In pre-race trials, I'd managed a best of 2m00.40s as best and applying the 110% cutoff rule meant that if anyone surpassed a lap of 1m49.45s, I'd be excluded.

Is it a UKGPL rule or a Doni's rule ?

I already started several races with no time at all.

About Al Pease (RIP) ...he is the only F1 driver to have been disqualified for driving too slowly and dangerously.
During the 1969 Canadian GP, he was lapped by the leaders after only 5 laps and was responsible of Moser retirement and contacts with other cars (Stewart, Beltoise, Courage)

This appears to be Doni's rule (well it is based on the real 107% rule used in real F1 that Doni has decided to adopt) which actually contradicts the UKGPL rule with regards to swapping cars.

So Doni should receive a caution for swapping a slow car. However, we need to be pragmatic here. Provided the server was not compromised (which is the main reason for this rule) then there is really no harm done to the leaders. Doni was simply trying to ensure he was last by a smaller margin by swapping the slowest car for the next slowest car.

The current cutoff is 107% I believe.  Back in the day, it was 110%.  Pease was allowed to start the 1969 Canadian GP but by rights, should not have been.  He must have appealed to the organizing body, the CRDA, for a start privilege.  Bad call as it turned out.

To avoid a car swap penalty in future, how be I join the server with the Eagle, keep the car parked til I see how the pole time is shaping up and if I can meet the 110% criterion with some degree of comfort, then I'll stick with it.  If it looks like the fast time is outside the bracket, I'll disconnect and rejoin with the BT24 not having turned a lap in the Eagle.  Is that OK?  My pre-race trials should give me an indication as to whether or not the Eagle can cut it.  BTW, at Spa67, it was hopelessly off the pace so it was a given to join with the BT24.

Just for History, Al Pease with a time 1m28s50 was quicker on the grid than Bill Brack (I don't think he was Billy Nobrakes  Wink ) 1m28s70, John Cordts 1m29s70  and Silvio Moser 1m41s40
Silvio was from Switzerland but the 3 others were local drivers ...it would have been difficult to not qualify them !
The poleman (and winner) was Jacky Ickx with 1m17s40

Cookie is the Divisional Mod for this series so if he is OK with you swapping to the BT24 if your Eagle qually time is outside the 110% window then I've no objection. Just one driver doing that shouldn't adversely affect the server. So there is no need for you to sit in the pits until qually is nearly over before you try to set a time in the Eagle. If you've set times in the Eagle and have to swap to the BT24 at the last minute then so be it.

Note to others: Please don't take this as an invitation to swap cars. We are trying to make an exception here just for Doni. However, if anyone else wants to drive the Eagle we could allow a similar dispensation.

This rule has existed ever since I started with UKGPL back in 2002. It has never been tested AFAIK. To be honest I don't know what would happen if 19 drivers joined the server and then they all started swapping cars. I assume the server would get confused and drivers wouldn't be able to reconnect but I can't be sure. Perhaps we could try an experiment one day?

The 107% does not exist at UKGPL!
But there is the rule that the car may not be changed after a timed lap.

https://www.ukgpl.com/index.php/rules/contravene_online

When importing the race data into the SROU database
it can do a lot of extra work as the rpydump generator only accepts the first entry and reports the others as doublette and ignors them.
In the data reconciliation with the GPL export html this can even lead to a rejection, which then makes a time-consuming manual debugging necessary.

Understood, Axel & Phil.  In future, I shan't join the server with the Eagle unless I'm fully confident of meeting the 110% cutoff.  Thanks for your courteous replies.
