Season 40 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 1 – Privateers - Oakes Field
This race announcement is for the PRIVATEERS.
The first race in the 1955 Grand Prix series sees us taking a boat to Nassau in the Bahamas. The first Nassau Trophy Road Races meeting for Sports Cars was held in 1954 on the Windsor Field Course. For 1957, the meeting was moved to another airfield location, the 5 mile Oakes Course, which was closer to the main population areas on the island. The new course, despite being quite bumpy in places, was relatively well-received, though there were a number of close shaves near the pits as it was too close to the racing line. To combat this, the race direction of the track was changed to clockwise in 1958. The circuit was also shortened to 4.5 miles by cutting out the original Blackbeard's Bend and Ecky's Twist, whilst a new left-right-left corner combination was built to connect the Sassoon Straight and Bethell's Pass, cutting out the tight hairpin which had previously taken the cars off the runway. Due to much needed track repairs and the lack of additional funding by the Bahamian government, as well as competition from more races running in December, the event was discontinued after the 1966 meeting. It is the clockwise 4.5 mile Oakes Course that we will be using for tonight's race.

I've sorted the registered drivers into Works and Privateers based on previous results. As Privateers Champion, Pete Bennett moves up to the Works. There is an even split of 14 Works drivers and 13 Privateer drivers. If anyone thinks they are in the wrong group please send me a PM.

Congrats Fran.
Well, I was having my best 55 drive in a long time.. then touched the kerb and ended up behind the fence. No chance after that.. lol.
The sand here is extremely sticky.
But 23 points are better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Great race, Francesco. Congrats On one of my favourite track, I was doing my best to follow you and to put a big pressure but you made no mistake at all. I made only one mistake, it costs me around 4 seconds but even without this error I would not have been able to overtake you.

Couldn't get into this track ,4 0r 5 corners are a challenge and feel great if you can get them right , but as most of the corners are featureless I found it impossible to remember which one was which and just where i was on the track . I made things worse by changing the diff ratio and ARB's for the race hoping for better exit speed but made the car much too sensetave to throttle response , if there were points awarded for spinners i would have been champion already Grats to Fran and the runners up looks like you all had a fun race

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet. For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement). The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error. Driver | Tokens | Status | Albert Hallu | 22 | Privateer | Bernie | 18 | Privateer | covisi2016 | 20 | Privateer | dave curtis | 18 | Privateer | Dulima | 30 | Privateer | francesco | 18 | Privateer | Gareth | 30 | Privateer | JPettet | 20 | Privateer | PaulV | 20 | Privateer | Philippe Girard | 20 | Privateer | R_Jungle | 20 | Privateer | Rainier | 18 | Privateer | Ricardo Valim da Silva | 30 | Privateer |
