Season 39 -  – 1967 F2 - Donington

                                          AMS RACE

Donington is one of the classic British race venues for cars and bikes. Over the years it has hosted all of the classic races from early GPs to more recent Touring cars and Superbikes. The elevation changes and mixture of fast sweeping curves and tighter sections promotes fast and furious racing with a couple of good passing opportunities.

Motor Racing has it's up's and downs.  Mine came fast and furious at Donington. Shocked

Donned a setup which was set to serve me up last on the grid, and needed furious fixing.  Then hit by a huge barrage in the final 5 minutes - never seen so much chat - suggest the no chat rule be officially abandoned at Season's end.  Gained one spot.

Soon discovered my time wasn't wasted,  Progressed forward in a short space of time.  All very competitive.  Took the lead - lost the lead.  Setup still not perfect - driver in error - wheels out of round - perhaps a combination of all three.  Undecided

As is usual here, the lead changed hands and feet several times.  Sad to see Dave throw his race away so early on, but everyone else involved.  3rd time passing David R. my setup hit the flaw when some oversteer snapped, on braking.  My apologies for the bump.

Soldiered on to regain 2nd for the 3rd time, to discover a Cooper had sneaked past somewhere.  How did that happen?  Outnumbered by David's.  boat

Martin, sorry for the chat but we discussed about the laps number. Was 29, should have been 39.
So fuel amount should be recalculated.
I thought session would have been restarted.

I agree chat could be awkward ...but to be rearended during the race is not pleasant too !

Only 6 of us (and for a time, it looked like only 4!)  but there did seem to be more cars than that out on track.
Probably due to the number of position changes.

Surprised myself with a good grid position, then threw that away around turn1.
Had a couple of spins even trying to get back on track, losing even more time. Was sure I'd not see anyone for the rest of the event unless "things" happened.

Without the tow, I thought the Cooper would be a lost cause.  Maybe that fired me up & with the benefit of a lot of mishaps ahead, was able to come back through the field.   Not sure what happened to Philippe, but unlucky poleman.

This track is new for me, but was particularly enjoyable with the F2 cars.

Re: the laps, once I'd seen it had been mentioned in chat it was too late to look into it.
I'd apologised at the time, thinking I may have written it down incorrectly when creating my event scribble sheet.
However, I take that back!  Grin

The race event pages for Ams & Pros state 29laps; and was the completed race distance.
However, from looking (afterwards) at the F2 registration page - that does mention 39laps.

Nevermind,  I'm happy with the 29 laps!

Agree with Dave and expected 29.  Checked remaining  fuel at race end - often miss much of post race chat.  Pre-race, I lost count at 20 chat entries, while trying to improve.  If chat is a plus, let's make it Ok.

During the race, you were the only car I saw blocking an overtake, David.  With a faster car behind you, you add risk.  I swerved, hit the inside grass, then the side of your car.

When ? what lap ?
I look at the entire replay and I can't see any voluntary blockade from me.

A profesional driver would move all the way to the inside, to block a pass, although this costs both drivers some time.  You used the centre line, which allowed me to squeeze past near the race start.
