Moderator's Report

Fran is struggling for outright pace around Cadwell which is a tight and twisty circuit. In the early laps he benefits from other driver's mistakes and gains a few places. At this stage in the race he is not obliged to yield his track position even if he is slower than following cars. But he makes a few mistakes of his own and drops back down the field. In time the faster drivers are lapping the tail enders and Fran is caught by much faster cars. In many instances Fran can be seen to move over and allow the leaders to lap him when he felt it safe to do so, However there were a few times when drivers were held up for almost half a lap and a train of cars develops behind Fran.
On one such occasion Bastian is amongst those cars and he takes his chance to lap fran around Chris and into Gooseneck. Bastian is much quicker on the outside line and completes the overtake with room to spare. However, Fran appears to fail to slow sufficiently for Gooseneck and runs straight into Bastian taking both cars onto the grass and compromising Bastian's race.
Fran was fully on the tarmac and under normal control and Bastian made no mistake.

Ziu is catching Tris to lap him and his closing the gap through Chris. Tris probably does not wish to be lapped and simply loses control of his car on the grass as he exits Gooseneck but is too keen to re-join.It might be that he is not used to being so uncompetitive and so he is therefore a little impatient. . Tristan's priority should have been to rejoin safely, not to rejoin as fast as possible. He should have driven carefully on the grass and re-joined after Mansfield and onto the inside of the track which is off the racing line.
Tris must have known that Ziu was close and a driver of Tristan's experience should have been aware that Ziu would pass him. Tris attempts to rejoin the circuit at the apex of Mansfield just as Ziu turns in. Ziu made no mistake and was entitled to take the racing line through Mansfield.

Drivers are reminded that abuse and bad language are NOT tolerated on the SROU forum. This is why we have the Incident Reporting system, so that the Race Stewards can make an impartial decision, just as in real life. Please try and resist the temptation to vent your frustration by posting on the forum directly after a race when the adrenaline is running high. Better to post an incident report and allow then red mist to clear.
It takes time to review incidents and to reach a decision, often involving several moderators and numerous PM's. In general we try to resolve incidents before the next race in any series, but this is not always possible simply because we have other jobs, lives and families outside of UKGPL.

Also, After watching the Cadwell replay it was noticeable how many small contacts were made that might have resulted in more serious incidents, Several drivers were guilty of driving too close to the car ahead and I would refer all competitors to the in car/overhead views on this page.

Season 39 1967F2 – Round 1 –  Cadwell Park

For season 39 we are running a UK F2 Championship visiting some classic UK tracks.

Cadwell Park is a much loved racing circuit in Lincolnshire in Eastern England.
In 1926 Mr. Mansfield Wilkinson bought a part of the old Cadwell Hall country estate adjacent to his farm. His sons, Charles and Christopher, started to race each other around the gravel drives on their motorbikes. The track was improved, widened and lengthened over the years to become what it is today. The names of the Wilkinsons live on in the names of some corners. The track is used more for motorbike racing rather than modern high powered car racing, because of its narrowness and lack of run off areas in places.

Drivers must pay the number of tokens for the chassis they use in accordance with the following table:

What a tedious track! (wth a full grid & fast drivers).
Apologies for taking you out Billy, was going ok up until that point.
Then just continued to get worse. I took nearly all the unlimited resets over the next couple of laps & was lapped by about lap5.

Troed to keep out of the way/not crash into lappers, but didn't always seem to work out as well as it should.

What a blast! Great start to the season, if a little frantic. I span on lap 7 giving a couple of places away but no need for a reset. Apologies to Philippe on L16 if I tripped you up. I was settling down again after passing a recovering Yannick and being cautious. I saw your car explode in my mirrors. Cool.

Evil nudged me off on Lap 26 but only as I was held up by the traffic ahead. No problem though as we both recovered and had a stellar race to the end. Thanks to Phil for some close racing in the Cooper. The F2 are fantastic in close racing like this. See you all next time.

What a hectic race.
I got well off the line but got taken out after a couple of corners and got demoted to 18th.
Worked my way up throughout the race but I had to mostly rely on other's errors and mishaps as there is just next to no overtaking on this track otherwise, especially in an underpowered Ferrari.
I tried being patient with my moves but it did not always pan out as I did had a couple of collisions here and there. I do not really recall who again by heart, but my apologies to you.

Still I managed to climb up to 4th, but got barely lapped at the end of the race.

I tried to connect after 21:00, my bad, then after a couple of try I could join. I don't know who disconnected to leave me room.

The biggest challenge with this track (for me anyhow) was getting lapped. Apologies to;
Evil - After letting you through the preceding lap, I planned to go very deep into Mansfield & make room for the pass on the inside. On reflection you probably weren't expecting that & it ended badly.
Fulvio - there were a train of cars passing me between the pits & the hairpin. I managed to get out of the way of most of them.

This is a very tricky track but quite satisfying when you get it right.

We tangled when I was battling with Eric on the left turn before the hump, sorry, I didn't see your move in time. I had  a long battle with Eric till there, then I lost a lot of position here and there cause a bit of damage and some mistakes.  Cry

Sorry Billy, I was caught off guard by your slow speed before the hairpin. In chat after the end I said sorry to Francesco, but it was for you.  Smiley

Watching my replay I noted that with this mod when you rear end someone the car behind got crazy and become an earth-air rocket. I saw Clive, Philippe and Phil, I think, start to the moon. I was lucky when I hit Billy cause I was slow there. Grin
