Time of Day Setting: 14:00

Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk Wednesday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None.

Hi All,

Many thanks to Tony and others. Im back up n running now.  tried to join a race last night but just had a few issues. no matter what i couldnt get online.
long story short i have heard of all the issues getting online and i read up plenty here.

i used my original reg details but changed my user and password now all seems ok.    it logs me on as my usual name as per my .PLR file so i think alls ok.

i recently rebuilt my PC and am now running win 10. had all the usual stuff to do but happy now.... so a new super Race PC is in the wings.

sorry for waffling on. but it took 3 rebuilds of GTL. i use a standalone one for racing on UKGTL. only issue I had was that the first build with all the files Tony kindly sent me links to for this new season kept craching the PC. first build saw me in the UKGPL 300SL Merc and no matter what i tried i could not use any other car..  2nd full rebuild kept crashing back to desktop.

I since have been adding the mods bit by bit and doing backuos and testing as i go.

I think i have narrowed the issue down to the UKGTL Cars pack for the GTC-TC-76 mod. these are the Stratos, Pantera BM etc.

tracks are fine.  but whenever i load the cars, they load fine and i can start the game. i can purchase the cars too, but i think the issue is they dont show in the dealers showroom. so somethings missing. !!

when i select one of the cars then try to race.. crash.

again, sorry to waffle . but any ideas chaps?

p.s. will post these things in the general forums if i should.. just tell me off if thats the case.

want to sort it as Im getting to like these cars more and more.  and im missing racing..

Hi Tony.

will do . just to say im testing at present..

forget what i said above in my previous post.

1957 Euro Road Racing
1965 BSCC
Memorial Trophy

all installed and working.

and the  1976 Group 5's that i thought had issues all now working.     just tried the Porsche 934. wow.  i can see you included the sound pack. are they non original sounds as the car sounds awesome.

ok. will do a backup and then install the other season 22 mods and report back.  how is the easiest way to generate a trace file.. im still learning about GTL believe it or not.

Actually it isnt. I didnt know how to do a trace file. if memory serves me correct its an extra switch to the shortcut....   which having googled I now have.

so I can get these now. they are generated everytime i start the game ? correct?

i did think what could they do if the game keeps crashing, DOH! ... but makes sense now thanks.

thanks for the pointers. Everything is now fine and i am certain its the carset for the 1987 WTCC mod.  I will do another backup and install the tracks.  test and then the cars again. everthing else is fine.

OK Boys...  Tony has fixed my install. Im ready to rock n roll ( at the back, of course)

one on topic question, dio i need to choose or be given a class to race in. Or can I choose from all groups?  and then only use them as per the Car restriction list?

Yes

Oh BTW, someone else new to GTL pointed out to me that it wasn't entirely clear which cars were mods and which were standard GTL content.

So, the Lotus Cortina, Ford Mustang and Mini Cooper are standard. The Ford Anglia and Mini 970 are mods.

Hi guys,

Is there any references or good websites regarding setups for GTL cars.

Initially  I really only need the basics. I can see from the race notice above how many laps each race is so I can I guess easily sort out the fuel. I'm taking the Mustangvi think or the Cortina.

But unlike GPL. I cant seem to find out things like optimum tyre pressure etc.

Another question is, when I makes setup, do I then stick with whatever I dialed in on the setup pages and then ignore the 3 sliders in the pit screen. Or do I use them to fine tune what I've already created as a setup. ??

Cheers Paul.

I'm more worried about the next race.. probably had some questions re pitstops. But Tony's recent post should have clarified that for me.

