Had loads on this last few days, so had done no practise at all. Then, due to having a boiler issue, I had a plumber around until nearly 8pm, so was lucky just to get in the race.
Loaded the setup from the Nords event earlier in the year, not perfect it seemed, but good enough to get to he end I hoped! Only had time for one look at a lap, realised I knew at least half the track which came as a massive relief to be honest, but starting from the back was a good option given my lack of track knowledge in the early part of the lap.
Got away OK, and was involved in a great race with Suti, Fulvio, Dan, Chris and Paddler in the early running, but then fell back after a little bit of contact. Wasn't sure, but felt I wasn't getting the best throttle response last night, so need to look at that. Had some contact with Paddler at one of the chicanes and had to wait, which left me dead last by a long way, but it also gave me the chance to find some rhythm on the track by myself. This meant I was able to close in on the guys ahead, the gap opened again when I had the odd moment here or there, but as the car got a little lighter I was able to catch up and get involved in some racing. The Alfa was a good chunk faster than the Escort on the straight, which was interesting at times.
Managed to do part of the track twice on one lap, as I half span and ended up going down the hill back onto the track facing the wrong way, waving at Chris and Fulvio as they went back past me for the 3rd time at least
, all good fun.
Chased hard, nearly caught Fulvio but he had enough in hand, so ended up 5th. Found some pace by the end of the race, but nowhere near Geoffers who really did pull some time out of that Mini by the looks of it, cracking lap.
Grats to Matt on a worthy win, and to the rest of the podium peeps. Unlucky to the various guys that fell out of the race.
