Season 39 -  – 1967 F2 - Croft

                                          AMATEUR RACE

Croft is one of the classic British race venues for cars and bikes. Over the years it has hosted all of the classic races from early GPs to more recent Touring cars and Superbikes. The elevation changes and mixture of fast sweeping curves and tighter sections promotes fast and furious racing with a couple of good passing opportunities.

Is it just me, or are there some invisible concrete blocks on some of the kerbs?!

On one hand I find it an amusing way to say 'no' to people trying to cut the corners.
You can see that the final corner is sort of a ramp, so I think that explains how riding it could flip over the car in the worst case.
On the other hand, this could develop some pretty hazardous moments.

Good point Yannick. The track builders don't follow a set of common principles when building tracks, and why would they? So on some tracks riding the kerbs will be advantageous, whereas on other tracks it will be problematic, if not dangerous. It would make checking for corner cutting in races a lot easier if track builders always put some immovable object inside the corners or in this case made the kerb less inviting. But as you say that might create more problems than it solves.

I found out about the ramped effect quite quickly, after running wide & trying to re-join over the backside of a kerb Smiley

The invisible block-type effect is at the entrance to the chicane on the left side of the track,  just before the kerb starts.  That can take a wheel or 2 & not seen again.  I found this area on my first lap!

Although at the exit of the chicane on the left side of the track, there does appear to be some kind of texture overlap/gap (passes through the car) so maybe 'something' is going on in that area.  Certainly staying on the black stuff seems to work better!

........................this track will reward precise driving  shifty
Doni, who is the 4 wheels always on the grey stuff champion, might benefit from other drivers excesses?

It is surely too late, now. But it would have been interesting for the Amateurs championship standings to post the moderation for last F2 races before this race.
It could have a great importance for the title battle between Dave and Eric (...my team mate  Wink  )

(...my team mate  Wink  )

It seemed a bit BGB-heavy tonight - over half the grid  Grin

Unlucky Philippe. Great pole time. I just tried to hang onto the back of you with the hope of being pulled away from the others.
Once your tyres had warmed up, you were driving away from me.  I think a couple of minor moments allowed be to catch back up again & then sneak past.

Was then just trying to drive carefully without throwing it away;  and I managed to get away with it!

I just couldn't get this track until yesterday, but now it does flow.  I think some opportunistic runnimg late last night with Phil really helped today.  Thanks Phil!

Cheers all.
Dave.
