phil. Sad I'm glad that's the first time I've done that. Offline I reset a few times because I wasn't sure which direction to go after a major crash. I had no clue I was going the wrong way until I saw you, milliseconds before I clipped you. At that point I had already forgotten I might be going the wrong way. I apologize for that lunacy. I'd have qualified at 19:55 if I hadn't been disqualified for that mistake.

I'm glad I didn't make a huge mess this time. My lack of experience here makes me a real danger. I didn't like being near other cars. I didn't want a car within a few hundred meters behind me. I figured it would be inevitable I'd wreck and my car would take the trailing car out. I didn't want to be too close to a car in front in case they blocked the track.

I like this track. One day I'll learn to drive it well. It is frustrating not knowing where you're going but I'm sure it will be thrilling once I learn it. It's a fantastic addition to GPL. I don't know if it will ever be a good track for close racing but it could be if all the drivers have a good setup and have a lot of experience. Otherwise it's more like a rally stage.

It's a shame Fulvio couldn't practice. I'm glad he was able to start the race. I guess he showed there are still some problems with the pit stall locations.

Thanks for the fun guys and thanks for giving me a good excuse to learn this better.

I've been thinking about this. It should be possible to run a race with 10 second intervals provided everyone understands what to do. We could have a single file grid. The pole sitter sets off on the green flag. Driver 2 moves up to the start line, counts to 10 (so he leaves a 10 seconds gap and then sets off). As drivers 2 moves up to the start line, driver 3 moves up to grid slot 2 (can't stay still because GPL will disco the driver). When driver 2 sets off, driver 3 moves up to the start line and counts 10 seconds before setting off. The process continues until all the drivers have set off.

Positives: No need to take silly risks racing head to head. If you can see the driver ahead you are beating them. Being ahead on the road doesn't mean you are ahead on corrected time. Just like it is in the TT. No need to be super accurate with the 10 second count. I can easily amend the race results so the actual time the driver crossed the start line is the time used to correct the results.

Negatives: A bit more complicated to organise. There is a risk drivers will be discoed whilst waiting to start. So it would be important to have a decent gap in the grid so drivers can spin-up the rears as they take their turn moving forward. That shouldn't be too difficult to organise, the Glencrutchery Road is pretty long and straight.

I wasn't aware of that problem. It is easy to fix, I'll have a go at amending the Pit Stall locations.

Perhaps a fun race in the Christmas break would be another opportunity?

I've been thinking about this. It should be possible to run a race with 10 second intervals...

Have the pole sitter back past Governor's Bridge (so everyone gets a full flying start), with 500m or so between grid slots (easy to mod), and use elapsed time to determine race position (like the TT does).

Downsides I can think of: back of grid gets warmer tires to start lap, but needs to remember to load a bit extra fuel.

Another good suggestion, thanks Dean.

I think the key to a good race here is to avoid the necessity to overtake in order to win. To only need to be within 10 seconds of the guy ahead would reduce the risk taking considerably. A bit strange because normally dicing for position is the fun bit; but here the main opposition is the track itself.

A very satisfactory result!  Anytime you get around the IOM twice...let alone, once...without a reset has to be a feather in your cap.  To be sure, I had some bumps along the way with my own errors bouncing off the occasional grass berm but nothing serious.  Most of my dramas involved colliding with or avoiding other cars and they were scattered everywhere it seemed at times.  PHEW!

Grats to all finishers.

FYI...  I burned only 11.3 USG for the two complete laps.

Dean...  When are we going to see you back on track, mate?
