Season 38 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 9 – Works - Dundrod

This race announcement is for the WORKS.

The ninth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series takes us to Dundrod in Northern Ireland. The Dundrod Circuit was first used in 1950 for the RAC Tourist Trophy Sports Car race and for the Formula One (non-championship) Ulster Trophy. The Sports Cars raced again in 1951 through to 1955 and the Formula 1 cars from 1951 through to 1953. The circuit comprised public roads closed for racing including a section of the B38 Hannahstown Road between Glenavy and Hannahstown, a section of the B101 Leathemstown Road from Leathemstown Corner to Dundrod and a section of the B153 Quarterland/Tornagrough Road from Cochranstown to the road junction of the B38 Upper Springsfield Road/Hannahstown Road at the Lindsay Hairpin. The last car race held on the Dundrod Circuit was the 1955 RAC Tourist Trophy race in which sadly there were 3 fatalities. The narrow, high-speed nature of the circuit, meant it was just too dangerous and since then it has only been used for motorcycle racing.

For this race we will use the 1950 layout which includes the Leathemstown Bridge section.

The circuit variation, Dund1950, has been shown to be somewhat problematic.  Are we certain that this is the venue to use?

Why not Jimmy Pearson's new offering, Dund1955?  Just a thought...

I think Clive's right, it's bit late to change now but we can try Dundrod 1955 next season.

Rats. Threw that one away. I need to get used to leading races. Stop thinking and just drive! I just caught a nasty bump which flicked me into a sticky bit of hedge, race over. Good fun for a couple of laps dicing with Enrique, you were driving well my friend. Sorry I didn't have the composure to race with you for the entire distance.

I found a sticky bit of hedge before you did Phil!  lol

Not my finest hour in 55's. I had spent qualifying sorting out a setup for the Ferrari 555, a car that I have hardly driven before this race. It was almost how I would have liked, it but not quite "in the zone".

I was reasonably confident that I could get my car off the line faster than Clive Loynes would get his Gordini moving, but as I passed him I found that Jonny's Maserati was not moving all that quickly, so I passed him too  Shocked.

That left Phil's Lancia and Enrique in the Merc who were side by side just ahead...and I was travelling faster than either of them, and beginning to pick up a slipstream. It seemed like just I breezed past Phil and tucked into Enrique's slipstream before T1. Quite how I made such a lightening start is beyond me, but I will have to take another look at that  Roll Eyes.

But.....it all went wrong as we dropped down the hill and I realise now that I got sucked along in the Merc's slipstream and braked too late for the nasty right hander .

I hope that some of you had a better race than I did and made it too the finish.

Kind of race that I fought to not lose concentration, with few drivers it really is difficult to be motivated, I was thinking, leaving longer and more difficult tracks for the beginning of the championship, for the final races to choose more popular tracks, maybe it is a good solution.
I'm working a lot offline on the tracks, Macau is going to be a lot of work and I chose Maserati the moment I entered the server, Dundrod was in memory and I had to use the qualy to remember the details, because the idea was to reach the end, I was betting that reaching the end was a podium with chances and victory as well.
I was happy to have Doni getting close, this will bring me motivation !!!!! But when Doni arrived, something happened that disappeared !!!!
Farina should take it easy on the last lap, I'm sorry for that.

Nuts!  Threw away a potential podium when I clipped a grass berm ever so lightly on the inside but that was enough to propel me to the outside where I got firmly stuck in a hedge.  Sigh...

Grats to Jonny on the victory!

Gentlemen, with the championships defined, can we do the last race with only one server?

We had 10 on the Privateers server and 7 on the Works server. So if we get similar numbers for the final round then one server would be sufficient. We'd have to be sure that no more than 19 drivers turn up for the final round otherwise someone will miss out.

However, given that the championships are decided (pending formal moderation but I've only got one incident report to check and that didn't involve any of the championship contenders) then we could just say first come first served. I'm OK either way, I don't mind running 2 servers but a full grid is more fun.

A lot of retirements but all due to accidents as far as I can tell. The server seems to have been OK, no discos or screen freezes. Unless someone knows otherwise.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.
