Championship standings HERE

Grid/server capacity: 22

Car/Track download available by pm to WT

Track: Silverstone GP (1988)

Car restrictions: Check your car allowance here

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins) Drivers must not leave qualifying to change car make.
Race: 20:40 (32 laps)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: 2x
Fuel consumption: 2x
Pit stops required: YES

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Drivers must complete over 75% of the published race distance in order to score points.

Hi All.

hope the race went well. I think i did something wrong, was in chat. hit the back button and was disqualified ??  was that my fault?  Huh

not all bad though. finally got my FPS solid at 60fps at last tonight. could go more but it always stutters. now its a smooth as butter.  Smiley

also the BMW has more setup options than normal. was slowly dialling in a setup that was becoming more and more driveable.  lees understeer, more rotation, better brake balance etc, etc.  was going to enjoy tonight more than normal i think. I could actully throw the car at the corner without running straight on and even get very easy to control power slides on exit..  so much better.  Cool

until i hit the "Sod Orf'" button.  Cry

@ Paul, do you mean you have 2 pages of setup rather than 1?

If so I may have inadvertantly upgraded your install with the patch I gave you.

Yes. Got 2 pages for the setup menu. Is that incorrect for when we race.

I hadn't actually noticed as I have the 2 page setup menu in other GTL installs

But on many occasions I have been unable to make many changes at all.  Most recent was the Lotus 7s at Crystal Palace,  I wasn't able to even change the rear axle final drive ratio, let alone individual gears . Generally this seems to be the case. Very rarely seem to be able to to make changes.

Therefore I've been assuming I am running the default setups at all of our races Huh

You should be able to change the final drive. Changing individual gearing depends on the car.

Grats to Daz erling and Ziu

Quite surprised to be the only Toyota on the grid as a little sneaky research showed a few other drivers with Toyota drives in abundance?

You can never tell who will make a car swap right before the start of qualifying, but this time no-one switched and I was all alone  Undecided. The Toyota IS the slowest car and although it handles the corners very well, it just cannot compete with the horsepower of the others on the straight bits.

So, after the first lap I was just losing ground until the pitstops that the gas guzzlers had to make. I did just see two or three cars exiting the pits and then it was all very quiet until cars were lapping me again. I tried to stay off the racing line but some of you guys were closing the gap so fast that it was difficult to predict where the pass would happen  Shocked
I was more than a little miffed to get a SnG on my final lap after running out of road, definitely not corner cutting!, at the chicane ( hardly surprising as the only rubber in evidence on the front left tyre at that point was the valve!!).

I find it quite easy to make a tankful of fuel last beyond the race distance. in fact my readout indicated that I could have reached 33 laps comfortably and probably 34? Maybe I was slow because I was carrying too much gas??

Tough race.  Daz immediately buggered off to do his own thing, and my fight of course wasn't with him, but rather with Ziu.  We were very close through the entire first stint.  What I gained on the full-throttle bits, he would reclaim under braking and through the non-full-throttle curvy bits.

Late in the stint, a mistake on worn tyres saw me run wide onto the grass, giving Ziu a long awaited oppotunity to get past. My turn to chase him over a couple of laps, before he went for the pits at the end of L15.  Suprised me, as my Beemer testing had shown that I could do 16 laps on a full tank - only just, leaving me with a pit window of L16 and no alternatives. Apparently he was getting better mileage than me.

Pit myself at the end of L16, for tyres & fuel.  Must have been quicker through the pits, as I exited just in front of Ziu, and we could continue like in the first stint.  Difference now was that I could slowly stretch the gap - the effect of my lighter car perhaps?  I had started on a full fuel load, but only refilled partially, with enough to get to the finish.

Grats to Daz & Ziu, and to the class winners & podiums.

Installed a bit of a tweak to my home setup this week, Samsung G9 Odyssey monitor. Only got it all bolted onto the stand at about 11 o'clock Tuesday night, ran a replay fron GTL to make sure it worked, and all seemed OK, great.

Not so good come race day, went to cockpit and it all looked wrong. A bit of flapping later and I got it sorted, and managed a couple of practise laps to get my eye in, very different to what I had before!

Race went well, and as Erling said I did bugger off a bit after a bit of a tardy launch off the line. All was going swimmingly until the pitstops.....

The new monitor is 49 inches, and has gone onto a separate stand. I am at some point going to have a proper profile rig to match with it, been after one for years.....but at the moment it is just monitor-wheelstand-chair, which I hadn't figured out the pitfalls of. Entered the pits, realised I needed the keyboard, reached down for it as it was on the floor next to the chair, and managed to press a button in doing so. Game minimised, music library opened, slight panic set in. Now I needed the mouse as well, so had to grab that. In the meantime the car was at a halt and stalled as I had hit the brakes so as not to get a stop/go for speeding. Closed music library, opened game, drove to pit, hit the right buttons for fuel and tires, and then put keyboard and mouse back. Realised I wanted the pit limiter, so picked up the keyboard again, and then thought about the fuel I had selected, realised I had got the sums a bit wrong and it was likely to be tight, really tight.

Eventually got back on track after what felt like a mammoth stop, and the lead had been halved or so, but was still 13 seconds. Checked fuel over the next lap, and I was about half a lap short, so ran lower on revs for most of the stint just to save enough to get to the end. Job done.

Quite the setup Daz; maybe we can't complain about being beaten all the time, when this is what we're up against  Smiley

The widescreen stretching would drive me bonkers though

Of course, GTL being that bit older is a bit odd with the widescreen, yes. That is mainly in the menu though, in car does seem to sort itself out quite well once the fov etc are sorted.