You really know how to depress a guy Tony  Sad Sad .
So, the 1275 Cooper S is standard GTL??!! and some green skinned, tentacle waving alien has recorded a 1:25 laptime?Huh?? eek eek eek eek eek

I did a few test laps last night and on a kamikaze lap where the gas pedal rarely lost contact with the floor, I did not get below 1:31 secs!!
If I assume that I was reaching the same max velocity on all of the straight(ish) sections, Madgewick was taken flat in 4th with a fractional lift on entry. Lavant is a downshift and flat in 3rd and likewise for Woodcote.   Then I am losing 6 secs through St Mary's and the chicane???
St Mary's was last of the late braker's at the 50mtr board, d/shift to 3rd, nail the gas , 2 wheels across the grass at the apex and just clip the outside grass without lifting. The chicane was again suicidal late tap on the brakes after taking Woodcote flat in 3rd. D/shift to 2nd and flick the car in as the weight transfers forward then stand on the gas to exit with 2 wheels running on the raised kerb.

So just where the heck is there another 6 secs?Huh? I could accept that a Mini Master like Geoffers would find 1 or 2 secs by carrying fractionally more speed through St Mary's and through the chicane but 6 secs on a lap of 85secs is getting towards 7-8%% ?? faster in the same car, with just two places where the engine is not at max revs?
I think that I am getting too old for this.  wheelchair wheelchair or it proves that front wheel drive is the devil's spawn!!

I'm more worried about the next race.. probably had some questions re pitstops. But Tony's recent post should have clarified that for me.

Someone (I think maybe Clive?) did a setup guide but I have no idea where to find it. And many years ago a driver called Legzy also did one. Again no idea where to find that either.

GTL's in game fuel calculations are often way off the mark especially with mod tracks. It's better with the standard tracks that came with it. XD gives a much more precise fuel estimate and I think everyone uses that.

Ignore the sliders full stop. They are intended for first time sim racers and I doubt anyone uses them here.

There are two setup systems. One is a one page screen (probably what you have now) and an advanced two page setup.

For XD https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=19141.msg347241#msg347241

For advanced setup https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=14422.msg261889#msg261889

You can go online to search for other drivers saved setups but it's potluck as to whether you find a good one or one that suits your driving style etc.

When your on the screen that shows the sliders, click the spanner symbol. Then click the Online files symbol. Click the Login button. Scroll through the online folder to find Goodwood. Scroll through the online files till you see something useful. Click on the file and select download. You should now find the file in your files folder.

Hope this helps. I will send you my Cortina and Mustang setups (their called .svm files). Once received copy into UserData/yourname/Settings/Goodwood. Also if you browse your car make folder there should be some .svm files already created for some of the standard tracks. You can try these out and modify them for other circuits.

I think that Geoffers posted a downloadable quick reference guide for GTL setups a while ago and I still have a print out of that alongside my rig. But I cannot find the original post or link.

Hristo did a short piece on diffs here:-  https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=25862.0

TBH Paul I have found it much better to dig out an online setup that feels comfortable and then tweak it to your liking ( remember to save the result with a recognisable name in a FAVOURITES folder for future use ). Several of the aliens in these part will often post their setups prior to a race and although I cannot drive them at anywhere near the pace that they extract it is often a good place to start your own development. Usually I find that I have to make the diffs less aggressive to accommodate my un-educated right foot.  Roll Eyes

Paul, posts 95 & 96 of this thread: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=23201.0  have some info on setups. Bear in mind that this a sim & not real life, so not everything works as it maybe should, but it gives a general idea of how to approach setting up the car.

Clive, ignore that 1.25 laptime, that was set with a 1310 Mini mod not the default car. Don't tell anyone else, but I am just in the 1.28s with the Mini.

As a mini-Mini Master, I don't think you can gain all that much with setup. I'm clueless about that and generally do rather well in Minis. I think it's just your driving style which is completely antithetical to Minis. Driving them correctly (fastly) is rather boring actually, a word no one has ever used to describe your style  Wink Grin One has to avoid ALL understeer and tightly hit every apex. The slightest departure from that can cost a full second in a single corner. Pedal to the metal full time doesn't work.

Having said that, I'll upload the Ati setup for the 1275S I used at Snetterton (if I can figure out how to; TBC). There are no better Mini setups than those Ati made.

Edit: Woot, that worked:
It's in the online folder Goodwood and it's called "Ati Mini Cooper 1275 mod"

Good luck!
