Season 39 – 1955 GP - WORKS – Round 8 – Silverstone
The eighth and final race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Silverstone in England. Silverstone is built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The track hosted the first F1 championship race in 1950. The British Grand Prix has been permanently held here since 1987. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track. The first two races were held on the runways themselves, with the 1949 International Trophy switching to the perimeter track. This arrangement was used for the 1950 and 1951 Grands Prix. In 1952 the start line was moved from the Farm Straight to the straight between Woodcote and Copse, and this layout remained largely unaltered for the following 35 years. The 1954 British Grand Prix was held at Silverstone and was won by Juan Manuel Fangio in a Mercedes M196 2.5 L8. Fangio raised Silverstone's lap record, breaking the 100 mph barrier with a lap of 100.35 mph. After an outing at Aintree in 1955, the British Grand Prix returned to Silverstone in 1956 when Fangio won again, this time in a Ferrari. Since 1975 the track has been extensively remodelled. Tonight we will be using the 1967 layout.

Something strange going on with the server test on UKGPL05.

iGOR showed 22 min of qually left but the server was just mutating to the race?

UPDATE: I think that it is due to the fact that there are two GPLs running on the server.  The one with the port address added and another without but both with the same IP address.  iGOR is not showing the port address for the practice server.

Just noticed this post. The server is running OK so I assume iGOR has settled down?

I updated my post Phil.
I've got both servers running behind the same router. I just use different ports and it all seems to work OK but it looks like iGOR gets a bit confused.

That looked like a pretty clean race at the front so it looks like Yannick has just pipped Clive to the title. Another case where a Dutchman has beaten a 7 times champion! Unlucky Clive your run of six 55GP titles had to come to an end some day. I hope you plan to return next season and fight to get your title back. Congratulations Yannick, it looks like this is your 4th championship this season, great driving, well done.

I had a great race with JonnyO, Enrique and Giovanni. It looked like I was set to finish in 4th place but with 1 1/2 laps to go my engine started smoking and missing badly. I limped round to finish the race distance but I lost 4 places in the process. I really need to learn to keep the revs down in these machines Roll Eyes

That was a great season. I had ups and downs but surprised I was always fighting at the front, 4 poles and one victory.

After the two DNFs last races I wanted to finish strong. With Clive behind me in the grid I didn't want to get in the way of the championship fight. I started strong and with Yan draft we could pull away from the second group. Soon there were some 10 second from the intense fight for third position and Yannick is in another league in first, so I just controlled the gap to Clive to the checkered flag.

Thanks Phil and other admins for putting this together and see you next year  thumbup1

First of all, thanks for letting me participate this season in this mod, excellent management and wonderful teammates on the track, all very respectful, thank you very much phill and colleagues from UKGPL. Smiley
a big applause to yannik for his title, he is an unbeatable and very strong pilot, congratulations friend. Wink
Clive made a strong fight with him too but for very few points he could not win the champ, but he remained the best of us who live on this planet hehehe and between leo and I we tied in points, and with that 4 position that I have to do, I was very happy, I wanted to be in the top 5 and I succeeded.
Regarding the race, 3 fairly impassable errors on my part, relegated me to 7th position and little by little I was recovering.
Giovanni apologizes for the friction I had with you, but I don't think you saw me that I was next to you and you entered the curve as if you were alone, actually, when I didn't see you through the mirrors I told myself "something happened" because I didn't feel never a hit, and seeing the replay I saw that there was a bit of lag in the incident, I am very sorry that you could not continue the race friend, that made me feel bad, anyway I reiterate my apology. Cry
Bad luck for you too phill, you took advantage of 2 stupid mistakes of mine and you were able to recover your 4 position but I saw that with 1 lap and a half left your engine failed, what bad luck man, I'm very sorry about that too.
I had a lot of fun gentlemen, great season and already count on me for the next one in mod 55, I really like those cars.
thank you I wish you a merry christmas and a great new year Wink

Congratulations Yannick for the Championship and thank you every one for participating. I expected more from this season and i'm not satisfied at all. The First part of the champ was a nightmare but i recovered on the second half even if i trew away a good chanche for a victory at Dundrod. Congratulations also to Leo, you were my benchmark this season as we both were promoted from  privateers. If was not for two DNF i'm sure you could compete for the crown, i'll practice more for next season to match your pace Wink.

About the last race, was fun, really, close and challenging.
Enrique, from my side, i was aware of you being on the inside and i left what i think was enought space, but i was also defending and could not disappear laugh. However no fault from you or from me, i can see from the replay that there was a massive lag and theese things happen , It's GPL racing!

Cheers Phil and thanks for the series.

My season came unravelled at Monza so I'm surprised that I was even in the running.

I had to give best to the youngsters on this occasion.

After qually it was obvious that I needed a lot of luck or perhaps help from Michael Masi!

I was behind Enrique at the beginning and after passing him at Stowe, my brakes were not in the best of health, which caused me to make a few errors.
This enabled Giovanni (I think) to pass me and by the time that I was clear of the chasing pack, Leo was about twelve seconds up the road.  And there he stayed.

Congratulations to Yannick for the race win and the championship and grats too to Leo for nailing second in the race.
That means that I have finished as runner up to Yannick in two championships this season(UKGPL and GPLRACER) but I really didn't drive well enough to warrant any better. surrender

Hope that you all have a great Christmas and New Year.   thumbup1
