Moderator's Report

Summary
A well-deserved win for Mark Jones, taking pole position and fastest lap in the process. Tristan showed incredible pace in the Lola but after an incident at the start has been demoted allowing Doni to grab second place and Francesco to secure the final step on the podium. Doni and Francesco fought a race-long battle with Doni’s masterful race craft making the difference in the end.

Server replay time: 0h01m00s

Lap 1 – Dunlop Curve – Mark Jones and Tristan Bot
Mark gets a decent start from pole which is on the right-hand side of the track giving him the inside line into Dunlop Curve. Tristan gets an even better start from third place and as the field approached the famous clock, Tristan darted across to the left-hand side of the track. As Mark and Tristan start to round Dunlop Curve, they are side by side. Tristan is on the racing line but Mark is still ahead and has maintained his position on the right-hand side of the track. As they approach the apex, Tristan moves across in an effort to take the racing line but Mark’s Ferrari is already occupying that piece of tarmac. Contact is made and both cars spin out causing a massive pile-up involving eleven other cars (thirteen in total). Thankfully everyone could continue but the field was split up and the chance of an entertaining race with lots of close racing and slipstreaming had been lost for most drivers.

Mark Jones – Mark did nothing wrong. He maintained his line off the start line and was ahead in Dunlop Curve. He correctly stayed on his own side of the track until it was safe to move over.

Tristan Bot – Tristan was too eager to get ahead. His move to the left-hand side of the track shortly after the start was unnecessary and bordering on reckless. Fortuitously, Markus made a slow start which left the gap for Tristan, but with a grid full of red Ferraris it was very difficult to clearly identify which car was in the rear-view mirror. Even driving in chase view (F10) it is hard to see a clear gap to Markus’s car had opened up. Luckily no contact was made. On the entry to Dunlop Curve, Tristan was on the racing line but this does not mean he had right of way. Tristan should have stayed on the left-hand side of the track until he was clearly ahead of Mark. The UKGPL rules and driving etiquette are very clear, drivers must not move across the track unless it is safe to do so. The responsibility for the incident lies with Tristan.

Lap 1 – Dunlop Curve – Cookie and maddog
Cookie doesn’t get a great start, possibly because he was behind Markus who was also slow away. Consequently, he is passed by Evil before the Dunlop Curve and Martin (maddog) takes the opportunity to move up the inside. As they start to turn-in Martin has a good overlap (over 100%) but he is still in Cookie’s blind spot. The mayhem ahead must have distracted both drivers and as the cars approach the apex, contact is made and both cars spin out.

Martin did nothing wrong. He was entitled to attempt to overtake, and he kept to his side of the track. However, it would have been safer not to attempt a pass unless it was obvious that sufficient overlap could be achieved such that he could be clearly seen by his opponent.

Cookie couldn’t see Martin in his mirrors, he hadn’t initiated the move and so he wasn’t to know Martin was on his inside. Nevertheless, he should have stayed on the left-hand side of the track until he was certain the cars had settled down into their positions. Moving across the track at the start, or before any sizable gaps have developed, is fraught with difficulty particularly with so many of the same cars in the same colour scheme on the grid.

A race to forget here.  I've not yet found a way to make the new GT Ferrari work well, and while I tried to wring it's neck, it tried to break mine! Angry

The grasstrack setup accidentally used, prooved very useful when exiting Mulsane corner, out beyond the sand dunes, but added to the track length.  Had we raced on a genuine Mulsanne grass surface, I believe I could've challenged for the lead, but someone decided to use asphalt which I felt, caused my disadvantage.

Managed to successfully bounce off various scenery, but clipped a Cookie when my car became verily squirrelly, into Mulsanne.  I apologise for the "Coup de gras," and cannot blame Enzo for such misfortune.  Car wrangling skills improved, as the race ran down. Undecided

I'd used both Shift-Rs by the time I got to the Dunlop bridge on L1 so was a very cautious 15 laps for me. By the time I got to the Mulsanne Straight on L1 everyone had long since gone so no chance of a tow. I did have a good few laps with Philippe  but then on L8 he outbraked himself at the end of the long straight. 2 miles later and I threw myself off the track. How the car was not damaged I'll never know but thankfully it still drove OK. All I wanted to do then was get to the end in one piece.

