Season 39 – 1968 EARLY – Round 2 –  Monaco

Welcome to the first full season of the 1968 Early Mod – when racing cars evolved to grow wings. We will be using a selection of tracks from the original 1968 season. For each race drivers will be able to select from a group of 4 cars that have relatively similar performance levels.

There is no handicapping.

The second round will be run at the iconic street circuit in Monaco. The car set is Group III.

McLaren M5A
BRM P126/P133
Matra MS11
Cooper T86b

Full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please read the season 39 general rules on the championship standings page.

Please read the specific rules for 68 series on the 1968 Early championship standings page.

So happy to finish 2nd in this amazing track, however, 2 resets in the last two laps as a lapped car spun 2 times in front of me and rejoined the track so badly... Undecided. I was 20 seconds ahed of Fulvio i think ( not much time to watch Pribluda eheheh) but theese crashes could have ruined my race. Yannick, as ever, soooo fast and consistent, a huge race, grats!!

Monaco it's like that, someone loose infront of you and there is almost nothing you can do.

Sorry for the contact in the first turn Gio. I got the better start, you braked latter and we met at the apex.

Grats Yannick,Giovanni, Fulvio and finishers.

Departure 7 then 17th following the pile-up at the start of the race without counting the following ones, without the unlimited reset, many would certainly not have finished.
Exciting end of race behind Leo, thank you for the fun.

Thank you for the organization and see you soon.  Smiley

I'm more than happy with a P6. My laptimes are all around the 1:27.5 so I was not expecting to be any threat to the top half of the grid. I got a lousy start as I was not ready for the green flag. Doni did well to avoid me from behind. This slow start did pay off though as I was far enough back to pick may way safely through the wreckage at T1. Thank you boys Smiley

I outbraked myself into the last bend of L1 which let a couple of places slip by. After that, a long lonely race with just the occasional back marker. I span once at the chicane when I clipped the hay-bales but did not need to Shift-R. Overall, happy to have survived without a Shift-R and only a couple of silly mistakes. This was also my first online race at Monaco. How scary must it have been in real-life? Hats off to Graham Hill et al.

The handling of the 1968 cars still puzzle me.
This race I get the strong feeling that it much more feels like how the modern sims drive. Call me accustomed to how the other mods drive, but I don't feel like it works on GPL. Undecided

I didn't expect my pace to be that strong, given I didn't really got the car down despite pole. I got stuck behind Uli for a number of laps after an error, but after I got past I didn't had any more pressure from behind. Still a number of mistakes on the way to the flag, but still finished with a fair margin.

See you next race.

No problem Leo, i kept my position so no problem  Grin, i was aware of your car After the start so i took the external line, i couldn't see your car in the mirrors so i assumed you was on the internal but not side by side. I'll Watch the replay cause really i didn't Imagine we could collide. See you the next race, i Hope we could have some close racing again this season as i enjoied a lot last season in 55 Wink

Your typical wild & crazy stuff at Monaco.

What would a race be here without a massive T1, Lap01 shunt?  True to form, there was one and wonder of wonders, I managed to avoid it.  That put me well up the order and after things settled down a bit, I found myself chasing Fulvio.  To my surprise, I was actually able to close in with the JoBo McLaren.  For many a lap, we ran in close company.  It seemed that I was faster in the first and last 1/3 of any given lap but in the middle section down by the harbourfront, FP could scamper away to a comfy margin.  It was also apparent, too, that if I were to gain the place, Fulvio would have to make a major mistake.

With 10 laps to run, I took a peek at my fuel level.  GULP!  Just 3USG left and my brief pre-race trials showed I could only run nine laps with that fuel load.  I started to short-shift having no option but to let Fulvio pull away.  In the last couple of laps, I started taking corners a gear higher than normal where possible and coasting a bit into corners.  It paid off as I made the line just a few seconds ahead of Bot with just 17 psi showing on the fuel pressure gauge.  No way I would have been able to make another lap.  Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.  Smiley
