Season 39 – 1967 F1 WORKS – Round 7 – ROAD AMERICA 71

Round 7 of the S39 1967 F1 Works Series will be at Road America in the USA.
The track covers 640 acres (2.6 km2) within Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine. It is near the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive and has hosted races since September 1955. It currently hosts over 400 events a year. Road America has not been modified and retains its original configuration of 4.048 miles (6.515 km) in length and consisting of 14 turns. The track features many elevation changes, along with a long front stretch where speeds approaching 200 mph (320 km/h) may be reached. One of the best known features of this course is a demanding right hand turn known as "the kink." Road America's open seating allows spectators to venture throughout the grounds. Grandstands are available in several locations, as well as permanent hillside seating where crowds of more than 150,000 can be accommodated.

I managed to join in the last 5 minutes, enough for one fast qualy lap.

I figured I'd be warping a lot so the plan was just to keep my place at the start and try not to be in the way of anyone, manage engine and fuel. The top five kept at close distance, Tristan blew his engine probably and when Bob and Jonny in front had their off track excursions I could pick up places. In the last few laps I guess Uli was just managing his lead and I could close the distance a little but I had nothing left. Good one clap

Sorry about the latency Leo. The server is the same as usual so I can only assume it was heavy internet traffic? Anyway it didn't stop you posting a great result, P2 in this company is a performance to be proud of  clap

Uli was perfect, I would have to risk it and when I was faster the tire overheated and I did 360 rounds 3 times, it annihilated my race and real chances in the championship.
Now Uli is 1 cm from the cup!!!

  Congrats podium!!!!

THX for your congratulations Smiley
I was very well-prepared (not like a privateer) even surprised with my 6th pole in a row and managing this time a good start. Nevertheless I had a hard race against this bloody Lotus gang! Wink Lotus‘ where ever I looked – luckily in my mirrors! It was not easy to hold concentration, even I find a nice flow over laps. My constant (consistency 0,442!) and secure ride, with making nearly non mistake and at the end more than 8 litres left, was the result of a very fine, extraordinary setup that I could test in my last stint in practice. So I had only one lap with a hot left front wheel but never with my left rear wheel – you never stop learning with GPL! Smiley
THX to all overlapped, for managing an excellent job!
Congratulations Leo and Bab, big hand to you, fine to be with you both on podium. Smiley
THX to our admins for perfect organization.
Now I am looking forward to Le Mans Bugatti to make a dream come true …

Reasonably pleased with my race last night, a few mistakes but thankfully less than normal  Wink.  I was quicker than I expected to be, in practice I was in the 16s then once I managed to string a lap together I was amazed to clock a lap in the 14s in qualifying, although in a Lotus I guess it is possible.  Cracking lap in the Brab Uli, I'd be interested in that set-up  Tongue, although the skills would still be wanting.  I had big ideas of doing a ton of praccy and really sorting my lines, which didn't really materialize due real life demands!

Great drive by Leo too, despite his easy start he was clearly faster than me and closed relentlessly until I out-braked myself down the hill to the 3rd? turn, giving him an easy pass, he then pulled away effortlessly though!  During the closing laps I was monitoring the gap to Jonny, tough luck with your own off, pleased you didn't catch me!

Thanks for the racing, see you in Le Mans, one of my least favourite circuits!

Bob
