Season 38 – 1967 Sprint F1 Privateers – Round 10 – Reims

The tenth and last race in the 1967 Sprint series finds us at Reims in France.  The circuit is basically several long straights with a couple of hairpins and a few cornfields. Catching a tow is what this track is about. It normally produces close racing. Reims-Gueux was first established in 1926 on the public roads between the small French villages of Thillois and Gueux. The circuit had two very long straights between the towns, and teams strove to maximize straight-line speed of their cars; many slipstream battles ensued. Race organizers actually felled trees and demolished old houses in order to make the circuit even quicker. International racing came with the first official Formula One event occurring in 1950, the inaugural year of the Formula One world championship. The circuit layout was shortened and changed in 1952 to bypass the town. In the 1954 race, the long-awaited Mercedes W196 with its straight-8 fuel-injection engine made its debut with Juan Manuel Fangio transferring from Maserati to join an otherwise all-German line-up of Hans Herrmann, Karl Kling and pre-war driver Hermann Lang. It was a dominant return with Fangio recording a practice lap of 124.31 mph. He and Kling led away and continued to race side by side around the Reims track. The Ferrari drivers simply couldn't cope with the pace. There was no race at Reims in 1955 and when the Grand Prix circus returned in 1956, it was without the silver arrows. Fangio dominated again but this time in a resurgent Ferrari team who's drivers also claimed the remaining podium places.

I forgot this rule "Any driver who uses the same chassis more than twice will not be awarded any bonus points."

Hopefully, I have no chance to win the championship  Grin

Cramp in the left hand suspension joint put paid to my race when I was just beginning to enjoy myself . Missed braking points because my leg went dead , had to do s/r to extracate myself from the corn fields , then miswed the pits stop in all the excitement  Roll Eyes after a while the cramp cleared but I was way behind everyone so retired to the pits for early bath  Sad
Hope you all enjoyed the race , grats to the Podiums

I tried very hard in this race and for the first half of the race I managed to keep the leaders in sight although my chances of overtaking any of the top 4 was zero. They were just too fast on the straights. I picked up a place when Leo spun out. Very unlucky, you had the pace to win this easily, your pole time was incredible. A couple of laps later I made a silly mistake and locked up under braking; I hit the barriers losing a wheel in the process. After that it was a matter of hanging on to the finish. Grats to Ricardo for the win and Dulima for a great recovery. Philippe was very fast in the Lotus and did really well to grab a podium. It looks like the Eagle was the car to have here.

It has been a great season lots of exciting close races. It has been a pleasure to race with you all this season, very fair driving from everyone  thumbup2

congratulations phil for the title of champion.  Wink
It's well deserved.

I took the wrong chassis, I took the lotus (3 times) instead of the eagle, lol.  Grin

I think that for the next season, the rules will have to be revised and simplified. It will cause less trouble and less work for the moderators.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the moderators.
Without them, we would not be able to spend unforgettable evenings together
.

I have an idea: mod pro for all mods.
or, for some mods, a reset without stop and go

Thanks for all the kind words gents  Grin

As Champ, I'll have to move up to the Works for next season (normal protocol for UKGPL). But if I stayed I'm not sure I'd be able to defend my title anyway. The competition was fierce this season and any one of 7 or 8 drivers could win next season.

The 50 bonus points will be added during the moderation of the last round.