The incident on L1 was a pity. Everyone is usually so well behaved; a league of gentlemen. When your GPL time is limited and you look forward to Friday it's a real shame to have any practice you've done go to waste. I put yesterday's pile up down to end of season excitement.

I've really enjoyed my first full season in the Sports Cars.

WOW!  For the 2nd race running, I've made the podium.  Talk about a fluke but I'll take it!  Smiley

Grats on a fine win, Mark.

The less said about Bot, the better.  What do you expect from a 'Type A' personality?  Bloody typical.  Sorry to see virtually everyone's race trashed barely 1000m into the race.  Grrr...

I'm confused to see that Clive lost a certain podium at White House on the very last lap.  Why didn't you reset, Evil?

I had a tremendous battle with both Fran & Phil.  Their driving was exemplary and with the slipstream, it was proving impossible for anyone of us to break away.  Til Lap14, at least.  With only a faint hope, I passed Fran mid-lap and managed a pull-away that was only possible, I suppose, when Phil ran afoul of the berm at Mulsanne hairpin and lost time.  That was only good to elevate me into a safe P4 but then, a podium with Clive in sight of the flag.  Geeezzz...

Thanks to the club for organizing.  Was fun!  Smiley

Hi guys Smiley
...a little bit sorry ( should I ? ) for the first turn - first lap....I explain  just to clarifie what's append ...( I just watch the reaplay under all angles, frame by frame ...since one hour ! )
_I take a perfect start from P3 , at 0.51 , I overtake Markus...
_end of 0.57 Mark is in front ( maybe 2-3 m), at 235 km/h and me at 241 km/h... we are side by side but I am on the racing line...
_0.58 start ...few meters later I 'm in front at 243 km/h and Mark at 237 km/h ...I'm still on the racing line to the end of 0.58 .....
_early 0.59 ....I've allways 2 wheels on the racing line, I slow a bit down aproching the curve at 239 km/h when I see Mark  at the inside ( have a look at my steering weel at the end of 0.58 and the start of 0.59, I turn my steering weel to the left ! to let room and avoid contact , I also slow down to 227 km/h ,my 4 wheels are on the racing line when Mark is 235 km:h near the white line inside ...
_at  the contact moment,( look also from cokpit vue from Markus and sky vue ! ) end of 0.59  and early 0.01.00 , the back of Mark 's car slide to the left ( see the space betwin white line and car ) and come toutch me on the middle of my car and this send me on the left wall ( I am at less than 200km/h before toutch the wall ....Mark is still full trottle !....to see me you have to look at me ....miror or pribluda ! )....who don't like to give up ??
So this is to put some lights on this racing moment in response at """ The less said about Bot, the better.  What do you expect from a 'Type A' personality?"""....so maybe the less said about me is to have a good look on the reaplay before speak and if you can explain what you meen by ""Type A' personality it's will be better for everybody !...specialy for me.

....well exept this, my race was not so bad , I done only one mistake who cost me 10s , so no chance to catch Mark whith slipstream.... Happy to win this good serie, the cars are fun to drive ....thx to all for racing ...thx Org.
maybe see you next season Wink

I don't want to go into a lot of detail here, I prefer to wait for the formal moderation but:

... we are side by side but I am on the racing line...
Being on the racing line does not give you right of way. In UKGPL the accepted etiquette is to stay on your own side of the track until you can see your opponent in your mirrors. That way you can be sure there will not be any contact when you move over. Racing line or no racing line.

This is just a bit of friendly banter, I wouldn't worry about it.

The back of my car never slides to the left until after you hit me.
