Firstly I have to apologise, mainly to Matt for my complete incompetence at the start. I had tried a few practice starts as it is always tricky with the banked track & I thought I had it sussed, errr no, I still got the car sideways as I changed up to 2nd gear.  Roll Eyes

So having waited for Matt I was dead last & made things worse for myself by running onto the grass at T2. Things did not get much better, as having passed Matt a few laps in, I went off again, repassed him & then had another off trying to pass Suti. This was obviously not going to be a good race  no

After around 15 laps I had somehow reached 2nd place but way behind Daz. I then got into a good rhythm & turned in several laps in the low 2.06s & started to close the gap. By the time of the first pitstop I was only 8s behind & Daz & I both pitted at the same time. My stop was not very good, I had to reverse a couple of times to get the pit board to appear, it seemed very critical where exactly you stopped to trigger the board. So I was very surprised to be accelerating out of the pits with Daz still sat there, I guess he changed tyres, something the Capri didn't require.

After everyone had completed their stops I was over 20s ahead with Tony in 2nd place & Daz 3rd. The gap increased over the next few laps & by the time I made my early second pitstop I had 35s in hand over Daz. I rejoined just 8s behind & judging by his earlier pace I expected to reel Daz in, but he was now much faster & was pulling away at over 1s a lap. Eventually though he had to make his second pitstop & this handed me a 40s lead. Again Daz was faster but without a mistake from me, he was never going to make up the time in the remaining laps.

Quite how I succeeded in winning after the atrocious first few laps I really don't know.

Congrats to Daz & Tony on the podium & well done to Lasse & Suti for making it to the end.  clap clap clap

I made a total horlicks of this one....

Was going to take the Escort BDB, but for some reason it just wouldn't play nicely into turn 1, no matter how I had it setup it just wanted to go around there. Probably my braking point, but I got annoyed and went with the nice and stable BMW to get around it, and have some pace on the straights.....

Quali was OK, logged on to see Geoff going faster in the Capri than I had managed in practise, so played with the setup a little during the session, finding that one click down on the gearbox gave a better lap in quali. Ended up with a PB, couldn't complain really.....

I made a great jump off the line, and seeing Geoffers having an issue went for a steady first lap to bed it all in, then going full pace for 2 laps. It was around this point I realised I had made a terrible mistake by not swapping back to the longer gears. The engine health was being destroyed by being on the redline on the banking, to the tune of around 3 to 4% per lap, and given that it was already down to 87% that would mean a blow up before the end for sure at full pace. I had no choice but to back off if I wanted to save the motor and finish the race. The gap to Geoffers was around 26 seconds when this came to light, but I knew that wouldn't last....

Had to go without full throttle on the banking to try to not any engine health. Trying to keep the revs at around 6200 or so did the job, but I was now 2-3 seconds off the pace. There was nothing to be done about it, I had to watch the gap come down very steadily by at least a second a lap. Then the pitstop, I decided to take tyres now, and then that would get me to the end, I could have done the whole race on one set but it would have been sketchy at the end I felt. I had seen that Geoff had gone back and forth to get his stop going, so when he left before me I knew he had not taken tyres, putting me further on the back foot....

So this gave Geoff the lead as he said, and I was back out and just plugging away trying not to lose any health, any 1% saved meant more full throttle later.....And finally when he came out behind me from his pitstop I felt I had enough in hand to go full pace, but it was all too late as he said. Gave it a go, just to see if the pressure would make him lose some time, but he was uber-consistent when following, and no different when in the lead.

Ended the race with 8% engine health, was just happy to finish. Really don't like having to save fuel/tyres/engine, I know it is realistic and is a skill, but I like going flat out as much as I can. I can 100% say this was totally my fault though, made a massive blunder!

Grats to Geoffers, after the shenanigans on lap 1 it looked a pretty faultless drive.

Thanks Kurt and Tony for the points and results. Smiley

I was having a great time, not sure why though, not really a success story.
I decided to go with a bit orthodox gearbox for this. Changed final gear so that top speed was ~240kph, but shortened 4th gear one notch. Of course 5th gear became sort of overdrive by this choice and made Capri nicely reach the limiter in fourth on the infield section, but still reach the 5th gear limiter just before first corner braking point. For drafting gear box was awesome and so I always went close to BMW's, like Daz, overtaking me to get the 5th gear top speed immediately and stay there until I needed to stamp on brakes in first corner.

as a result I was over a second faster than Tony in infield section but lost only 0.6 seconds on banking and when I got drafted, the loss was there minimum.
So everything well planned and laid out for battling 3rd place in class? yep. Unfortunately the true race logic was something like this:
1. spin on corner with position and time loss.
2. hunt down next guy, usually Tony in BMW
3. Overtake the next guy
4. if spin count in race is less than 10, continue from step 1, otherwise continue from next step
5. make great tactical move and pit at the same time with Tony.
6. miss your pit box with just few inches
7. hunt down several backward-forward moves for the exact location of your pit box losing all the advantage you had by having smaller fuel tank and consumption than in BMW
8. leave pits with exactly same time and same time difference to Tony.
9. spin on corner.
10. hunt down the next guy
11. battle several corners with next guy without any touching nor problems and eventually gain a position.
12. if spin count in race is less than 20, continue from step 9, otherwise spin once more and continue to finish in 4th.

...For some reason I was still enjoying it. Not sure why though. Smiley
Normally I would been frustrated like no tomorrow.
