Moderator's Report

Summary (Works)
A majority of Gordinis meant anyone choosing a faster car would have a good chance of victory, and so it turned out. A steady drive by Phil Thornton in a Maserati saw him take victory from Evil Clive in a Connought. After a hard-fought battle with Phil, Bastian Grupp had to settle for third place. A minor mistake caused him to lose time and despite the fast straight-line speed of the Vanwall he couldn’t make up the gap over the final few laps. JonnyO won the battle of the Gordinis.

Lap 1 – Turn 1 – GrandPrixYannick and Evil Clive
Evil Clive gets a blistering start from P8 on the grid. His Connaught easily out drags the Gordinis ahead of him and he slots into P3 on the approach to turn 1. Yannick has had a good start from P3 and as he approaches turn 1 his Gordini is up to speed and starts to gain on Clive’s Connaught.  Yannick doesn’t quite get alongside at turn-in but he keeps a very tight line and hugs the kerb. Clive takes his normal racing line and cuts across Yannick. Contact is made and both cars spin out. Clive can continue but unfortunately Yannick loses a wheel and is out of the race.

Yannick didn’t have 50% overlap at turn-in so he wasn’t in a position to claim the corner but he was entitled to a little more room. He made every effort to keep to the inside and short of braking very early (which would have risked him being rear-ended) he tried hard to avoid contact. So no blame can be apportioned to Yannick.

Clive would have been unsure how far ahead (if at all) he was of Yannick. So, whilst the overlap was small enough to claim the corner, he wasn’t allowing for any margin of error. In the interests of self-preservation he should have left at least a car’s width on the inside until he could see the other cars in his mirrors.

Had some fun following Fran for a number of laps.  Then managed to pass, just to throw it away at the next corner.
Wasn't sure if I'd picked up an engine issue, or just down due to loss of the tow.  Seems like a bit of both.
For sure you was faster than me but mistakes have penalised your race.In contrast to the race at Zandvort with the  67 ,the engine did not explode after few laps and i was able to finish.

Had lots of fun but any chance of a good result vanished when someone dismantled Yannick's car at T1 and left me off-roading to avoid the damage.

I was also delayed by Evil doing some ballet moves at T1 on lap two!

Grats Phil and podium.

I need to look at what happened at T1 on the replay, I was surprised to be airborne so early in the race  Shocked.  I had profited from having a non-Gordini car off the grid and was up to 3rd at T1, then instantly back to the rear of the field  Undecided

I think the first turn incident damaged the springy things a little as the braking became a little random for the rest of the race. Just how bad, I discovered  we started Lap 2. i thought that the ballet moves that Clive Loynes referred to were quite skilful lol As I gave the brake pedal a first hard pump from full speed the car snapped sideways and I thought that I was heading for the scenery and an early exit. Luckily it was only a "pump" and because I had released the brake the did a graceful pirouette ( very effective at slowing the car!!! I need to practise that  Wink ) and easily made the corner.

The rest of the race was a chase after the swarm of Gordinis before hunting down Phil and Bastian. Bastian had the Vanwall hooked up and even Phil's Maserati could not find a pass until Bastian ran wide, Phil went through to take the lead and I took my chance to follow him.
The final 12 laps were epic.  I was completely over the limit trying to get at Phil, mainly because managing the braking was an adventure. Eventually I discovered that trying to avoid the brakes snatching to the left was easy if I kept the brakes in the RED zone so that they were not too strong.

Grats to Phil who maintained the pace and consistency, I could just not close those last 50 mtrs to attack him over those 12 laps.  thumbup1

THe start was good, i could keep Phil behind me first but more and more pressure from phil so my brakes went yellow.
The first time i ran wide i shifted down too early into first, Phil could not avoid but he waited sportsman-like until i recovered.
But there was Clive who closed up. the next part is already described by Clive, and i tried to attack but it was not more to get with the standard setup.
Even i had good top speed, gears were not set to optimum. but thats the price of not practicing....

Grats to Phil and Clive and all finshers.

Pole for me  Cheesy (no merit, just the most powerful car!!) and well helped from the start by the crash behind me at the 1st braking (just saw a few cars across in the mirrors!!)
I thought I could manage my lead quietly, but I saw Pete in the distance nibbling away at the seconds Sad...He ended up catching me a little before the end, after I resisted as much as my brakes would allow, I couldn't hold him back from taking the win Cry

As suggested above, maybe asking for confirmation before each race would allow a full server.
(well, it allowed me to finish on the podium Wink)

What a fantastic mod this is. I was in the Connaught for this first round and I was super pleased to qualify 2nd. Christian's big red car was fast away from pole but not as quick as the yellow car in 3rd (Francesco?). Sorry - I've not had a chance to look at replay to put names to faces. That took me by surprise and then I made a hash of braking for T1 which took me into the side of the faster car. A few bumps, a semi-spin and a heap of guilt meant that I did the gentlemanly thing and waited until the yellow cars had passed me again before charging on. I then had a tough battle from 4th to work my way up to the front. I was gaining on Christian by about 30 yds per lap and I really didn't think I'd be able to pass him before the chequered flag.  A few scary moments, with very little in the way of brakes, made for a lot of fun but I love the way you can chuck these cars into a corner sideways in order to scrub off speed. The real life drivers must have had balls of steel.

So, very grateful for the win in the Connaught. I really love the sound of the 55 cars as well. You can almost smell them as you drive.

Thanks for letting me join you in this series.

Well, i squeezed every inch of performance from this Little blu teapot, and for half the race i could follow the front pack, the brakes constantly on the edge but was fun. At the end i finished where i started from, i was third After the T1 incident but my pace wouldn't allow more. I resisted the assaults from clyve in the end but fortunately for me he missed the braking point a couple of times.

Also for me, i think would be great a call before the race to allow a full grid when possible.

I have just watched the replay of T1.................

Sincere apologies to Yannick  Sad

I remember seeing a car in my mirror and thinking " that Gordini is a safe distance behind", then I focused on getting myself safely into the apex on cold tyres.  When there was contact I thought that either
, there had been another car in my blind spot, or someone had totally missed their braking point and taken out several cars.  Bu it appears that we were both aiming for the same piece of tarmac  Undecided.

I have submitted an incident report.

Apologies from my side.

I saw you breaking earlier than me and saw there was a gap and dived into it without thinking twice. It was ill judgement on my part.

Grats to Phil on a fine drive to the victory!  Well done.

Super job by Evil Clive...now forever to be known as 'Pinwheel Clive' after his epic 360° loop going into T1 to start Lap02 where he hardly lost a moment of time...to nail down P2.  I unintentionally held him up earlier otherwise he may have had more time to work on the lead.

Good job by Bas to score P3.

No less than six Gordinis took to the field.  I managed a clean if unremarkable run after some early dicing with Clive Loynes.  A P7 finish is not unwelcome as it could have been far worse.  Only the sad exits of Yannick and Ricky got me up to that placing.  I live to fight another day.  Smiley
