Season 39 – 1955 GP - WORKS – Round 5 – Dundrod

The fifth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Dundrod in Northern Ireland. The Dundrod Circuit was first used in 1950 for the RAC Tourist Trophy Sports Car race and for the Formula One (non-championship) Ulster Trophy. The Sports Cars raced again in 1951 through to 1955 and the Formula 1 cars from 1951 through to 1953. The circuit comprised public roads closed for racing including a section of the B38 Hannahstown Road between Glenavy and Hannahstown, a section of the B101 Leathemstown Road from Leathemstown Corner to Dundrod and a section of the B153 Quarterland/Tornagrough Road from Cochranstown to the road junction of the B38 Upper Springsfield Road/Hannahstown Road at the Lindsay Hairpin. The last car race held on the Dundrod Circuit was the 1955 RAC Tourist Trophy race in which sadly there were 3 fatalities. The narrow, high-speed nature of the circuit, meant it was just too dangerous and since then it has only been used for motorcycle racing.

For this race we will use the 1955 layout which includes the Leathemstown Bridge section.

Confused am I.

It might just be a cut and paste issue but if this is a different track layout to last season, why does it still say "For this race we will use the 1955 layout which includes the Leathemstown Bridge section."?  I thought that that was the section that is missing in the 1955 version.

And how come the lap records are the same as the 1950 version?

The 1950 and 1955 versions are the same track. It is just that the 1955 version has better graphics and is slightly more realistic. The Dundrod 1965 version doesn't have the Leathamstown bridge section.

The lap times will be slightly different, to be honest I don't know which is quicker. For tracks this close we tend not to have separate entries in the database (e.g. Monza (papy) and Monza 67). I'd have to ask Dave Gymer if he thinks the differences are sufficient to warrant a separate entry in the SRou Database.

Oh dear!

The livestock look better but he has shifted all the spectators about and I haven't a clue where my braking points have gone to!

The track Is stunning, compared to the 50 versione i think Is a tad narrower, but the flow is Amazing. I'm a bit worried about a couple of GPL crash i had. Both time i was spinning After a mistake, seems that everytime the game has to load the scenery in  a situation where the nose of the car is not pointing to the track ,can cause trouble.

I think that the track is a slightly different shape than the 1950 version, particularly on the approach to the bridge.

@ Giovanni  Simple, just don't crash!   Grin

I experienced the same CTD on line. Off line I just keep getting stuck in the hedges  laugh

This 55 Dundrod is unforgiving, but when you get the flow and hit your apexes, it is awesome, and then at the Lindsey hairpin you never know how the brakes are gong to work. What a rush!

I did not have the 1955 Dundrod version, so I have just downloaded, installed and  tried a lap to see the differences.

I was mightily impressed with the graphics and the "feel" of hurtling through the Irish Countryside, and as Clive L says there are differences that have lost my braking markers too. But, I have had 3 CTD's that occurred whenever I had an actual crash in the car???

Is this a possible glitch with this track version?

I have checked that the Antifreeze patch is operational, but these are not  FREEZEs, they are complete, and instant, Crash to Desktops.  Undecided

I am going back to try a few more laps offline and will report my findings............... detective

On line I did manage to provoke one CTD by spinning the car and clouting the barrier after passing the chequered flag for the end of qually.  Note to self not to do that on Sunday.

Before that, I had got stuck in the hedge a few times and also brought myself to a complete stand still by running in to the end of the bridge parapet.  None of these experiences caused the game a problem.

I did notice that the Lag Bar(at least, that's what I think it is) was rather high a lot of the time.

I'm only briefly in the Works area to say that I downloaded the (very appealing!) track recently & put in a couple of laps.
Yes, I flattened a few hedges,  but I also had a crash to desktop.

I'd be lucky to reach the scoring % but hopefully CTD is not going to be a problem here.

If everyone is experiencing CTD's why not switch to the classic Dundrod 50?

Look at this thread

http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=14111

and this one:

http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=14137

Seems that this track had some issues in his first version, and so Jim released a 1.1 version. However it's evident that using this track, even uptaded, with 1955 cars can cause sometimes issues.

I tried to use the " simplified grass" version, and despite i was running steady and stable 60 fps i had another CTD at wheelie's Undecided

I think that, CTDs aside, I actually prefer the 55 version.
