Season 39 – 1967 F1 (Privateers) – Round 2 – Assen

For Round 2 of the 67F1 Privateers championship we remain in the Netherlands and take a short trip north east to Assen in the province of Drenthe. Assen has a long history of motor racing. The first event, a motorcycle race, was held in 1925 on country roads through the villages of Rolde, Borger, Schoonloo and Grolloo.  Between 1926 and 1954, the Dutch TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race, was held on the Van Drenthe circuit. This was a 10.27 miles street circuit through De Haar, Barteldsbocht, Oude Tol, Hooghalen, Laaghalen and Laaghalerveen. In 1955 a new purpose built track was inaugurated which was shorter than the original but at 6.049 miles it was still a long track by modern standards. Over the years the track has been through numerous modifications which have changed its length each time. The 1967 version we are using tonight is 4.8 miles long.  Although more famous for motorcycle racing, the track has been used for car racing (BOSS GP, Champ Car, DTM and several junior classes) but never for Formula 1..

Yet another awful GPL race for me..  let everyone get ahead to allowed myself room and time to settle down, warm up the tyres etc. etc ... but another bummer .

but 1st lap i think , ran a little close to the rear of Billy and made sure I didnt hit him from behind.  Slid off the track and was unable to extract myself from the scenery.

end of another race..  rather be out and being annoyed that I mucked up than feeling guilty for ruining anyones race. hope you all had a blast.

Qualified fourth in the Cooper (behind another Coop and two BTs), then got the jump to third at the start. Stayed in third for maybe three laps and then had a disco, even with the anti-disco patch installed. Was running steadily and well, for all the good that did me.

I couldn't work this track out. Found it difficult to carry any speed through many of the corners or kept spinning trying to accelerate away. I tried a few cars but the only one which was half interested in staying on the tarmac was the Honda. I'm pityfully slow in the white whale but achieved my target of surviving until the finish & collecting a few points.

Sorry for my slow start, I didn't see the flagman.
Grats to Leo ... Looking at his laptimes, I think he should race with PROS. The season will be boring for him.

Happy with my final 5th, I could not hope a better final position.

Agreed I posted some very competitive lap times here, but Cookie have been very fast also, like Zandvoort, way faster than me. He's jus not been luckie.

If the administrators find it adequate, I may join the pros, granted I carry my race times  wheelchair

Hi Leo
The 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateers are set up as two completely separate championships so it isn't possible to move your results/times/points across from the Privateers to the Works. So if you move to the Works now you will lose the 100 championship points, hence why I suggested you moved before the start of the season.

We have to make the Works/ Privateers split somewhere. When we have got it right, the slowest driver in the Works should be quicker than the fastest driver in the Privateers. This was the case in round 1. I was the slowest Works and you were the fastest Privateer. This was also the case in round 2 (I'm looking at race times not lap times).

Moving to the Works would give you more of a challenge and you would probably enjoy it more. But it is your choice.

Regards

Phil

Not really ...  Huh
Only looking at race times, Leo would have finished 5th in Zandvoort just before Baab and 4th in Assen just before Baab again  Grin

By the way, as you wrote it's too late now for a change.
(and moreover I have no problem with Leo staying with Privateers, I just thought that will be a boring championship for Leo...  Axel is often very quick too, but he often broke his engine and can't finish the mod67 races)

Oops, you're right David. I'm trying to browse on my mobile phone and I messed up.

He can still change but he would be starting the Works with zero championship points.

I'm not showing any tokens available to me in the standings page. I missed the first race but started Assen in the Cooper and completed two laps before I was bounced out on a disco. By my calculation that should give me 10+10-5 = 15 before starting the third race, right?

Yes you are right Pepe, you have 15 tokens before starting the third race. Your tokens will be displayed on the championship table once you have scored a few points.
