Season 39 – 1968 EARLY – Round 5 –  Rouen

Welcome to the first full season of the 1968 Early Mod – when racing cars evolved to grow wings. We will be using a selection of tracks from the original 1968 season. For each race drivers will be able to select from a group of 4 cars that have relatively similar performance levels.

There is no handicapping.

For the fifth round we start with the French Grand Prix at Rouen. The 1968 rcae was won by Jackie Ickx in the Ferrari. Pole position was claimed by Jochen Rindt in the Brabham with a time of 1m56.1s.

The car set is Group IV. Drivers are requested to select a different chassis to the one they drove in Round 1 at Kyalami.

BRM P261 V12      BT20
Brabham BT24        BT23B

Full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please read the season 39 general rules on the championship standings page.

Please read the specific rules for 68 series on the 1968 Early championship standings page.

Where is everybody? Have I misinterpreted the time and date?

edit : I misinterpreted. I guess the UK already changed the clocks?

You know that some people are different
Now ain't that a crying shame
Now wouldn't it be a real drag if we were all the same

A little early to be throwing up blocking lines don't you think, Dave?  Smarten up, will you?  Sad

Schoolboy error by me. I of all people should have read the rules!!! I'd already used the BRM in round 1 so I have to be DQ'ed. By the time I had realised (well been prompted by others, thanks gents, I should had read the chat earlier) it was too late to select a different car. I started from the pit lane and did a few laps but I dropped out before I interfered with the race too much. Pity my pace was good enough to have been involved in the mid pack battle which was shaping up to be a great race from where I was watching.

An even more Schoolboy error. I didn't realise there were two BRM's. I did some practice with the other one at 1,59's  which felt OK. When I joined the server I couldn't find my set-up. After a few minutes I realised what an idiot I had been & spent qualifying trying to set up the car so it actually steered into corners, instead of wallowing around like a boat. I lasted until the leaders caught up with me about half race distance & decided that my poor sailing skills meant the P261 wasn't worth the effort of finishing.

Was a regular race for me, i escaped the hairpin bagarre on L1 and i was in 5th Place, then Dave crashed with me, was avoidable as i was already turning and well ahead, but this did not change really my race as i couldn't keep pace of the front. I had a good fight with fulvio and bagrupp but Fulvio was way faster than me.
9th place for 3 times in a row but this time no mistake and i'm happy, i was Simply slow.

Thank you all for this season, the grid Is always almost full and the race are always close! Congratulations to the podium Grin

Fun race. I'm not the quickest around here but it was fun battling with Angex and Fulvio for a few laps. The 68s are proving to be a lot of fun online and it's great to see such a full grid.

Sorry Bastian to have brought you with me before hairpin, but I reacted to your rejoining and couldn't keep it straight rejoining myself. We both had to reset and lost a lot of positions. The backup was interesting as said Giovanni and Pete  Smiley

The only things I have modified in default setup was 1 on Diff Lock to have a less reacting car to lift and turn and 56% on brake ratio. I had tested BRM too with same modify.  I have found that the brakes are very sensitive and you have to brake gently to keep the car straight. Hope it helps.

So it looks like when following the rules I can some times challenge for the top step of the podium. Congrats to the Admins!

Greg was so fast and mistake free, though mid he was victim of the usual disrespect moves from our aliens, that by the way, they keep pulling in the first lap. death
That didn't slow Greg down and soon he caught me and ran away. Congrats! As you asked me after the race, you were bleeping a bit but that was fine, as we should keep a safe distance to the car in front anyway, and when you got the chance, you made a flawless and safe overtake. I checked the server replay and I was pretty solid all the time so, go figure. surrender
