Hello everyone,

Here you can find the GPL World Masters 2021 planning/discussion thread: http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=14455&st=40
At this point in time, 28 votes have already been left on the poll: http://srmz.net/index.php?s=94101a5987f8a6bef349dc8ceaa79fbc&showtopic=14463

As some of you know, R4E organized a GPL World Masters event at the end of 2019. He then opened a thread on SRMZ to attract attention for the planned 2020 event, but seemingly not enough drivers were interested and so the 2020 edition never happened. Rookie has not said anything about an event this year yet, and so I thought I would take matters into my own hands and start planning.

The idea behind this event is to get the GPL community together for a high-quality racing event where drivers are surrounded by as many racing colleagues on similar skill level as possible. A lot of drivers are exclusive to leagues and time zones and never race each other, so this would be a good opportunity for everyone to come together and have a great time on track.

In the past 2 years, Rookie has gone by a list which ranks the drivers by success in GPL online events throughout the year. This year however, I thought the event could be open to anybody interested. By not going off a list, it is likely that more than 19 drivers which can only fit on a server would be interested, and therefore I thought of doing a big event with multiple simultaneously running races, with drivers being categorized with their servers according to their pace. In order to be able to rank everybody's pace, I thought of introducing a qualification system where drivers can send in their PB's several weeks in advance before the event so that the 19 fastest drivers end up in race 1, the next 19 fastest drivers in race 2 and so on.

HIES can provide their server for that purpose, meaning that if you want to participate in the event, you can just set lap times on the pre-quali server once the server is up and running. Your best lap time will then be collected by the server and put up on a leaderboard (which can be found under this link once the server is up and running: http://f1historicesports.com/index.html).

That is the idea so far. We have not yet made all final decisions yet, so please feel free to leave your votes in the poll thread above. The more interested drivers vote, the better the overall interest is represented.

Best regards

Lasse

A total of 26 drivers have set a lap time so far. At this rate, we will have (at least) two servers on race day! If you are interested in joining this interleague GPL party, set a lap time on the HIES VROC server and it will appear on the leaderboard. Qualification is not a must, you can also just show up on race day. In that case you will be put at the bottom of the leaderboard and be distributed to a server accordingly.

You can protest on-track behaviour of other drivers until 48h after the end of the event. To launch a protest, send a formless message to me or Dag Johnsen on this forum, via e-mail ([email protected]) or anywhere else via PM. Possible penalties are those listed on the HIES website under regulations. This does not include the "disconnects and freezes" section.
