Season 39 – 1955 GP - PRIVATEERS – Round 8 – Silverstone
The eighth and final race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Silverstone in England. Silverstone is built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The track hosted the first F1 championship race in 1950. The British Grand Prix has been permanently held here since 1987. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track. The first two races were held on the runways themselves, with the 1949 International Trophy switching to the perimeter track. This arrangement was used for the 1950 and 1951 Grands Prix. In 1952 the start line was moved from the Farm Straight to the straight between Woodcote and Copse, and this layout remained largely unaltered for the following 35 years. The 1954 British Grand Prix was held at Silverstone and was won by Juan Manuel Fangio in a Mercedes M196 2.5 L8. Fangio raised Silverstone's lap record, breaking the 100 mph barrier with a lap of 100.35 mph. After an outing at Aintree in 1955, the British Grand Prix returned to Silverstone in 1956 when Fangio won again, this time in a Ferrari. Since 1975 the track has been extensively remodelled. Tonight we will be using the 1967 layout.

Spoiler alert!

I know the results are not up yet, but congrats Pete!
Don't know what happened at the start,  but I found myself there & just ran as much as I could.

I knew I'd see you later Smiley

Cheers,
Dave.

Brilliant series and I'm glad to have made it to end of the last race without popping the engine. I kept it all below 8000 RPM. Thanks to Dave and Fran for keeping up the pressure. Bad luck with your camshaft, Fran. It's happened to me too many times this season.

I was pleased with pole but made a TERRIBLE start. My Rolling-Starts are quicker. Something to practise over the Christmas break.

See you all on the track soon.

Grats to Peter for the championship win , next season we will have to make you tow a sleigh to even things up  Grin

I also made a hash of the start but an even bigger one when I ran out of brakes and hit the dirt . I realised too late that I was running the de fault set up for the race , a silly error .

Really enjoyed this mod and looking forward to the next seasons bash  Grin
